Most efficient way to get established on '07 server?

Hi all,

I did double check the posting guidelines and don't think I'm breaking any by asking this here, but as a player who just got back into runescape after quitting in early 2009 I was wondering how to get started if my long term goal was to max smithing and quests on the 2007 server?

As far as I'm aware, a nice way to start is to get farming started right away, then train combat to 30ish in everything and start using slayer to train combat and eventually make money? Are there any particularly useful quests to get done right away? Maybe I should just play the current game...

Quests are definitely a good way to go for early levels.

Look at: Witch Potion, Restless Ghost, Cook's Assistant, Rune Mysteries etc. for quick and easy quests. They require a bit of travelling in the general F2P area.

Also do: Doric's Quest (gets you level 10 mining) - requires 2 iron, 4 copper and 6 clay.

The Knight's Sword (gets you level 27? smithing) - requires 10 mining and an iron bar.

Waterfall Quest, Vampire Slayer, Demon Slayer, Holy Grail - combat xp.

Here are some of the quests I did to help start my 2007 journey:

Rune Mysteries (for Runecrafting)

Druidic Ritual (for Herblore)

Doric's Quest (Mining xp)

The Knight's Sword (Smithing xp)

Waterfall Quest (was able to get me from 5 Attack/Strength to 30, be warned as there are high leveled aggressive monsters)

Fishing Contest (for access to Kandarin without wolves or Karamja boat fees)

Another bit of advice I have is to get Thieving up a bit and start stealing cakes from the Ardougne stall. They make for a great lower-leveled food.

If you want to be rich I'd recommend getting 55 slayer and then doing barrows constantly. Early sets of dharoks are going to be worth a ton, even the worse drops like torags still have the best armour stats in the 07 game.

The main problem with this is that other players won't have things valuable enough to trade with your valuable barrows gear! Mwuahaha!
