obsidian armour doubt

why does it say you need 80 defence to use it on the defence skill list when its a lvl 60 armour?

ive read that it is compared to nex's armour but i dont see how.

also,I recently read that the negative bonuses when worn outside have ceased to exist now,is it true?

Obsidian armor is a bit strange, that's why. It and the quest both require 80 defence. However, the developer wanted to change it around a bit and finally did it with the most recent combat update.

The triple damage penalty has been removed, so it is an effective piece of hybrid armor to use anywhere (assuming you don't mind repairing it in time). To prevent it from devaluing nex sets, as obsidian is essentially free, the stats were lowered to that of lvl 60 gear.

oh i see- is it worthwile to use it on the fight caves or should i stick to gano?

Don't bother with Obsidian armour, IMO. At least not the helm, top and legs.

Akrisae's set is Hybrid too, and has better stats all-around.

 

Unless I'm wrong and there's actually a difference between All and Hybrid. Does Obsidian armour give block chance? Last I tried, Akrisae didn't (everything remained at 0%.)

(Of course, if you haven't done RotM, then you couldn't use Akrisae.)

This update completely and utterly destroyed obsidian armor.

 

Which is ironic, in an effort to make obsidian armor more 'useful', they actually broke it to the point where even other T60 armor is better than Obsidian armor. Unless there are some behind the scenes things going on (which I am not surprised if there is, Hybrid armor is a PR disaster atm), hybrid armor, on their own (especially the "all" class armor, and yes, there seems to be a big difference between "All" and "hybrid" atm), is completely useless.

 

Coupled with the stats nerf of back to T60, Obsidian armor is now both useless for the function it was originally designed for (IE best armor VS obsidian creatures), and useless function it was supposed to encourage its use (IE outside).

 

TBH, I really don't think they should F around with Obsidian armor, that armor was designed for TzHaar creatures, so it should stay as the best armor in the game and useless elsewhere. It's not like Kiln is the hottest way to make money atm.

"Hybrid" means strong vs. two skills and weak vs. one. At least, that's how minigame hybrid armour worked.

"All" meant strong vs. all, but now it means medium vs. all, so it's basically meh.

(didnt want to create a new thread since its a theme related question,kinda)

 

ima try to do the fight klin now that i got my second fire cape. would obsidian be helpful here or should i stick with regular armour switching?

i would mage with gano and armadyl staff

melee with verac and chaotic

and range with karil,crystal bow probably since i doubt i'll manage to get a royal bow charged.

would this armour be effective in the waves? i dnt know how much they have changed.

 

also,is it worth it to use ss sometimes?i dont have 95 prayer so the otehr curses are out of hte list for now,but im about to get 92 prayer so..

Try and see if you can get Hand Cannon, it's better than Crystal bow for kiln (higher tier and the fact that nearly all ranged-weak creatures in kiln are weak to bolts, the Har-Aken magic tentacle being the only exception).

 

I'd probably try armor switching too, though I have no idea how that will work out since It has been too long since I did kiln, and frankingly I never did kiln without obsidian armor.

 

Soul Split is quite useful, and make sure you make good use of Restoration and constitution crystals.
