Will there ever be a RuneScape live-action movie?

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure I did make a thread like this in the past, but since I don't wanna bump up an ancient thread, I decided to make a new one.

Anyway, I think this thread does make for an interesting discussion. Do you think there will EVER be a RuneScape live-action movie?

Now the Warcraft movie was very good in my opinion, and it did make more than double its budget in the box office, so I think there is now a good possibility a RuneScape live-action movie can be successful.

What do you think? Do you think there ever will be one? I know that would be hard to do since there are trillions of things you can do since Gielnor is a huge open world, but I think it can work.

Will there ever be one? Maybe, I guess.

Can't really compare it to Warcraft, given that while RS is somewhat popular, it's also not nearly as popular as the Warcraft franchise is. That and it really wouldn't be a good use of whatever budget Jagex has right now, imo. People are already complaining about the microtransactions, do you think Jagex deciding to use those profits for making a movie out of the blue instead of investing it into the game would be well received? :P

That being said, it's still possible that some people could make a fan-made movie, it wouldn't have to come from Jagex directly. It would need to be non-profit, unless they'd buy permission from Jagex to produce and publish it or something. This also means it'd likely be low-budget, but you never know.

It wouldn't really be hard to find something to do for it though, there are -a lot- of fairly long quest lines in RS and any one of them could easily last for a full feature-length movie if not more.

Doubt it

but would you want one? I mean, WoW had plot holes and Assassin's Creed didn't really make sense.

Yeah you're right. I'd rather have a somewhat good RuneScape live-action movie than a bad one. Most video game movies are bad.

But I still would like to see the world of Gielnor being brought into live-action.

I also doubt it. The game isn't nearly as popular as Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft, etc. Also most game movies are terrible, and those are for games with actual a single story-line. RuneScape doesn't really have a single story-line, so I can only see it possibly if they try to make a movie off the books? And even then, the books are quite different from RS the game... there are horses in them for example lol.

I really can't see a movie coming from RuneScape anytime soon. If we are lucky, maybe a short anime/show like what Halo and Castlevania did...

What are you talking about? There are a lot of stories in RuneScape.

The majority of the quests in RuneScape are story-driven. There are also many series of quests that all share the same story.

I think that's his point actually - in other words, there are so many different stories and threads that it's hard to pick one, specific one fundamental to the game.

I don't know if it would ever happen (sponsored by Jagex), but maybe some fans or college students in a film-oriented major might try it sometime. You never know...

That's not a bad idea. You can make so many different stories, plot twist from it. However agree with  Arceus - might be too difficult to pick one :)
