assuming u can buy coal at 100 per :P

only place u can do that is in game, standing around trying to trade. Thats where the time = money question comes in. Would it be more profitable if u had spent that time mining/earning cash instead of buying coal to smith into plates to sell for money? :P

something u have to figure out urself.

Guest halifix

That's why people tend to buy coal in notes of 100 and whatnot.

It's pretty hard to find Horvik with a high price to sell steel plates at.

Ok, if I really wanted to smith just to lvl up, I would be mining iron (1 attempt and I hit) and mining iron, making every single emerald I found into a ring (which I can do). But the profits are way less, and also, people mass sell iron stuff to the stores.

I find that if I want money only, mining 50 coal would get me 10,000gp.

Mining and smithing 50 coal (plus 25 iron) would get me 3,400 gp (selling to General's).

Mining, smithing, and alchemizing 50 coal would get me 5,000 gp.

I'm training my magic and runecraft until I can do higher-lvl alchemy, so I can make that profit.

thats why im saying its more profitable to sell steel plates to players for 1k instead of 2 horvik.. :\

plus u save the cost of nats as well, there are cheaper ways of leveling mage. Heck i used strikes from 94-98 :P

This is my first post in this forum, but i am not new to RS. I joined this forum to point out a problem with RS2, please read the whole post if you read it.

I agree with you that smithing is less beneficial but it is not obsolete.

However, I'm a lvl 51 smith and Im a little pissed because all us smithers got screwed over with RS2.

For instance, I used to make most of my money by mining my own ores, smithing them into steel plates and selling them to horvik.

but in rs2, the stores dont auto-stock anymore, so on every server thate are about 21 steel plates just sitting there, driving the price you can sell for down to about 400. I USED to go to the store and wait till there was just 1, and i would sell 1 steel plate for 1200gp, wait till the stock went down again, and repeat.

Nowadays we are screwed because no one wants to buy steel armor from a person anymore and we can only sell for crap prices.

Smithing really has no benefit untill you can smith addy and rune, and for those of you who aren't smiths, after 45, levelling your smithing skill by mining your own ores takes FOREVER....and ever.

So i think it's safe to say it is rather discouraging being a smith and having to wait for lvl 80 to make a decent profit from anything.

at level 51 smithing I SHOULD be making some good money. But I am stuck being poor with all the noobs.

I say, every smith in RS should mail jagex asking them to re-implement the auto-stocking feature in the stores. Or auto-un-stocking for that matter. I have 25 steel plates that I refuse to sell for 400gp, and i'm sure im not alone in my frustration.

sigh, like i said, stock up on steel plates, and sell to players for 1k per. Lots of people pay that price.

Yea, that works, and otherwise just alch them yourself and you'll basicly get 900gp for the plate (buying nats 300 ea).

  • 1 year later...

Prices will continue to rise as more people make money, the more money is out there, driving buying prices to a all time high and selling prices to an all time low. The only thing That stops this is hovik's shop because it allways has a good price for buying and selling making smithing the downfall of rs.

The only thing that stops the skyrocket is the odd 20k drops that no one picks up. Death makes lide so much easier. Making smithing nessercery eventualy. As less and less death happens prices will hit sky high... eventually

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

smithing rune plates is very profitable if u have 98 or 99 smithing because the price of ore is what 15k each so that means that ur making 60k worth or something and selling it for 80k so how can u say ur not making a profit

somehow you must have spended MILLIONS to get level 98-99 smithing ;)

for me, i got sick of mining so i started to buy the ores, ( thank god some rl friend is mining me 4.5k coal but i started with 2 mill (when i started to buy ores) now i only have 200k (with a bit of money making) and i managed to get level 70 smithing * i dont wanna know how hard it will be to get a higher level :P*

if you want relative fast and profitable smithing exp try the blast furnace update. Buy mith ores and coals on the servers where the stock is full (mith ores 250-350 gp each, coal 100-150 each), trow it on the belt, cycle it in the furnace and logon to a server where are lots of people working on the machine. When the bars are ready you can just smith and high alch on the same spot and repeat the progress.

can you throw them at me and not pick them up plz?

On a lighter note smithing is cool but old fashioned in the eyes of many, as they can get stuff from monsters for free

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
