they normally occur when doing the same task over and over again e.g. fishing or mineing, they are designed like this to stop auto-ers

Never had random event? You're lucky you haven't get the bad events such as evil chicken, tree spirit..and so on. We get tons of random event...But i never get mime event, i want the mime gloves! It's cool...
