Sp00nLord
Ok, I have a theory about the druids of Runescape, which is that they are all, secretly or not, communists, and to prove this theory I have some evidence to back it up: 1. They worship the god, Guthix, with his ideals focusing on 'Balance', as well as lots of mumbo jumbo about Nature, very similar to the Communist ideals of fairness and equality for everyone. 2. During the 'Nature Spirit' quest you are required to forge a silver sickle to do some more things involving Guthix and Nature. The druids also use lots of sickles, one of the items prominent upon the Communist symbol of crossed hammer and sickle. 3. They all live simplistic lifestyles, you don't walk through Taverly very often and see a druid in full gilded druid robes, or wearing gold jewelry. This also falls in with the fact that all communist countries are always poor, as communism dosen't actually work in practice. These are my main ideas about the druids, as well as other more random ones (Such as all their facial hair, one thing in common with many prominant Russian communists.) Please no flaming or spamming! All bumps are welcomed!

Bubsa
There's nothing wrong with being a communist in theory, just the application of it in Russia went all roubles. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
jak722
1. They worship the god, Guthix, with his ideals focusing on 'Balance', as well as lots of mumbo jumbo about Nature, very similar to the Communist ideals of fairness and equality for everyone. Sounds like the Green Party to me... 2. During the 'Nature Spirit' quest you are required to forge a silver sickle to do some more things involving Guthix and Nature. The druids also use lots of sickles, one of the items prominent upon the Communist symbol of crossed hammer and sickle. So they like farming... Organic produce is nice! 3. They all live simplistic lifestyles, you don't walk through Taverly very often and see a druid in full gilded druid robes, or wearing gold jewelry. This also falls in with the fact that all communist countries are always poor, as communism dosen't actually work in practice. Like, dont be greedy man! Open your mind! Enough with the shackles of society! Down with bras! Down with bras! These are my main ideas about the druids, as well as other more random ones (Such as all their facial hair, one thing in common with many prominant Russian communists.) Please refer to the hippy suggestion above. The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

But i could be wrong and Jagex really are a secret communist society who are going to brainwash us all so we will join their world dominating communist party. Kalliel
One problem, communism says there is no God, Guthix is a God therefore they ain't communists
bogdraw
I'm just curious-are you studying communism in school at this time? I think its fun to interpret aspects of Runescape according to our own experiences!
RockyMaivia
Communism doesn't say there is no god, the russians when they were under communist rule just forced that on everyone. Communism is an economic/social class theory, doesn't have to do with religion in itself.

Communism is an economic/social class theory, doesn't have to do with religion in itself. WRONG! :D SOCIALISM is an economic theory. COMMUNISM is a SYSTEM that incorporates SOCIALISM. The parts of the Communist system are a classless society, absence of religion, all things socialist, and complete submission to the ruling elite (although that's getting more into Maoism/Leninism). Don't believe me? Check my locale... And the druids seem to be radical conservatives in my mind. the russians are the best! Hands down!
Dr_Elephant
I don't see anywhere that the starter of this thread was implying that Jagex was trying to entice kids to communisim through the Guthix druids. Jagex has been knows to draw parallels to many other aspects of modern culture. There are literary references strewn throughout (as indicated by another thread) and "inside jokes" galore. I'm even willing to bet there are jokes and references in-game that only members of the Jagex programming staff are in on. If someone decided to use communism as a basic idea to build off of when designing the culture of the fictitional druids, it's likely they did it just to add some depth and realism to that aspect of the game. If they were really trying to entice kids to such political philosophy, I'd expect them to make the druids much more appealing and something an impressionable teenager would want to model themselves after. They don't. The druids and their philosphies are (in my opinion) no different from the HAM cult. Just something that's a part of the game to make it less monotonous to play.
