  1. Swamp, if you ever check this thread again, I wish you well in all your real life endeavors.
  2. Good article. I disagree with most of it, but it was well written and best of all it was a good example of a "Rant" (my fellow Rant forum addicts are sure to appreciate the nod to our often-overlooked forum). I mainly disagree because the author is offering a solution to a "problem" I had never noticed before and will probably not plague me in the future. It's probably because I appreciate all the wide variety of choice that comes with the cooking skill and like the fact that any kind of food preparation I do goes to enhance one skill, as opposed to being split between two skills. I for one like cooking Ugthanki kebabs. I realize it isn't the most efficient way get food, but I get to level combat while getting the ugthanki meat and I also get to wipe the smug little smirks off those wannabe camels. Besides, the kebabs heal tons which help during those times I want to go hunting some more formidable foes. But I digress... Whether I'm cooking the pita bread or the illegitimate-camel meat, it all goes to level one skill. Yay! One thing that might make us both happy is instead of separating the skills, or raising the level needed to enter the cooking guild, the kitchens in the player-owned-houses could be equipped with more than just the basics. With a high enough contruction level, we could have an unlimited supply of all the materials that go into baking some high-healing baked goods. This might give the baking aspect of the cooking skill more attention, since people may be more willing to stop by their house and stock up on baked goods than over to Catherby to get fish. I know I'd rather stop home and bake a few things (since I live right by the member's dungeon) than all the way over to Catherby.
  3. What do you need them for? The only useful things gems do in F2P is make amulets. Once you have one of each F2P amulet (and maybe a couple more of each to spare), you should be set. Are you looking to raise crafting XP? If so, there are some quicker ways to do that.
  4. I agree with Kinslayer. You lose a little bit of cash during the exchange (they sell them for more than they buy them), but I very rarely have anyone try to "steal" my ess. People have been really nice about taking turns at the general store. The one precaution I do take is I wear as much ranging armour as possible to defend against the Broodoo victims' magical attacks, since people seem to neglect killing their own while playing Jungle Cleanup. I go wearing the following: Full Red Dragonhide Snakeskin Boots Ring of Life Elemental Shield Dragon Longsword Nature Tiara Amulet of Glory
  5. White beret Bird's egg (I won't get rid of it until I find out what the heck it's for) Christmas 2005 Hat/Scarf collection Rubber Chicken Easter Ring Cat Training Medal Goldsmithing Gauntlets Camo pants Lederhosen top and shorts
  6. Well, you were right about Keldagrim. It was taking too long, so I went to the Ice Giants. It was one of the first drops. :) This thread can now fade into oblivion.
  7. Yeah, I've been trying that. Seems not too many folks hang onto them though. I know when I've gotten them from drops, I generally alch them right away.
  8. Keldagrim was the winner. Thanks guys. Now all I need to do is world hop.
  9. Thanks for the suggestion. Champ's Guild has helm and legs, but no kites. It was worth a shot though.
  10. Are there any NPCs that sell black kite shields? I've already checked Falador and Varrok's armour shop to no avail.
  11. It's a mix of ease, efficiency and old habits. I've never been annoyed by the view (I'm not easily annoyed) and whether it's hard or not isn't part of the consideration. It's just a preference. I prefer charcoal over propane. I prefer rock over hip-hop. I prefer summer over winter. I prefer heels over flats... on women. I prefer my compass facing north 90% of the time. Dang it, now I'm hungry for barbecue.
  12. Runescape name: Doc Elephant Runescape nickname: Doc
  13. I've always been curious how others do this too, but never bothered asking. Thanks for doing the honors. North is "up" 90% of the time for me. When it's not, it's usually because I need to see something further in the distance (like when mining coal in the mining guild and waiting for the mithril to respawn).
  14. $100 dollars to watch a 90 minute movie is roughly $66 per hour. Sign me up.
  15. I almost didn't reply, just because I didn't want to bump up this post. However, I have to give you a virtual thumbs up for that quote.
  16. 25% = nature rcing 33% = long quest 50% = fletching ??% = treasure trail New math?
  17. You make a fair point and it's well taken. Let me ask you to defend it in more detail if you don't mind. Before we can determine what is an unfair advantage, we must determine what we consider an advantage of any kind. As the author stated, there is no "winning" this game and if there was a way to win it, wouldn't it have to do with leveling skills? Levelling skills would take longer between two avatars than it would with just one (as long as the rule forbidding logging in two accounts at once remains intact). If the implied advantage has to do with player versus player combat, I can see where you might think a combat pure might have an advantage over other PKers because of his high-level smithing main who supports him. However, if you're dividing your time between the pure and the smither, how are you different from a combat pure with high smithing? Finally, unfair advantages aside, I think it would be a wise business decision to adjust Rule 8 to allow drop trading. I currently don't drop trade because I prefer to avoid getting banned. Therefore I have one paid membership and a F2P avatar I haven't used in months. Remove the drop-trade clause, gain another $5 per month from me (and probably others).
  18. A movie about skilling? Even amidst the many bombs coming from Hollywood, I doubt they'd be that stupid. Or would they? If they were to try their hands at this, I'd envision something more closely related to the name. Maybe even using the Rune Mysteries quest as the basis for the plot. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it will be good. Just that I doubt it would have anything to do with "skill levels."
  19. A decent article. I agree with it as-is, but I'm curious about the author's opinion on Rule 8 with regard to drop trading since some opinions were given about some of the other rules. I can agree with the rule against logging into two accounts at once and having them interact with each other. I do feel it would not be of harm to Jagex to allow the risky act "drop-trading" though.
  20. I don't believe in Karma per se. I believe that in a very practical sense, what goes around comes around, but there's nothing truly mystical about it. If you walk around with a generally negative attitude, it can affect how others interact with you and it can affect your perspective on your environment. A negative person likely treats people negatively and because they are negative, they will notice every injustice done to them and every drop of rain that lands on their head, while disregarding or making excuses for the "good" things. Others may percieve this as karma having it's way with a bad person. "Oh he does bad things, so bad things happen to him." If you walk around with a generally positive attitude, it can affect how others interact with you and it can also affect your perspective on your environment, just in different ways. A positive person likely treats people better and will find people to be more enjoyable to interact with, since they are aiding in the pleasantness of the interaction. A positive person will have a short memory for unpleasantness, or might even see the bright side to each one, while embracing the positive things that happen to them. Observers my look at this and say one of two things, "He's got good karma," or "He's happy because good things happen to him!" The whole "full moon" argument falls into this line of thought as well. When the moon's full, we all start looking for crazy things to happen. Seeing as how crazy things happen every night, we'll have no shortage of observations. The other nights of the month, we're not as tuned in to the world's insanity and therefore we attribute craziness to the full moon.
  21. I don't last 15 minutes in RSC. Every once in a while, I'll see people talking about the "glory days" of RSC and I'll go to see what the charm is. Within moments, I'm bored and asking myself, "why play a game if I'm not having fun?" Then I quickly switch back to RS2. I'm an RS2 product? I've been called far worse.
  22. I dont get offended just really annoyed in runescape. Especially when people type just like this. Poetry?
  23. I'll jump on this bandwagon full of cheerleaders as well. Good content.
  24. I'm seeing a lot of subtleties in what you're saying. It seems to me that your concern lies in the following separate areas: 1. You're afraid of losing him as a friend 2. You're afraid that by alienating him, you'll alienate other friends 3. You're afraid that by alienating him, you'll jeapordize your placement within your clan Once you decide which of these is most important to you, then you'll be in better position to decide your next course of action. #1 and #2: If you're more concerned about friendships and relationships, you'll employ more conflict-resolution skills than anything else. #3: If you're more concerned about clan leadership, then you'll need to employ more strategy. Let us know what you decide and we'll be better equipped to advise.
  25. I voted for profile only. My second choice would have been to remove it entirely. It seems the people voting to have it removed - while holding a majority - are watching their vote get split.
