Easter soon! (Post what you think it will be!)
Don't ask me why, but the first thing that came to mind was an umbrella (maybe because of the "April showers" thing).

Kennys runescape comic!
:D While I have different personal tastes in humor, I really love that you did this. This is what I imagine the community being for: simple, senseless fun.

Runscape invasion
LOL. For some reason I just imagined little pixelated cops, infiltrating the notorious autoing crime ring; putting the squeeze on the runners to give up the name of their main. "You see, Mr. 0oo00o0oox1I1I1I, we caught you red-handed. You can make this alot easier on yourself if you just tell us who you're working for." "You can't prove anything! I'll never talk!" "We've got witnesses who place you at the scene. Now give up your main!" "You can't prove anything! I'll never talk!" "Give it up you low-life scum!" "You can't prove anything! I'll never talk!" "I said TALK you... wait a second." "You can't prove anything! I'll never talk!" "Hey, this perp is using an autotyper now!" "You can't prove anything! I'll never talk!" "Take him back to holding!"

Is Runescape educational ....
I work in the financial industry. I interact with people every day who did well in school, got excellent grades, went to college and did well there too, but now their credit is ruined because they were never prepared for the reality of economics. Runescape can do that a little, but only to a certain extent. No matter how poor your avatar is, it's always easy to rebuild wealth in the game. Even if your account was "hacked" and your bank was wiped clean, you can still muster up the strength to take down a goblin for a few gp to buy a pickaxe and mine your way out of poverty rather quickly. What do I propose? RS debt. We already have banks in RS. Why not implement a loan program through those banks, complete with interest? The youngsters will get all excited to borrow a quick 100K to afford that Dragon Long they've been wanting. Then, when they start to ignore the repayment plan, repossesion begins and their RS credit suffers, negatively affecting their ability to borrow money again. That's the kind of lesson I'd like folks to have learned before they come to me in real life. Edit>>> Lest anyone think I'm taking this too seriously, remember that it's harder to convey my dry sense of humor in text form.

how are people getting full zombie so easily?
Funny how you mention a slayer task captianant. I was killing crocs when I was whisked away twice for everything except the mask. Maybe burying bones + slayer increases the odds dramatically? Just guessing.

Would you keep playing without a community?
I'd still play. I'd just have a lot less game knowledge.

rs music
Same here. The one or two times I tried high detail, the music wouldn't play half the time anyway.

Tip.It Times Presents: An Ethical Dilemma
And as we all know, as long as one feels something is "fishy" the only next logical step is to assume the worst. Andrew wrote one little line about legal action (which he apologized for in another thread), but it was a part of a much larger post. One in which he made some rather good points. It was likely those points (and the fact that the article was even noticed by Jagex's top dog in the first place) that had the most influence in the removal of the article. Bottom line is, I'm not going to assume anything. I will however believe Kiara Kat and Newptor when they state their reasons for removing the article, only because they have no real reason to be untruthful about it. I'm almost sorry that my post will bump this thread again...

I'm one of those "low detail" outcasts.

Tip.It Times Presents: An Ethical Dilemma
Sadly, no matter how often you stress this, people will believe what they've already convinced themselves to believe.

It looks like a glowing spoon to me.

Who thinks this would be a better alternitive to banning
They could use the Port Sarim jail for rule-breakers. Instead of real time days for banning, they could use hours of gameplay, so each cheater/potty-mouth would have to spend a certain amount of gameplay in jail, getting taunted by the visitors. PS: This is all tongue-in-cheek. I don't really expect Jagex to spend hours to code something special for rulebreakers.

TEH Person Under Me
No, but I am in the Guinness Book of World Records. Ginus is just a cheap imitation. TPUM is recovering from some kind of illness.

Am I the only one that saw this part of Kiara Kat's article?

Older persons who play Runescape
I'm 28. The guy who introduced RS to me is 47. He's almost level 90. My son plays too (under my supervision and assistance) and he's almost 7. It's a game that's fun for all ages. Like chess (which we also enjoy). What concerns me is when I see some people (young and old) take this game way to seriously. Like it's a second life they're living or something.

A Tale of Hacking
You must have some suspicions as to how this happened...? Keylogger? "Friend" who knew (or obtained) your password? Any leads?

Article about Runescape on the BBC
What could it be, 10000 ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã? Andrew Gower or some Jagex staff probably could've written it themselves and published it for a small fee :P And this is how rumours start gentlemen... Decent article. It ended kind of abruptly though. I thought there'd be a second page or something. I'd like for them to have mentioned something about the parallels between Runescape's virtual economy and real world economies.

Tip.It Times Presents: Biased Banning Raises Brows
Personally I follow the rules of the game. However, if there's one rule I disagree with, it's the rule against drop-trading. Honestly, it's win-win. 1. If I'm willing to buy another membership just to act as a "mule" for my main account, why wouldn't Jagex just take the money and let me do my thing? Frankly, they're missing out on that money because if that rule were dropped, setting up a 2nd member account is the first thing I'd do. 2. Right now, RS takes too much of my computer's memory for me to play two different avatars at the same time, so if I were to use a mule, I'd drop trade. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm willing to risk dropping my items/gp on the ground and hope I can log in with a 2nd account fast enough to beat anyone else to it, wouldn't that add an interesting dimension to the game? It would be sort of like the risk one takes when going into the wilderness. How is multi-logging and drop-trading cheating? I'm asking sincerely because maybe I'm missing something. Having said all the above, I will continue playing by Jagex's rules. If only because I just want to avoid being banned. :)

Tip.It Times Presents: The Greed Factor
I believe my post has been addressed and with a more rational response than yours I might add. I stand by what I said. When I sit down at the computer and log onto Runescape.com, that's when leisure and relaxation begins. It's escapism. All of it. The good and the bad. I'm sorry that you get emotional when you lose an in-game item. I don't. I don't consider cutting down willow trees and mining coal rocks "work" because I know what real work is. It's what I'm escaping when I sit down and play this video game. No, sorry but it's not. You didn't "earn" 400K. You played a game. Yes, I'll admit it took hours of gameplay to gather such a large sum, but you were playing a game. Playing. Here, I'll type it again. Playing. If you're comparing the labor you're putting your avatar through to the real labor/politics/dynamics of working to earn real money (electronically transmitted or not), you're not the kind of 44 year old I'd want my children to look up to as a role model. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this was written to be humorous. It did make me chuckle.

I Will Help You If I Can: Combatting the Greed Factor
There is no need for people to "make a living" in Runescape. The game, unlike most MMORPGs, allows you to train all skills available making self-sufficiency a very real part of the game. That would be the case if it were mandated, as it would be under a communist system. When the items are freely given by the creator it's philanthropy, not communism. Those who work hard are rewarded, with the experience and levels that enable them to create and obtain the most sought-after items in the game. That alone encourages anyone to further their skills. By putting the means of production into the hands of people starting out, you encourage them to go out and do something useful. Good read, but I can't help thinking you may have missed the point of it. Ayn Rand rightly suggests that communism and socialism in it's many guises stifle individual creativity and create a disincentive to contribute to society. What she doesn't do is suggest that individual philanthropy has any such effect. No-one is forcibly redistributing the wealth of high-level players here. Simply giving low-level players the ability to forge ahead and succeed. It's trickle-down economics at it's best and Ayn Rand would be proud. Wonderfully worded dwarfie76! I agree with everything you've said in this post and have nothing to add, which is very unusual for me. :)

I Will Help You If I Can: Combatting the Greed Factor
There's also a lot of fun in hosting anonymous drop parties. Suggestion: Go to Champ's guild, train combat, prayer and cooking with the chickens, then wander over to the dark wizards south of Varrok and drop the chickens in random patterns. Some just laugh, but others are grateful and don't know who to be grateful to so they'll just shout "Whoever's dropping the chickens, thanks!" Suggestion: Take some armour to a low-level training area (cows, goblins, Al-Kharid warriors, etc) and drop them one at a time. Food works here too. Suggestion: Mine gold from Crafting Guild, smelt it in Falador furnace and on your way back, take a detour to the Rimmington mines where there are usually people fighting over the two gold rocks. Drop the bars in a wide pattern, making it easy for everyone to get a few. It's my theory that anonymity does two things: 1. It eliminates the beggars, unless they figure out who the generous benefactor is. 2. When they have nobody to thank personally, they're more likely to "pay-it-forward" so to speak. When they know exactly who gave them the items, it's easier for them to think their duty ends with a simple "thank you." 3. For those of you who follow such teachings as "...when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret..." you'll find it much more rewarding in the long run.

advertising: a jagex double standard
Adam007 wrote: I didn't hear about Runescape from Tip.It, but I did become a paying member because of the things I learned on Tip.It, so they do help. That said, I can still understand having to enforce this rule across the board. Leaving any gray areas only means more administrative nightmares for Jagex's customer support.

Tell YOUR history in RuneScape in 5 short numbers!
1. January 2005 - On my first day a level 30-something gave me free bronze full and led me to the nearest goblins/cows to start training. Haven't seen him since. 2. Venturing outside of Lumbridge for the first time (it took a while). 3. Finishing Dragon Slayer and being able to wear Rune, but not able to afford it until many weeks later. 4. After joining members, seeing the infamous Kalphite Queen for the first time (before quickly being sent back to Lumbridge). 5. March 2006 - Still enjoying it.

Should I Member?
I'd say if you've done all the free quests and you haven't become bored with the game yet - and you've got $5 burning a hole in your wallet every month - it's worth considering. In general, the people are much more courteous and intelligent on P2P. That's not a bash at polite, mature and bright F2Players, of whom there are many. It's just that there's less of the "other" crowd in members.
