Music, movies. Why so different people?

Featured Replies

This may sound a bit weird. But I was wondering, why are people always fighting here when it comes down to music, they find the SMALLEST things to create an argument. When you watch at the movie threads, you hardly got any flaming, from time to time the occasional flame, but nothing special. Why is this? Anybody could explain it to me?

Oh, and just a funny thing I noticed along the way of this forum and to flame a bit. All the people who hate mainstream music like mainstream movies. I wonder how these people can take theirselves so serious.

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

Hmm. Maybe because the flamer can picture the person on a bus/train listening to their most hated music genre so loud, they are forced to listen along?

I really don't know. How musical taste can be so offensive to people dumbfounds me.

I don't really understand why there is so much flaming on this board...

It's kind of simple... you don't like it.. don't listen to it... but don't flame other people for what they like... (I swear it's like teaching a bunch of second-graders)

id have to say because it is easier to listen to all kinds of music and hold opinions, whereas movies are much longer, so you dont watch as big of a variety. actually i dont know if that makes sense or not  .

I think maybe it's because if you like a particular genre of music, people assume you're a particular sort of person. Most people wouldn't label someone as a particular type because of the films they've seen.

Music is something you listen to again and again, whereas films (usually) you see every once in a while -- that is, people generally don't sit at home every night and watch the same film, or the same few films again and again.

As for why people argue about even the slightest thing when it comes to music... I couldn't say. Perhaps it's to do with people having very strong views about classifications of music, but not as strong views about classifications of films.

It's weird but true. I'm much more inclined to dislike someone based on music taste than film taste, and i haven't the foggiest idea why. Maybe it's something to do with the whole culture that's associated with lots of music, which isn't so apparent with films.

I think it is because music is so much more personal. It seems to really touch people more so than movies anyways.

I'd say it's more that there just generally aren't as big of variety of movies. Sure, there's all different types of genres, but a lot of them are all set up in the same way. I think there's also less movies, and more people like each movie...Like, Da Vinci code, like 10 million Americans went to see that last weekend, because it was either that or one of the other 2-3 major releases. With music you get hundreds of different songs, from a dozen different genres being released every week. So I think many movies appeal to a large audience because they have to, music doesn't because they are all trying to find a niche and then they will do just fine.

However, this only explains why more people may have similar tastes in movies, and not why people get so defensive about there own kind. I think it's because music has a much greater effect on Western culture. Music is everywhere, musicians change the styles of clothing/talking/acting way more than movies, and they change people. And then people become more divided, each with there little niche, and then it's a constant stuggle for power.

I think most of us don't understand movies enough to discuss it deeply, while most people think they understand music (I include myself in this group).

People who know a thing or two about movies will often have a little bit more culture, which makes them better and more understanding people, this way, they won't flame others as much.

Cause the genre of music people listen to define them. They feel that they need to defend it when someone speaks negative of it. THough I try not to argue concerning music anymore. I'm too tired of it :(
