Post count sticky

Recommended Posts

We ought to have a post count faq sticky, either here or as a regular (not sticky) post on the announcements board.

Include the forums where post counts are not counted (info) and the ranks that are assigned to post counts (info).

I can write it if you want, but it would be best for an admin to verify the information.

Sorry this took so long. For some reason I didn't see the reply until today  Here's a first draft. Comments, suggestions, critique etc. welcome. Especially with the reason why some forums don't affect post count (I know why.. it's just putting it into words :))

1) What is post count?

  • Your post count is the number of posts you have written. See Wikipedia's article on
Post Count. Note that some forums do not count towards your post count.

2) Which forums are not included in my post count? Why not? (AKA Why isn't my post count increasing?!)

  • The following forums do not count towards your post count:
    • [*:3dgnosu2]The market forums ([bleep]es and Splinters, Zamorak's Armoury, Robin Hood's Workshop, The Tailor Shop, The Greenhouse, Pick 'N' Apron Bazaar, Market of Saradomin, Chef's Cauldron, Falador Square and RSC Marketplace.)

      [*:3dgnosu2]RuneScape Clan Recruitment Centre

      [*:3dgnosu2]Clan Archives

      [*:3dgnosu2]Player vs Player

      [*:3dgnosu2]Graveyard

      [*:3dgnosu2]Graveyard Discussion, Help, and Advice

      [*:3dgnosu2]Forum Games

[*:3dgnosu2]Rate This! (Achievements and Goals too!)

This is because many of the posts in these forums are one line, or even one word, and do not constitute "worthy" posts.

3) What are the ranks associated with post count?

  • Remember, these ranks show quantity, not quality ;)

    •
      [*:3dgnosu2]1-25

      Chicken Feather

If it were me, I'd go so far as to add a little speech about quantity over quality. Something like

Tip.It asks users not to focus on post counts. Our goal is to encourage users who write thoughtful, valuable posts which contribute to the pool of game knowledge. A high post count will not gain the respect of other users if 800 of them consisted of the words "Me too!"

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

Well written Guide Cameron. You might also include an example of the one liners in the forums which don't include post counts. E.g Bump is a throughly used word in those forums. And how they don't require much thought in those threads, which is the main aspect which tip.it looks at with post counts. That they want thought being put into the posts.

Don't know if that helps or not. But good guide nonetheless. =D>
