Fletching isn't the quickest way to make money but it is a proftiable skill after lv 70, especially if you have lv44 RC. The quickest way to mage longs is to make unstrung willow longs until lv70 then strung yew longs until lv 80 (alch all yew longs to buy materials required - you will not lose money as long as you either craft your own nats or cut your own yews). Then mage shorts until lv85.

One way to speed up the making of yew longs is to trade finished bows for materials, there are a few people on the forums who will trade you 1 yew log and 1 bow string for every finished yew long (usually in batches of 1000).

Basically fletching is a skill which can be bought (up to a point - more money = faster xp) but it isn't cheap to do (in fairness it is cheaper than many other skills but still not actually cheap per se).

Rough price guide:

Willow logs = 30-40 (best buy on f2p worlds)

Yew logs = 250-300 (volatile, world 2 often has good prices in bulk)

Bowstrings = 150-200 (more in bulk, sometimes hard to find sellers)

Mage logs = ~1k

i also reccomend charging these people on forums as most of them are just trying to merchant,

you can sell 1k strung yew longs for 600gp per

so why trade 450gp of stuf when u can make an extra 150gp

x1000 thats an extra 150k

if that makes sense

What you say is true and I tend to gather my own stuff and alch it for funds, however, the reasons I included material trades are these:

1. Darth specifically mentioned speed as a concern.

2. Buying bowstrings in bulk for less than 200 gp per is a pain

3. Selling 1k of yew longs is a massive pain, loads of people try to do this so the market sucks.

4. Buying or cutting materials takes time, a regular material trader is much quicker in my personal experience

Besides this, if you look carefully on the forums (or even post an offer) people are often willing to pay you a small amount of cash per bow.

I did 99 fletching from 70 in about 3 months, I think I made 35-40M of it too :D It's not the fastest money in the game, but it's a sure way of making it, as opposed the merchanting.

I am only now starting to mak a bit of profit from the fletching i have just hit 80, and to get there i made 1k yew longs and got a regular contact to trade my 1k longs for 1k materials, of course you can mess about hanging around banks looking for poeple to buy your longs but take it from me it will take you twice as long to lvl up as nobody wants to buy unless they craft thier own nats.

I am actually losing money now by fletching my logs into shorts but that doesnt matter as the long term goal is mage longs and that will far outweigh the loss with what i will earn during the process of getting 99wc 99 fletch and all the magic from alching that comes with it.

But like others have already siad it is not the easiest money, its very boring and tedious, but once you get there its a constant flow of cash.

it will mke you lots of money if you get your own materials but if you just buy all the stuff you'll make a little or break even. Some people enjoy it, I think it hurts my wrists all that clicking.

Its arguably the easist skill to max, but i think more money can be made just training on green dragons or doing slayer.

profitable, is the word.

And really, the point at which it is best is when you can make the best bows, after that I think 99 is just a by product of using the skill alot. I've spent the last few days trying to get from 67-70 feltching, but I'm using maples and making longs to high alch with my own nats. It's taking a while though, I've been spinning my own flax too though, for the crafting xp.

it is a good way to make money. i have a nice set up, im currently 80 wc and 77 fletch, i make my own nats, i cut my own yew, and i have a nice little spot where i pick flax right next to a bank. the only draw-back of makin bows is stringing. that takes forever, since you can only string 14 at a time, which takes a while when you do 1-3k at a time. in my opinion, its worth the money, and magic exp.

I gotta agree with the above user, once you get 70 fletching and 44rc, it's like getting paid to earn magic xp. You can even buy your logs and bstrings(300 and 150 respectively) and get a high alch of 768, which is like getting 318 per nat AND magic xp. Only probelm is it all takes time. I have got 70 fletching now though, gonna pull the money in with it.

If you buy your all materials and alch then you will make profit of whopping 18gp per bow.

But if you make your own nats then it's good profit.

Currently getting 99 fletch, now 96, about 150k from 97.

Total of bows i'm making:

33k yew longs.

3k logs to cut to unstrung.

2k bows alched.

27k unstrung in bank.

1k finished bows in bank.

19k flax in bank.

~4k strings in bank.

~9k nats in bank. (thanks to saidinwot :) )

~14k ess in bank.

Just make like 10K nats when you're 44 runecrafting.

Then train fletching to 70, and buy 10K yews & bowstrings. Make yew longs, and enjoy your profit!

Maybe if you want a lil faster exp, just buy the nats. Remeber if you train to 99 fletch on the hard way (alch all your bows) you can get 90+ magic too.

18gp per bow is still good, you're making 18gp per bow AND the fletching and magic xp.

Aren't magics better money than yews though? Fletching/alching wise?

EDIT:No, I was wrong, I thought the high alch values for the magicbows were completely different to what they are.

1000 magic log

0150 bowstring

0300 nat

-----

1450 total cost

1536 high alch value of a yew long

86 gp profit.

Whenever I see someone selling mage logs, I offer 800ea for the heck of it. People will frequently sell for that because it is much harder to find mage log buyers than it is to find yew buyers.

286 gp profit while gaining nice fletch and magic experience? Now that's what I'm tawkin' aboot.

if you are patient, you can get magic logs in quantities of 20-200 for 900 each pretty easily if you constantly type it at seers bank.

the same for bowstring at 100 each. you get less trades but its usually for quantities between 100-1k so the magic to bs ratio evens out
