That isnt true, there is a probability for it. The odds that you will get 5 chains from 5 dusties is near impossible. You can average the drop rates out to say you roughly get a whip every 12 hours and dragon legs in 100 kills etc.

Yes it is random, but to be honest, nothing is random.

You see that as random, I see that as a pattern. Everything in rs evens out. When mining coal ores (or above), I'm sure you've all noticed how after 1 hitting several in a row, the next will be extra long hits. The same pattern can be found in most things in rs, such as thieving, agility, and even what damage you do on monsters. Because of this, my opinion is that it works the same way with monster dros. You got 3 rune meds in a row? I betcha you wont get one for quite a while, to blance out your luck. So even if you don't know the drops rate, and technically it is the same for every one you kill...I'm sure your balancing will take place, and luck will be on your side once more.

Lol, that happened to me once. I even switched worlds in between.

Probability. That's all it is. Say the drop rate for a chain is 1/100. Now, the first thing that comes to your mind is that every 100 kills you should get a chain. WRONG. You can kill it a million times and still get the 99/100 drops that isn't a chain. There really are drop rates, just because you don't get a drop in your 10k kills doesn't mean it's random.

Here's one:

My team of 4 killed about 270 kq's and we got 4 chains. we were lucky.

I've heard that it's about 1 in 90 or so.

Someone once said it like this:

Imagine a dice like is used in D&D, everytime u kill a monster the dice is rolled and it has x-sides that it can turn up on. So i'm thinking that KQ's dice has at least 80 sides, to what it rolls on is based on luck.

a fool or a coward.

Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law

is both.

For a wounded man shall say to his assailant:

"If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven."

Such is the Rule of Honor.

Actually, my understanding of it is that there are, in fact, 2 "dice". I remember reading this either on this site or the Knowledge base in something related to how the Ring of Wealth works.

The ring has absolutely no affect on the first roll. Once it lands on a number, if it's a certain number the "rare drop die" is rolled. This one IS affected by the Ring of Wealth, but due to just how many sides it can have it could take quite some time to get a specific item if it's one that requires both "dice" to be rolled.

So say the first one has 30 sides. Then you only have a 1 in 30 chance of even getting a shot at the item you want. Factor in the second die. Even if it only has 10 sides, that's still a 1 in 300 chance you'll get the exact item you're after if it's a rare drop. Ring of Wealth helps some, but it can only do so much.

RoW to the dice factor is like:

To get the D Chain you have to roll an 80 on the dice (80 sided dice). RoW make the dice have like 30 sides that have 80 on them instead of like 31,32,33,34 etc

^Does that make sense? :-k

Actually, my explanation on RoW is (if I'm not mistaken) derived from a quote from Jagex somewhere on Tip.It.

In fact, I believe I'll find it and post it here.

k, i sorta understand the dice thing, but we are also all wearing wealths. if the probablilty is so low, how come some people get it so often? thats like winning the lottery twice in the same month...getting the right # combo.

Pure luck?

I liked the first dice explanation, makes sense :)

...can't...find...quote! :wall:

Anyways, from what I remember their analogy actually used 2 roulette wheels instead of dice, but it's the same general concept.

The same could be said about a roulette wheel...

It falls back to something I'm going to refer to as the law of equallity (simply because I can't remember the real name). Everything in this world balances itself out over time.

Take coin flips for example: The first flip you have a 1 in 2 chance of getting either side. Say you get tails for that flip. The next flip should be 50/50 as well, right? Wrong. When flipping in succession, each time you get a certain side it decreases your chances of getting that same side on the next flip. So say you get a whole spree of tails all in a row. Each time it lands on tails, it increases the chances of the next flip being heads.

In that Fire Giant example, the drops on the second run were merely the counter-balance for the lack of drops on the first run. It sometime occurs on a much larger scale, but the principle is the same.

It's not random, just some people are unlucky while others are more lucky. There ARE drop ratios, just no one knows them since jagex refuses to tell them to us, although if you keep a drop log of thousands of kills, you can find some of the ratios for more common drops.

There is a reason you get more coins then you get dragon items, because they have a drop ratio. If it was random, you would end up getting coins, or some other really common drop, as often as dragon items, which never happens. If you have killed a large amount of one monster, you will know it isn't random, you just have streaks of luck and bad luck from time to time.

On topic...I don't know the ratio for d chain, all I know is I've killed over 150 with no chain
