censoring the word noob (and other words) discussion

Featured Replies

it seems like the most conservative people run runescape.:shame:

You can hardly get away with saying anything that may offend the tiniest noob. So...why hasn't Jagex banned the word noob anyway? I mean, they censor the word fart  Who could possibly be offended by the word fart??

Anyways they also censor the words stalker and pervert which should probably be allowed because if someone is sexually harassing you, then you should be able to make them go away.

So it seems like a mystery to me why Jagex hasn't banned the word noob. Do you think they should or not? Do you think they will? Post here.

Thank you for listening to my rant ::'

They won't, period. Noob is used extremely loosely. You didn't except the trade? You didn't die? You did die? Your avatar is a girl? You got scammed? You DO scam? You used grammar? You didn't use grammar? You look funny? Noob. With many many more.

I was called a 'noob'. Is this offensive? Should I report this player?

Calling other players a 'noob' is quite common in most online games.

It's not something to worry about as it means 'new player'. Every player has to be a 'noob' at some point.

The best thing to do is to ignore them.

It was censored for a short while within the past year. Maybe for like 2 weeks. Then they uncensored it.

Meaning they did it, it got so much negative feedback, they gave it back.

But that's where Jagex needs to do some of their own research. Newb is not the same as Noob.

We were all a newb, only some of us are noobs.

Even if noob is censored, it wont matter, because people will just think of a new insult, and that will become the new word to discribe noobs.

The things that are censored are:

1. Words commonly accepted as foul words

2. The word "password"

3. Anything that seems like a web address

4. Any word that infers inappropriate subject matter

"Noob" doesn't match any of these definitions. "Jerk", "Fool", and other insults

are not censored, so why should the word "Noob" be censored?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but, I am not sure you realize tht what you heard is not what I meant.

The word pen0r isn't censored :? I got muted for that one cause I didnt expect it to work.

I don't think they should block 'Noob', a lot of names have Noob in it. I'd hate to be called ****ofwar or ****remote (Two of my friend's names)

Both of those words fit in the #4 category. However, "H0" isn't the actual word, but a clever bypass of te word you are intending to use.

Even thought that is what the majority of ppl go by, you must understand that these are invented words that dont really have official meanings and is open to anyones interpretation.

Block the password for real! That way password scammers become fools :D

Block the password for real! That way password scammers become fools :D

Since the password entry process doesn't restrict what you put in, not only would it be darn-near impossible to do this (programatically), but what if the password happened to be a regular word?

Now, I think the password change/entry should require both upper and lower case characters and numbers. With embedded uppercase characters, it would make it very difficult for someone to use a password that's been spoken in-game. Sure, they could try every variation until it worked, but that can be controlled by a three-attempt/lock IP process.

However, this gets us off topic. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, the in-game censor.

i think the word noob should only be used towards those who are lazy, dont know much about the game (because they are literally noobs), and those who act immature. although every once in a while when my friend and i are joking ill throw in a your a noob for laughs. :P

liek omg rly?
