Shadowbane - pvp mmorpeg

if you like pvp or gvg, then give this game a try. it's very cool when it comes to combat, but offers not much else. the really good part is, that it is completely free, since the company that made it (wolfpack studios) disbanded. for some reason the servers are still maintained though.

i payed it for a while, but came back to runescape. guess i'm not that much into combat.

if you play it, i'd recommend the server "brailla". it's newest and most populated.

leveling is pretty easy. you can get to lvl 75 (wich is max) in two days, if you get powerlvled by somebody with an adequate macro and don't get pked too often =P other then that, you really need a guild for mine fights and banes (where you attack the cities of other guilds).

be warned though: it takes a little to get into and your first toon most likely is crap. there are that many build options, that you'll most likely gimp it.

here's the link to download and such:

it says "free trial" and "buy now" but you can't even buy it anymore. just download the trial. it's the complete game and you can make as many accounts as you want here. you just need to sign up at ubi, once per account.

here's the link to the main page, where you can read about the game:

I don't know how long you've been playing but do you remember the original FBI (False Beliefs Inc, aka The Feds) or FB (False Beliefs)? My friend was GL and we never lost a bane. About all we did was PvP and no matter how much people talked s* about us, we always beat them in PvP. Our PvP groups were usually a few amazing tanks, a heal priest, a buffbot, and a wizzy or our dwarf holy spec group (whom all had Mexican names). I used to play a 70 deflar, 72 wizzy, and a 61 thief (who picked off the inexperienced r7 deflars). The only server I ever played on is Mourning (but we did go to the rp server for a few weeks). Now the whole guild has moved on to other games and I've lost contact with most of the original group, but I'll always remember the good times..

* Warning * Do not play this game if you don't like levling as an r2 and being ganked by a group of r7's on their way to a mine.. Or if you don't like PvP.. Carebears die.

EDIT: Forgot to mention.. The reason the servers are still up is because SBG (Stray Bullet Gaming) took over and is keeping the servers online for free (for now). Also I though Ashen Temper left with WP but I guess not..)

i started a couple moths ago and played for some weeks. never really found into the game i think. first i had this lvl 60 irekei dagger scout, then i moved to brailla. there i have a lvl 75 human wizzy, lvl 75 elf druid (pling toon) and a lvl 40 =P vampire thief (i'm in chaotic deception on brailla btw). then i made a irekei wizzy on the loreplay server (lvl 60).

had a really hard time with my wizards. they just die soo fast. humans can neither fly, nor do they have heals =(

although i loved it, when somebody tried to escape, to translocate right in his running path. then stun, dot, nuke until death. NEVER flee from a wizzy...

just didn't like, that you can barely do anything on your own, since i'm quite a loner.

what's a deflar again? what kind of thief did you play and what kind of wizzy?

A deflar is a defensive templar. They usually get their defense up to 2100+ wearing heavy armor. I played a vampire theif so I wouldn't have to sorry about stam problems.

I played a vampire wizard so I could AE drain for 1000+ and single target drain for 1100+. I loved flying about target callers and draining all their health or just taking out the heal priest. Also depending on what nuke you choose to train you may be able to fly forever, so tanks just stand below you dieing or run away.

Also a good build is a high int irekei NS proccer. I had one at r4 (spent 7m on wepons) and almost killed a 75 priest before he could out heal my damage and get an evac.

you see... i never became any good in this game. what was most appealing, where the many races and classes you can choose from, but it's not my thing to test out effective builds and such. i just want a stylish toon. so sb is probably nothing for me anyway, but sometimes i think people who build pures on rs would be better off at sb.

probably human wizards don't have much potential. no flying like nephs or blegosh, no heals like shades or irekei, no insta hide like shades have, no drains like vampires, no archmage disc... just some more trains. guess i really choose the inferior class.

Humans, while lacking many things, make great deflars/buff bards because of all those extra trains. Also, shades are not the only ones with insta-hide. Any rogue with hide GM'ed will insta-hide.

As far as people playing pures being better off on SB.. I wouldn't say that's true for the most part. On RS they know that they can take almost anyone thye run into (level pending) but in SB there's a chance that an r7 could be killed by an r4. RS is mostly about high strength and high attack to win a fight, but in SB it's all about how well you build and play your character.

Oh and having a stylist toon is great (I usually had one just for looks) but it's better to have a pvp toon too. A stylish toon is great for hanging around your city with friends or whatnot, but pvp is the best part of the game.

Have you ever attended a bane? Defensive are the most fun because you are actually working to protect something you helped build, where as an offensive bane you kill the enemy until they just give up, then you spend an hour tearing down their city. Our city was baned 5-7 times when I played. I've only been to a few offensive banes, and the most fun I had is when we were outnumbered 15 to 40. We killed their guys and forced them into their bank (where they locked us out). We started beating on their tree and picking off the guys who tried to run from the bank and make it out the walls. Finally we beat down the bank and they scrambled everywhere. We killed most of them and then beat down their tree.. Slowly.. After about a half hour someone said their track was full of the guys we had been fighting. So I checked mine and I had totally different people on my track. I looked at the top of my map and it was blue.. They had called in almost the entire server to get rid of us. One of our trebs finished the tree and they came through the wall.. Well, none of us survived that but we had destroyed the city and they were mad.. 2 days later someone gave them a new city :wall:

Yes, I know I talk a lot but this is one game I loved..

I just got this game a couple days ago, level 21 Irekai thief right now. It's amazing how quickly you can level up in the beginning if you get a good group. (Or, a bunch of Aracoix spellcasters to help you out.)

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Umm.. I think you mean Neph casters.. Aracoix are mostly played as rogues or the flying priest..

Just wondering.. How are you building your thief? UA or daggers? Proc or melee? Pvp or steal?

The best way to build a thief (non-proc) is max dex (with leg/god rune applied), con 70-80 (depends on your play style), then max int with remaining points.

I'm going to log on my old account and see if I can get you a pic of my old thief (if I haven't deleted him)...

EDIT:

That's my thief on Redemption. He has a bunch of r7 contracts from the city I owned, before WP screwed me out of 20m, then I gave my city away.

~Yes I know I took his con too high, but I never too the time to refine it. He's wearing 20 dex necklace, 10/10 dex/int rings, 8/40 vamp LA, 8/10 dex gloves, 8/windy boots, vorg dagger, and warlords of dispatch fanged dagger.

i thought about insta hide in contex of wizzys. invisibility is a huge boon to survivability. that, damage shield and translocate.

yes i was at a couple of banes. First one was an offensive bane against the guys who hld the biggest city in OUR territory. our nation held two big citys east of AB. theirs was on the west. It was a politically very important bane, especially for our nation, wich was the biggest of the small, or the smallest of the large ones back then. The baned city belonged to the troublemakers on the server. We wanted to claim the territory as our own and show, that we couldn't be intimidated by their constant bragging. wellll...

we rallyed in the capital. nation leader was concentrated and you could feel how important this bane was to him. we fielded almost 5 complete groups, wich seemed to be A LOT and made our way towards their "city". It was deserted. no sign of them. They had torn down their own walls and all the buildings besides the tree?! appearently just to mock us. we gathered around the banestone. casters stacked on the bulwark. meelers infront and around the entrance to the bulwark. holy spec group ready to flank and waited for the bane to go live.

then our scouts reported activity at the tree. they started to appear. nation leader asked: "how many" "LOTS" Since that was my first bane i hadn't adjusted my settings for the needs of a bane. mini map suddenly was filled with blue dots as they charged. Next i only saw minos running towards the bulwark i was standing on and a thundestorm let lose by two full groups of casters on the bulwark. in ventrilo it was like "OMG" then: laaag.

Later i heard they charged with 6 groups and then flanked us with a full sent spec group.. none of us survived.

when we rallied again in the capital. our moral was broken. we went back two times. the beat us back effortless. then they got bored and knocked down the stone.

The mainbody of our army consisted of farmers and plers. we had no chance at all.

and that was my first bane. maybe more to come.

i might try it soon do you guys suggest a good race and class?

A great class to start with is vampire. They only use stam when flying and running because their powers cost health (unlike all other races which use stam for powers). Vampire are pretty much good for whatever you play them as. I've played a thief, wizard, scout, and warrior. They all played well. If you really want a good toon make a dwarf spear warrior. You'll have to find a template, but we had a guy in our guild who could touble tap for 500's on his dwarf spear warrior (it's a shame I never got the template from him). I tried building my own and got as high as double tapping 240's (although my gear was nowhere near as good as his).

-(US-&-Canada-Only)]You can download it here. You have to create and account but it doesn't cost anything. When Lineage II C4 came out I had to make an account there to download it. When you click to select a download there's a section for subscribers and a section for free users (which usually has a wait time).
