cruiser1338
Just found it today but Blender 2.34 is out, and it is a big improvement over the last one. For those who have used it, they've put back in the game engine, added dynamic particles (you can make them interact with the enviroment, like bounce off cubes and planes. You can also make tornados and such much easier with the implemented vortex modifier), integrated Yafray renderer into it (produces near photorealistic renders) and added some cool texturing features. For you who don't use or have never used Blender, it is the only freeware, opensource 3d package worth getting. Why pay $3000-6000 for a commercial package when Blender is better and free? It is relatively easy to use, massively powerful and the best freeware available ever. Go to http://www.blender3d.com and download it now. There are tutorials available on that site, a knowledge databse, and much more. Now onto the real topic, I was wondering just how many people actually use Blender and are proficient at it. I was also wondering if anyone would post any of their work in it (raw or post processed). I'll be posting some work soon, once I get used to the new features so watch out! cruiser1338
Vladmoney, you'll soon get used to it. I thought that first time I tried it, but it was only a matter of time. I've tried gMax before, and believe me, it is so much easier to have a built in renderer. Anyone wanna post some work?
ice_ring
im downloading it atm, and its only 4.3 mb is there some huge download coming after this that will take my 28.8k connection 2 years to download?
cruiser1338
Nope. One download, nothing else. I agree that Maya may seem easier to use, but Blender has endless potential. Anyone who can program, can add functionality, and anyone can download it. Plugins are so easy to write, because they use the Python system. The code is opensource so anyone who has a compatibility problem on their system, can have a programmer fix it. And it is totally free! If you can afford six grand for a 3D package, then by all means, go and waste it on Maya Unlimited (just 'cause you can't afford it, don't download an illegal copy). Otherwise, go get Blender! Wanna risk donwloading Maya illegally, go ahead and be arrested and sued. That's why Blender is perfect. Totally free, limitless potential, and it's equal to most of the packages out there.
