Just wondering if anyone out there knows how to make a bow and/or arrow. i heard that u have to get dry stick then bend it somehow, and use nylon and stuff for the string.

Don't use an elasticy spring also that just doesn't work, I think you are meant to get the power from the wood part not the string.

I dont know where you're getting your bamboo, but ive tried making some myself so I know they work.

 

 

 

The thing is, if the stick is too short, then there would be too much tension on the wood and it would certainly break in two. Plus if the wood is old then its much worse...

 

 

 

But if you still dont want to use it, then go get a plank of hardwood like oak or maple and wittle yourself a bow. Dont use softwood like pine though, they're not as flexible.

 

 

 

 

 

(though seriously, if you want a quick one made, just grab bamboo)

Any hardwood for the body, Leaf Spring and B50 Dacron / DynaFlight97 for the string. The firing mechanism is your call.

 

 

 

Bolts are also going to be trial and error if you have no existing examples to work from.

Burn who-ever wrote that article. They say nothing as to how to measure your string to fit for the specific material correctly. HUGE safey risk there.

 

 

 

With D50 it's ~12cm (4") less than the bow (messured along the inside of the bow), and about 3cm (1") less for DynaFlight.

Go and buy one. Too many risks involved with making your own.

go to a lake or something and get willow, there very bendy, great when you want to pull back lots :)

Not really. You just need to know what you've doing - which 3/4 of those "how to make a bow and arrow" fail to mention anything about. It's just "get a piece of wood, some string, tie it together and you're good" tells you nothing about draw, making your arrows to fit the bow, nothing.

a yew tree is irl 1 of the best tree for a bow the wood is very flexible and great for an selfmade bow for the arrows you could youse any spear like stick that doenst breka toe easy

Naa, i already tried that website, i came here because it was too confusing.

well im a boy scout and last summer at camp i took archery merit badge and one of the reqiurments was to make an arrow they gave us all the materials and tools theres special lue for putting on the feathers the feathers are held in place by a tool for a day so that it can dry completly the counseler gave us the option to sharpen the front or just but a metal cap as the head other then that i dont know much. yea thats all i remember

I made one in history class with just a stick and sinew. It isn't very hard.

It's easy. Cut down some normal, oak, willow, maple, yew, or magic logs and use them with your knife. Pick some flax and spin it to make a bowstring. Use the bowstring with the unstrung bow to make a bow.

Why would you waste bamboo when you can cut it on a diagonal to make a spear that would be infinitely more efficient?

 

 

 

Also, to add onto what Rick said, you will want to make sure that the wood and string as never left in any damp places for very long. You would also do well to make sure the wood won't splinter, because if you release an arrow and splintered wood suddenly contracts right under your hand, it could get nasty. Very nasty indeed.

 

 

 

If you want, you can also try using multiple layers of different types of wood and horn laminated together. Compound bows, I suppose, would be a right bother to make, but the extra punch and range would be well worth it.

 

 

 

A good guideline for arrows, particularly for larger bows, is the cloth-yard - two and a half feet, if I remember correctly.
