MySpace is censored as MySpace, but the banner ads on the forums contains content related to MySpace. Even has the word MySpace (not censored) in big neon green flashy letters.

I'll try to shed some light on this as best as I can

 

 

 

The site in question is censored on our forums for one reason , its all about personal information , which we do not allow so we cant likely allow our users to post their homepage links there , as it would be the same as letting them post personal information directly onto the forums.

 

 

 

As for the ads , they do not direct our users to the homepage of one of our specific users , or any other specific user. They are all for tools and downloads to make building your site easier, better, etc.. And as just about everyone on earth knows , thats pretty much the newest "craze", so we cant liekly stop our users from building these homepages.

 

 

 

I do agree that the censor is a bit of out of sorts , so i have adjusted it a bit so the word itself is not censored , only direct links. Theres no reason people cant DISCUSS myspace , as long as they do not try to link to their homepages

Any information posted containing IRL pictures, address or names will be removed on sight by the moderators... And the homepage field can contain many things, just because you have a website doesnt mean it tells irl info about yourself...

Hey, guess what Jeppe? In 3 minutes I can get Bubsa's RL name and photo, Nadril's real name, Mercifull's real name and photo, and Weezcake's photo, first name and highschool, just by visiting their homepages. These are all prominent community members and Weezcake is a moderator.

 

 

 

I don't advocate removing such information.. go google for any of their names and hey presto. It's just not realistic to remove such information when it's available with a simple username search on google..

Don't forget that for some people, if you do a whois on their domain, you can get a lot more than just their name.

You know my story and what happened to me a few years back, you should know better than anyone why i have the views on this that i do... Furthermore, do you want us to stop treating the community like children? Fine, but then you'd first have to convince me that we don't have any children, and that all of our users fully are aware of the dangers of posting such information on the internet, and that they are themselves responsible for any further things that happen...

Jeppe: no no no, I wasn't having a go at you or anything, I was just pointing out that the staff already has some leeway for personal information when they know the community member is older than the average tip.it-er. I fully support removing such information when the user isn't known to be old(er) (ie. if unknown user, remove.)

Personally i know the dangers. This is because i read a lot of new. You wouoldl have to do serious diggin to find my name. When I checked in 2005 there were no pictures of me irl. There is a pic of my school tho. Some people don't. The thing is that I can find pic of some of the mods here, their names, and what they like to do for a living. Well ok only one. I haven't tried the rest because I simply don't care. I just wanted to prove that it is possible to find information, but every bit of protection helps.
