October 4, 200619 yr There are two ways to train a skill, the fast(er) way and the slow(er) way. The fast way earns better exp, but wastes lots of money (a.k.a. power training). The slow way is bad exp, but it is good money (it's also usually more boring). Runescape is complex and addicting, but when it comes to gaining experience, almost every method gets its "difficulty" from being tedious and taking forever. Basically, the high scores list shows people's patience and persistence, but not their talent. Whenever Jagex releases a new feature that gives fast exp, people complain that it will make the game too easy for everyone and the high scores will become meaningless. What if, in several future updates, Jagex adds some methods to gain FASTER exp in some skills, but the methods are more difficult. They would require some more problem solving ability, or coordination for the actual player and have less to do with their character level. Some ideas: 1) In agility, a course should be added where you can control whether or not you fail the obstacles. Balancing on logs and narrow beams would be work like holding a grind in the Tony Hawk games. You need to work on your timing for other obstacles. The higher your agility level is, however, the easier it is to pass the obstacles. You would get extra exp for completing a lap without failing any obstacles, so it would only be excellent exp it you can handle it! 2)A thieving minigame could be added where you complete puzzles to disarm traps or open doors, find secret items, etc. There could be sliding tile puzzles, riddles, and many more. You would get exp for solving the puzzles, so obviously you could get better exp by solving the puzzles faster. 3)Change the ranging minigame in the ranging guild so that to actually hit the target and get a bullseye, you need to aim manually. Maybe add moving targets. 4)Add some rewards to the games rooms! :wall: Proud owner of a Quest cape!
October 4, 200619 yr Author I'm not suggesting that they take anything OUT of the game to make it more difficult for everyone (except the ranging minigame), but just add these features as an alternative for people up to the challenge! If anyone likes these ideas, be sure to show your support! Similar ideas are also accepted and i will add any ideas that i like to the first post (i will credit you for your ideas if you post them)! October 4, 200619 yr That could make the game more interesting, but that would require almost a completely new game. And it wouldn't be much of an rpg anymore. If there is ever a rs3, maybe jagex will do something like that. They wouldn't bother doing all that work without either under-doing it. Keeping the game basically as it is, except adding a couple things which you would go from the runescape as you see it, to sort of a minigame, perhaps first person. and back again when your finished. Or doing a complete overhaul like I said first. Don't be afraid your life will end, be afraid it will never begin.
October 4, 200619 yr Author i'm not asking for a complete overhaul, although, some of these ideas may not be possible on the current game engine. It would be nice if jagex just added some new skill based minigames. I like the games room, but there's simply no rewards for winning there, so no one bothers to go there. October 4, 200619 yr I see your point, but rs is a point and click game, and games like tony hawk have much better graphics and a better system based on being able to do these tricks. But... i think that a better system like that should be implemented for the fastest xp, especially with certain skills. The ranging mini game would work better like that, but i think that something that heightens the experience of the game would be better. For example, lets take a boring skill to train, like mining. Now, how could we make it harder... oh!!! I know, how about a very large area with hidden rocks where you actually have to prsopect the walls for veins of rock, and once you find one, you can mine it until it's gone! Wait a sec, thats a good idea, gotta remember that one:) But, making skill training areas that require more clicking and work should have a better reward, not just more xp, how about quick storage in mine carts in those mines or something. Think about it and revise your first post to show the kind of things you would do. \ Which FF Character Are You?"The only tyrant i accept in this world is the still voice within." - Mahatma Gandhi
October 6, 200619 yr yea, your stretching the potential of runescape here...if you did this, there'd literallly be no more updates for a couple months or years till a new game engine was released. Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it
October 6, 200619 yr i like the ideas, but aside from theiving and agility i dont really see how you could implement it in other skills and as sad before it just wouldnt be feasable for jagex to do [omg] who cares if its nerfed or fixed.... you people will argue over the color of a green apple if it was a topic on this fourm god.
October 6, 200619 yr Author i like the mining idea ephlin, and by the way, zyrm, i dont expect any of these things to come out soon, if at all, and the more advanced ideas would certainly not appear until rs3 comes out (IF it comes out). Jagex doesnt need to upgrade the engine to add skill to the game. Proud owner of a Quest cape!
October 9, 200619 yr An example that is sort of what you are talking about is Ali M's puzzle chests. While they didn't actually give you experience, they were difficult sudoku based puzzles that would give the advantage of cheap runes to the player that solved them. Personally I think this is a great idea and would work wonders on skills such as agility and thieving. The only problem, is some players might complain that the puzzles are too hard. I don't know what jagex would do then but other than that it is a great idea.
