Kinslayer777
Ello! I'm making (Putting together) my new computer i finally bought...Can you suggest any tests to stress componenents? I dont care for benchmarks particularly unless that's their purpose. I'm planning on 3mark by futurmark and memtest of course, are there others :)? Thanks! runesmithie
Not sure if there's anything there that would do this, but for heat testing I use Prime95+Everest (You can find copies of the free everest floating around if you look hard) I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. blade995
Prime95 is the best program to stress the cpu and ram. It's free too so just Google for the link. If you need to stress the graphics card and it's made by ATI you can download ATITool, it's also free and will overclock the graphics card and/or stress test it. I personally wouldn't use a stress test made by the same company that manufactured my card. If my GeForce4 mysteriously scored off the charts, and it was an NVIDIA stress test, I wouldn't be surprise. Also, don't OC a videocard. It's not worth the reduced life expectancy, and it kills any warantee you might have had. ...

Guest r3dh3adkid
Prime, OCCT are the best two. OCCT has this stress test mode that runs about 30 minutes where it trys to kill ur processor and if it stands it then it gives u a detailed report of what your temps were like for those 30 minutes. It monitors your HDD, case temp, ambient temp, processor temp, core temp. Prime is the best if u want a long term stress test. Run prime for about 12 hours to know its solid as a rock. Chris
CPU: I'm not sure how well it'd work with a dual core processor, but if you have a single core, running 'CPU Stability Test' from http://pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,7 ... ption.html for 24 hours would be my best option. If it runs that for 24 hours without rebooting then you know the processor is stable. Generally I liked to run it overnight on brand new computers that we had built. Obviously if it had reboot when we came in, I'd have just swapped out the processor or checked the heatsink/fan. Remember to set it to Hardcore in the options OCCT and Prime95 are also great programs, but I'd really only use them if I were overclocking. HDD: Never used it myself, but I found this on a Google search, 'MHDD 4.6' from here http://www.benchmarkhq.ru/english.html?/be_hdd.html - The homepage doesn't appear to be there anymore, but the download straight from the link above is working. You'll need a floppy drive and a spare floppy disk to use it though. RAM: Memtest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/#downiso would be your best bet in terms of testing and if you loop it, you could call it stressing. Can be downloaded and burned to a CD. GFX: Any demo version of 3DMark, depending on your card. If you have a high spec card, then try '05. If you have a high spec card with shader model 3.0 try out '06. If your card is mid-ranged, go for '03 and last of all, if your card isn't really for gaming, try '01. Just go into the options and let it loop. In my opinion these are the only parts you need to stress as they're the ones that create the most heat. Have fun with testing, to be honest I don't see the point in it anymore. If there's a problem, I'll find it sooner rather than later anyway. : Notoriously Trollish.
Kinslayer777
:-) Thanks, i'll do memtest since memory seems the least obvious (If my case is glowing red and white i can tell the cpu is bad...) I'll also test the card for the heck since i'd want to send saphire rma Asap since saphire sucks for rma and newegg will only do for 30 days, and the cpu...I'll have to hope :)
