October 13, 200619 yr I hope I can explain what I'm looking for clearly (I have tried to in the past and people usually misunderstand). I'm eternally looking for a simple media player that is based on folder/directory structure rather than clip info. I organize all my music under genre/artist/album on my hard drive (whether the song is ripped or downloaded). I would like to be able to just navigate to a folder and play all songs in that folder. I want to see file names, not clip info. The reason for this is a lot of ripped stuff is local bands (no clip info available...gets labeled as unknown) and downloaded stuff always has so many variations (for example: Mars Volta, The Mars Volta, marsvolta, mars volta) and I hate changing clip info. Besides, if I already have gone to the effort of organizing the files, why should I have to modify clip info? I currently use Real player and have tried all the other major players (I think) and all the "Organizer" or "My Library"s simply show media based on clip info. In the "Clips" pane, there is a column for filename, but not a way to see hard drive folder/directory structure in the "Organizer" or "My Library" pane. Anyone know of a player with this capability? TIA, Phil
October 13, 200619 yr winamp. You can set it to show the name, artist, or file name. You can also use features like "add directory" and play anything in that directory... my music is in D:/music so I could say play everything in there, or I could pick a specific artist, like D:/music/John Lennon, and play everything in that folder. There are a lot of nice features with winamp, and there are a surplus of addons as well. If you do you get winamp, and you bored, I suggest downloading the milkdrop pluggin, it's a visualization plugin that can't compare to any default ones inclued with WA or WMP. Winamp also comes and works with a vast array of codecs, and it's free :P http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php ...
October 13, 200619 yr Author I downloaded latest Winamp in hopes that there was something added for what I want. Either I'm missing something or you misunderstood me. In the Winamp "Library" pane, I see categories for "Local Media", with "Audio" under it, but then everything is displayed based on clip info, not hard drive folders. What I want is a option in the library pane that looks like the left-hand pane of windows explorer. Like this:
October 13, 200619 yr Musicmatch Jukebox has an interface similar to that of a windows explorer.. although it comes with alot of crap on the side (radio, on demand, store) type of stuff.
October 14, 200619 yr **** the library, just click add and use "Directory" that uses the windows explorer directly... ...
October 14, 200619 yr I personally don't know of any players that do this. It's probably because using strictly folders and file names to organize your files is extremely limited. That was the whole point in adding ID3 tags to mp3 files, so you could catalouge them beyond the file sytem. I seriously suggest you just tag them, even if it takes a while. You'll thank yourself later when you can filter and sort in a media library instead of digging through folders all the time. :?
October 14, 200619 yr i use realplayer on my slow pc (550mhz) i can listen music, play runescape on high detail on the same time... wow....
October 20, 200619 yr an alternative would be to download media monkey. it will set the tags on the song depending on what folder it is in, then you can use any program to play just one artist or whatever whats a signature?
October 20, 200619 yr I recommend media monkey, it's good (although i never used it for more then testing... i dont need it) Real one player or One real player or whatever the **** it's called now is aweful aweful program that i've vowed never to use agan. TERRIBLE uncaring arrogant creators.
October 20, 200619 yr yea, real player is borderline spyware/malware IMO, whenever I see it on my sister's / grandma's / aunt's computers I remove it. ...
