Viktorkrum77
Well, I'm new to PhotoShop. And I can't find this in the 'help' section. And it is easy too, but I'm a noob to it. I have a picture of a person, I spent a half an hour moving away the background using the magic wand tool and move tool, than touching it up in paint (I'm sure there was an easier way to do that #-o). Now I have the person against a one color background. I want to implement a background to replace the orange color it is now. How do I do this? How can I cut the person? He also has two holes, around his arms, how do I put background in these to match the background of the rest of the pciture? Does my question make sense? Me doing staff. Viktorkrum77
I'm lost. How do I make layers? I have a picture, I want to upload it as a background. Sort of like a green screen. The magic wand has no erase option. I'm completly lost, PhotoShop is so confusing.... Me doing staff.
xvillexvalox
I'll try to help, and get some screenshots for you.
Vito_Blade
Ya, photoshop is confusing. Holdon, I will try to help. Though I think xvill's screens are going to help more, meh. EDIT: Here we go. 1. Create a new image (preferably 800x600 or the size of your background picture). 2. Load the background image on to the blank canvas. 3. Create another new image 4. Load the person/thing you want to put infront of your background onto this new image. 5. Okay, it should have some stuff that you dont want (IE. you want the person, not the bushes/trees/benches/etc around him). 6. Okay, you are now going to erase eveything you don't want. You will want to use this tool: 6b. Select this: Use whatever brush size you feel is neccesary. 6c. Now, go to your picture with the person/chair/whatever you are trying to put ontop/infront of the background. 6d. Move your curser over the the part of the image you don't want. Right click and hold it down. Drag it around selecting what you don't want. Notice I have almost everything that I don't want (I want the person) selected. 7. Once its all selected it should look like this: Notice that I was not very careful selecting him. I did not get some of his tux and some of his hair, I am rushing this if you are careful it won't look like this. 7c. One last thing, hit Invert (Ctrl+Shift+I). 8. We are now ready to put him on your background image! 8b. Copy (Ctrl+C) or Cut (Ctrl+X). You now have him either cut or copied. 8c. Switch images (go from your person/chair/thing you selected to your background image). 9. Hit paste (Ctrl+V). 10. Your image should now look like this: 11. Save and you are done! Though it seems a extremly long process, it really is not. I tried to make even the excrutiatingly obvious a step. And yes, PS is complecated. Hope it helps! Viktorkrum77
This is what I've figured out. 1. Set background layer. 2. Use magic wand 3. Select layer mask>hide selections. Now all I need is uploading the actual image, and the arm holes. So, maybe that helps a little with knowing where I am? Now I discovered 'fill layer', but there is no upload image button. xvillexvalox
hmm... now after that post I'm not sure I know what you're doing but, here goes nothing. (I have Photoshop 7.0, but controls should be near the same) The 3 things circled are the magic wand, eraser tool ,and the layers tab. 1. Copy your backround image... 2. paste it on the picture of your person. 3. in the layers section, flip layer 1 and 2 so 1 is on top of 2 and it appears that nothing has changed since before the paste. 4. Select magic wand tool 5. Turn OFF Contiguous so that it will select all the orange. 6. now use your eraser to erase everything the magic wand selected, and the layer underneath will appear. Vito_Blade
Okay to upload the image (I am using elements, it should be semi-familier to this). Go to File>Save for web> Select your file type> save/ok button. Then upload it. And the armhole thing should be explain partially with the semi-tut I made. Viktorkrum77
I understand everything, except I have no idea how to copy the background file. I right click, and nothing. BTW I greatly appreciate your help. =D> Me doing staff.
Vito_Blade
Heh, PS doesn't do it that way (VERY annoying to new users, pain to figure out) either use the Ctrl+ keys or use the Edit menu up top. (Next to File). EDIT: Oh... I see what you are talking about. Hit Ctrl+A It will copy everything. THEN Cut/copy. Viktorkrum77
Well this is the turn out: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a311/TheMaskedMan52/janbackgroundphotobucket.jpg Literaly took hours to make. That's a complicated process. Thanks everyone!! =D> The pic is of our player from Europe who is living with us currently (like a foreign exchange program, but here to play hockey). He is drafted to Red Wings. Incase you were wondering. BTW to erase the original background of the picture, is there a simpler way than to magic wand each part and move it out of the way, than touch it up and erase all the scraps in paint? Also, is there anyway to blend? Me doing staff.
Vito_Blade
Glad you figured it out! Can't help you with the blending question, still figuring that out myself. "We'll bring the sexy back to judging >_>." --Nadril Bleh, once I get off my lazy bum and go to Imageshack, there will be a picture here. Liquid_Morph
Just get the Eraser tool and just get rid of it all yourself. Using large soft brushes for large areas that need to be erased and smaller sized soft brushes erasing for smaller parts and then carefully zoom in and erase carefully the last bits that hang around the edges of the render to be careful you don't go onto it yourself, then use the smudge tool and smudge slightly the edge of the render so it blends but not too much that it ruins it. Works like a charm.
Viktorkrum77
Hey, I almost got this. But I'm having trouble. How do I switch the layers? I can't just drag them. Me doing staff.
pryomancer
You should be able to drag them. Make sure they aren't locked (a little padlock symbol next to them). And there will be a black line that appears below the layer you want to drag it to, make sure that is there and you should be able to drag.
