Elessar3019
Is the dragon fire breath considered a ranged attack or a mage attack? I am asking because, if it is mage, then using protect from mage prayer will allow me to range it while not wielding a anti-dragon shield and not get hit by the dragon's melee. perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is anotherAMEN! twr_phr33k
Non. Dragonbreath is dragonbreath. Nothing related to the three combat types.

I am asking because, if it is mage, then using protect from mage prayer will allow me to range it while not wielding a anti-dragon shield and not get hit by the dragon's melee. Green, Blue, Red and Black Dragon's Fire Breath do not have a range, they are only employed when they are melee'ing you, so Ranging them from a safespot will be safe enough. However, KBD and Metal dragon's have a ranged fire breath, making them completely unsafe-spottable. Shields and Pot must be used in these cases. 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills. Elessar3019
OK, thanks, this will help me in both Slayer and general training. I'm trying to get the dragon drops from them, and not being toasted will greatly improve my chances. :D perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is anotherAMEN! X_Seismic_X
Remember to stick on protect mage or wield an anti dragonshield if you go to pick up a drop though

Fishermanken
I believe only missle attacks are considered ranged and dragonbreath is in no way a missle and is therefore magic. chenw
I believe only missle attacks are considered ranged and dragonbreath is in no way a missle and is therefore magic. There are ranged Firebreath and they are still considered mage attack. In fact Magic Attacks are very often missile attacks too (only a few none ranged attacks are actually fully mage based, firebreath being one of them) 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills.
