Ok well I played Runescape on this computer for about 2 years at the end of RSC and the first year and a half of rs2 and then I got my parents cpu and used that for the last 3ish years. Runescape ALWAYS ran good on this computer when I used to play on it. I now live on my own and I once again am using this computer. I have high speed cable internet and everything runs perfect except Runescape. I tried everything on the RS website to try and fix my problem. I switched to sun java.

The game runs smooth for like 3-5 seconds then it will like freeze- or lag for like 5-10 seconds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The computer is an old e machines pentium 3 with Windows 2000. I know some will say buy a new cpu but Im in college and I cant really afford plus EVERYTHING runs fine on this cpu... If anyone can help me fix this problem Id appreciate it greatly

I believe you really should upgrade your CPU, they don't cost THAT much. And plus, I wouldn't bet on your current CPU running DOOM3 today or tommorow.

I never stopped playing. I just stopped playing on this computer and I stopped playing on this computer in July 04... Where does it say how much ram the cpu has?

He specifically said not to tell him that. And yes, upgrading something so seemingly simple is a major problem for a college student. He's running a P3, you physically can't find chips to use for an "upgrade" on a system that old. Upgrading the CPU means updating his entire system.

The first tab (The "general" tab) that opens should display the operating system version, your CPU name and speed, along with how much ram you have. Just taking a screenshot of that tab would be easiest. :mrgreen:

But, to fix any potential virus, antispyware, clogged registry, the forces of entropy on an OS- reformatting works. The windows key/Certificate of Authenticity and windows install disks/floppies are neccesary though.

No offence kin, but thats the dumbest advice I've ever heard. First telling him to disable any anti-virus softeware / not install it - and then to tell him to just reformat every time something goes wrong? Thats so dumb... it takes a lot of time just to format depending on the size of the harddrive, then we have to reinstall windows... drivers, boat loads of software, windows updates, anti-virus and anti-spyware software... the list goes on. Beleive me, I have a friend who lost his windows key, so he has to reformat every 30 days. Not fun...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And though it would fix the problem of no longer having a virus... guess what? If it were a keylogger, it wouldnt matter... they'd already have your password because you had nothing to stop them from getting it, and by the time you get your computer back up they'd prolly have taken every last cake from your bank account.

-Every so often, for my old computer, i would get a mash up of junk. Unneccesary files, install-unistall-not everything gets unistalled. And of course even with paid programs some spyware is probably hiding around. EVERY-SO-OFTEN perhaps every two-three years reformatting can help by starting from scratch. Just remember you need some way to backup essential things.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The issue wasn't whether he had a keylogger, it was resource use. Some junk probably accumulated. I didnt mean to convey the message that you shouldnt run any antivirus, and should install reformat ever few weeks to start over :D Lol sorry.
