AVG & Antiviral Progs

Hi. I have 2 questions. Does AVG have any Anti-spyware free programs. If they do can you provide a link, I already googled it. Also, what anti-virus/spyware programs do you recommend (free or worthy price). I have CCleaner, AVG Free, avast! home, Ad-Aware, and ZoneAlarm free. I recently uninstalled my Norton and my Webroot SpySweeper expired, and I don't plan on renewing them. People say they have no problems with Norton and they never get a virus with it, but they usually base this on Norton scan results, & Norton will pick up viruses about 2% of the time. Webroot's SS just took waaaaaaay too long to scan. Should I get SpyBot S&D?

err are both Avast and AVG runnning at the same time?

If it is then you'll get conflicts - just stick with AVG and uninstall avast.

I've never had any problems with Ad-aware and spybot together. so get both of them.

You might also want to think about trying windows defender. It worked for me when spybot + ad-aware couldn't remove some junk.

spybot's license:

I. Freeware

First of all, the reasons why Spybot-S&D is free:

That should be enough.

Hitman pro is freeware, though it bundless some shareware/trials too.

Lavasoft Ad-aware is free.

Windows defender:

Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected and minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive. Now with 2 free support incidents for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

I tried installing windows defender. When I try to open the installer, it says I need Windows Service Pack 2. I went to the microsoft site to download the SP2 and told me to download it via automatic updates. I ran the updater and restarted my pc but windows defender still tells me to install SP2.

Try running it again, see what you download. You cant update from just basic xp to having all updates in one go.

I fail to see why not though :(

If you hadn't installed SP2 untill today, you have A LOT more updates to install. It will take another 2 or 3 trips to windows update to get them all because of required restarts.

For the record...AVG has spyware remover too...but to get the 'active support' you need to pay for it :)

Like ad-aware.

It's good in addition to ad-aware/spybot because it catches things they dont. Slower scan though.

Formally known as Ewido Antispyware, very well trusted.
