There is no shading.Line work is terrible, Default colors. Bad anatomy. You copied the mermaids and gave them different colors? Come on.

 

 

 

The tree doesnt look nice, though he doesnt have black outlines, thats a plus.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And last but not least, do those mermaids float in midair? I mean, what the hell.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Id say never post your first. It usually looks like crap and youll be C/C blasted to smithereens.

Alright. Shading is adding a lighter or a darker tone to it, so it looks more 3-D. And try to use the sun as a lightsource where the lighter tones should be.

so your saying the left side of the mermaids should be lighter colours should slowly blend to a darker colour?

Take a look at this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's made by MisterXMan. Then take a look at your own. Do you see any difference? In Xmans sig you can see how the colors change many times in one place. It's called shading. Wich part is away from the Lightsource is darker.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, take a look at the shape of the characters. Do you see any difference? Your characters are made with line tool. The're squared. Then Xmans; it's made by free hand. It's rounded. It's more realistic.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And take a look in details. You just have 'water', 'island', 'mermaids' and the 'sun'. Then watch Xmans. You can find tens of details. Just watch it...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And finally, don't use default colors.

ok, see now thats more helpful than "no" I see what you mean. I'll draw it on paper and plan it properly and do the tutorials and then I'll do it on the computer :) and thanx Misterxman, because it help runemesta help me :o

You need to make it look like the mermaids are actually in the water. So cut one in half around the middle, and make the water look disturbed where she floats.
