Geadas
Hello, when i try to connect to runescape, when it starts loading it stops at "connecting to update server". After a while it shows: Error_game_js5connect - Unable to connect to update server. Runescape was unable to connect to the update server. This is most likely caused by a firewall blocking the connection. To resolve this: # If you have firewall or security software installed please ensure RuneScape/Java is allowed to open outgoing network connections on ports 43594. # Note Windows XP Service Pack 2 has built in firewall software. If when loading RuneScape this asks if you want to allow the connection, you need to say 'yes'. # If that doesn't help then an external firewall may be causing the problem. Please ask your network adminstrator/ISP to open port 43594 for TCP traffic. If problems persist then please refer to our technical FAQ which can be found in the FAQ section of our website. What is the problem here? Maybe somebody had the same problem and knows what to do? Please help me, I just got internet connection at home and cannot play the game I like most... :(
Blacknova
What kind of computer do you have? DSL/Cable/56k Windows XP/2000/ME/98/95 Are you running any firewall software at all? Zone Labs firewall, BlackICE, etc.? Thanks for the additional info.
peterbluer
I think I know what it is. Do you have JavaScript enabled, cause you might have been one of the people who tried getting a link for themselves.
Geadas
I have Windows XP proffesional, I have java too, I don't have any firewalls installed.. Do you think this problem could be solved without network administrator efforts? I saw the same problem in official runescape forums, but there were no good suggestions to make it out. Blacknova
If you have just the normal firewall working, I would tell you to try to re-run network setup. Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>Communications>>Network Setup Wizard 1. Click Next twice 2. If you have DSL/Cable, click on 'Other' and click Next 3. Click Next three times (default input) 4. You should be on 'File and Printer Sharing' - click next again (off by default). 5. Click Next again. 6. Choose 'Just finish the wizard...' and click next. 7. Click Finish If it changes something, you may be asked to reboot - you need to reboot before you see any changes. If that does not work, post back again and we'll try something else. Geadas
The problem persists, it didn't help. Thank you for helping me. Do you have other ideas?
Blacknova
You may want to try to clean out your browser cache - I'm going to assume you are using Internet Explorer. Tools>>Internet Options>>Delete Files (check the box too)>>Ok Now, reset your browser settings From the Internet Options box, click the Advanced tab, and choose 'Restore Defaults', click 'Apply' and 'Ok' Restart once again, see if that helps. darkblade986
If you don't have administrative privledges on your computer, there is a distinct possibility that this is the cause. I'm pretty sure that Runescape saves its data cache in the WINDOWS folder somewhere, so it may be possible that as a non-administrator to your computer, you are not allowed access to change/add/delete files in there. Note: Runescape saves most files (that I can see) to C:\WINDOWS\.file_store_32. If my theory was correct, then this is the exact reason why it wouldn't work. However it it was working before hand, then you would need to talk to someone about firewalls and stuff, because I would have no clue about them. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
