Big Problem

Recommended Posts

I'm beaten. I installed new drivers. Restarted numerous times. Ran antivirus and anti-spyware. No unnecessary background processes.

And yet, even while I write this, the keyboard misses keystrokes, generally lags, and if I even attempt playing a game, it will lag horribly (and make a bleeping noise). If I press down any key or say, write email while listening to music, the music simply tilts until I stop writing.

Just pressing down any key shoots up the CPU usage by 40%. By writing fast the CPU usage goes to 100%. Connected to PS2 port by the way, not USB.

Just yesterday it worked fine? Any ideas?

I've had this before. I believe it was something to do with the keyboard buffer having problems. I don't remember how I fixed it I'm afraid, but perhaps googling for keyboard buffer would yield some results and at least set you off in the right direction.

Thanks a lot 8-) I found out with process explorer that "hardware interrupts" is taking up 95% of the CPU power. 'Keyboard buffer' unfortunately just brought up some age-old programming related threads on google. Still no idea what to do..

Are you able to try either that keyboard on another machine or another keyboard on that machine?

Also, since this is more advanced a problem than your typical "omg i got haked, have i got a keylogger???" thread, I'd suggest you post on a more specialised forum - ocforums.com or forums.anandtech.com for example. There's a much higher chance of someone knowing how to fix it there.

I would try another keyboard, like Parabola said. I had a problem with my old ps2 keyboard -- I found out that the port was fried.

And remember, your computer needs to be off before you plug/unplug a ps2 device. :)

1) If you havent already, try a new keyboard.

2)

Well I did hardware acceleration slow down, if you dont know how heres how you do: Right click empty Windows desktop and select Properties from the pop up menu.

ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâ÷ In Display Properties window that appears, click Settings tab.

ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâ÷ Check the Colors or Color Quality setting. Select the lowest setting that is still acceptable for your purposes, e.g. 256 colors, 8 bits per pixel or the Medium Quality (also called High Color), 16 bits per pixel. Higher color settings will also work, but not as fast.

ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâ÷Now click the Advanced button, and in another ... Properties window that appears, click the Troubleshoot tab.

ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâ÷Move the Hardware Acceleration ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâàslider all the way to None , then click OK button in both windows.

Ok your screen will go black for a minute. Then will pop-up again, I dont know if it will work though :(

but worth a try eh? :-s

I doubt it will work though, everyone else has a different idea.

And this computer is quite new so I doubt the PS2 port is fried, I'll prob just buy a new USB one.

Hmm, that's very weird. When I now right click 'properties' on desktop, I don't get any of the tabs. Too strange...

Zaafara: I'm 100% positive it can't be a keylogger because I haven't downloaded just about anything since I switched to the new KB

Go figure.. It magically fixed itself . If anybody has a similar problem, feel free to PM me and ask for instructions. I did change quite a few settings such as the keyboard buffer size as correctly mentioned by Parabola. Locking...
