emoryarts
Having some trouble defeating the boss. I've read the guidelines on what you should do & I'm following it perfectly. I'm only concentrating on the scarab boss, no the rangers/mage. I've got loads of food/prayer pots/att & def pots, and use protection from melee. I wore my ghostly outfit to help protection against the mage but the archers still get me. I've died twice without hardly putting a dent on the scarab. Any other hints/secrets to defeating this monster and knocking out this quest?

Berrakus
You just have to kill him as quickly as possible. When the helpers start showing up, you have 3 attack types hitting you for 20+ damage per hit. Once this happens, you don't have much of a chance. So you want to take a Super Attack, Super Strength, and the best strength enhancing armor you got. Go right after him, eat when you have to, and use a 1-click tele device (like an ectophial), in case you can't finish him off. Sjakie_1_1_3
Use MAGE! The boss has no mage defence at all. 10 to 15 high lvl mage attacks and it's dead. The boss is a walkover with mage. Hmmm, with that info this quest should be a cakewalk when I do it now. Thanks. joke_slayer
i found it easier protecting from melee, with rune armour, killing the mages as soon as they spawn
EvilTexan
Use MAGE! The boss has no mage defence at all. 10 to 15 high lvl mage attacks and it's dead. The boss is a walkover with mage. I'm having trouble too and need advice. I've fought the scarab boss once but went through about 10 tuna potatoes while doing about 20% damage to the boss, so ecto'd outta there. I'm 93 combat (74 att, 68 str, 78 def) wearing black dhide with mystic boots, obby cape, fury ammy and mirror shield to max on the magic defense while affording some melee protection. I melee with whip with prot melee on. One thing I did wrong is wasnt' expecting the fight, so before I got the chance to pray and quaff I was in it, with all 3 or 4 attackers. So it was pray, right-click-select-attack (I HATE that about RS GUI), drink super pot, ...-attack, eat, ...-attack, drink super pot, etc. while getting 19's and 21's hit on me. Next time I'll pot up, of course. What else should I be doing / wearing? And what's this "defender" that ppl refer to? Is it easier to mage? I'm 86 mage but no ancients. Can do Charged Sara Strike, but it's a manual spell, as opposed to a staff suto-spell. Thanks!
Yohbilleh
I did this quest yesterday. I wore lunar with Black dhide chaps and fire blasted him with melee prayer. I didnt have much of a problem with it, just ate the food when i needed.
Cryptogram
Protect from melee, black d hide and anything else that boosts str or att. Super set and melee the boss with whip or at least d scimitar. Ignore the mager and ranger. Take lots of good food (shark or better). If you're one of these players that has a low defence level because you subscribe to the idea that it does nothing, expect a hard time. Don't follow me. You might not make it.All your accounts are belong to us now.If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator
EvilTexan
Excellent advice, wear black dhide, pray melee and either melee or mage the boss. With my stats, am I better off using whip or maging? I'm 93 combat (74 att, 68 str, 78 def) and 86 mage. P.S. I do believe in DEF! 8-) And should I ignore the other monsters, or follow the advice of the person who said to knock off the others as soon as they spawn? Thanks again! bobbaldrick
I remember killing him at around 95 combat, I followed the guide using melee and it was a very close fight. I remember I used all my food and got down to like 20 hp. It sounds like its much easier to mage him from the comments above, probably best to get ahrims to limit damage from the other creatures. crow
I maged him back when I had like 60 mage
EvilTexan
It sounds like its much easier to mage him from the comments above, probably best to get ahrims to limit damage from the other creatures. Maging the boss. Is there a place to stand where he can't melee me? If I don't have Ahrims, what do you recommend? Assuming I have the usual non-Barrows armor, how should I dress? For maging, I take it the super att and super str don't apply. I'll take a mage pot. What else? I can get a set of splitbark easily (I have the fc and bark), if that's the best. Separate Q: If I can only barely afford Guthans, which I plan to buy soon, should I be shelling out another $1.5mil for a set of Ahrims? In your opinion, what's the best Barrows set to get (beyond this quest) and why? THanks!
