greenslime89
Needles don't hurt as much as they look, but HELL NO!! I'm sorry to all you people out there about to die because of my shallowness. :-w The needle is pretty big. My sister has given blood a few times and the first time, she had to stop half way through as she went really white and was, as knives669 said, light headed. So they whipped the needle out and started giving her lots of fluids and sugar. I will be giving blood when I'm old enough as my mum needed a few blood transfusions and my dad would have died after the car crash if blood wasn't available. So I think it's a good idea to give blood. What's a few minutes of pain plus a few days of discomfort compared to someone losing a loved one because people were too afraid to give blood. Go on! Save a life! Photos!
Panix
Back when I was in college, I gave blood every time they came. The funny thing is I was partying with pain killers every weekend and still gave blood and never heard any complaints. Now that I have a different administration method of partying, I can't give anymore. :\ The only difference is I could put the needle in my arm myself instead of having to have someone else do it :P Even before now, it never was bad. The only advice I can give people is to make sure you're hydrated. When I went to give blood a couple times, it was a very long and drawn out process because my body was dehydrated and so it took a long time to drain. Also, if a nurse decides to start 'digging' for a vein with the needle in your arm, tell her to stop. That kind of stuff causes vein damage and hurts like hell. I don't even do that to myself Always have her pull out and retry. A hot compress will decrease the bruising afterwards and helps your blood flow. If you really want to give and still are skeptical, you can always ask for a smaller gauge needle. May take longer but I doubt you'd feel it. The bigger the number, the smaller the size. 30 gauge, 1/2" is what I personally use. I gave blood last September at my school. They didn't bring an RV though, they set up everything in our small gym. I have very good veins and it didn't them any time to spot my vein. I chose to do it for a few reasons: 1. I like the adrenaline rush you get from the needle going inside of you 2. Getting out of Math class 3. 2 hours of community service for my AP government paper =D I also got a t-shirt :) Based on the underlined text, I hope you never become a needle junkie. :-$ Panix - /server -j #runescape irc.efnet.org-NOT EVEN DOOM MUSIC
heart_of_ink
I've never given blood, and probably never will. Not a big fan of needles. And how... likewise for me. There's no sig here. Move it along...
knives669
^_^ There's no need to be scared of needles, everyone! Conquer your fear and donate blood! C'mon. Sometimes you even get a neat T-shirt out of the deal... or a coffee mug! And you get out of class! Next time, I will make sure I'm not dehydrated so I don't suffer any complications. And yes, my arms are pale. :P
