February 15, 200719 yr Well, if all christians where chasing after me. So far for this thread the two potential "bad" people you described were white people and Christians... Why is it ok to say bad stuff about those two classes of people but to do so against other classes is considered bad form? Political correctness is loaded with tons of discriminating... not necessarily all being good forms of it. Please, please do not start about poltical correctness. The mere fact you bring this into it you assume i am prejudice against white people and christians. When I myself am white. It's an example, if you wish. Muslims where chasing me! My personal opinion of them would change because they where attempting to kill me. I wouldn't assosiate with anyone who would be trying to kill me, but i guess thats just common sense. That is the point I was trying to make. Sometimes discriminating is a good and healthy thing because something is potentially dangerous and we need to be able to label it as that for our benefit and safety. Bad forms of discrimination are based off disliking people for no logical reason. That is wrong. You see, the thing is that if you have a logical reason for prejudging a race like "They wish me dead, and if they see me will sacrifice me to their God" avoiding them is not discrimination because discrimination is having no logical reason. I have a logical reason for avoiding that race and so will. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

February 15, 200719 yr ...That they will murder me. You are generalizing there. Such blatant prejudice unless this is sarcasm...
February 15, 200719 yr If all Christians where trying to murder me, why would assuming that they where going to murder me be discrimination? I beleive thats something you call common sense. February 15, 200719 yr Author If all Christians where trying to murder me, why would assuming that they where going to murder me be discrimination? I beleive thats something you call common sense. I'll tell you why: Discrimination: treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit So I'm confused by your stance after reading your conversation with Ambassador. Please clarify this for me: Is discrimination always bad?
February 15, 200719 yr It's the same, if all black people wanted me dead then I would avoid all black people. Thats not discrimination thats having a logical reason to avoid them. In the states eyes, yes. In my eyes, I would have to agree and say yes, because discrimination is having no logical reason. So, it's really just acting on a stupid prejudice. In my eyes, I would have to agree and say yes, because discrimination is having no logical reason. So, it's really just acting on a stupid prejudice. This is ridiculous. You continue to presume that only one state, and one state's principle's exist. Quit doing that. Maybe I should go through the thread and count how many times I've told you to quit doing that. Wait - in your eyes discrimination is always bad? That's an absolute. Contradiction! Maybe I should count how many times you've contradicted yourself as well.
February 15, 200719 yr Whats is your point? I beleive discrimination to be bad. How dare I? I don't care whether it's subjective. I beleive it is bad in my opinion. This is all about ONE state. I don't care about another states principles, that state has nothing to do with anything. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. This is all about ONE state. I don't care about another states principles, that state has nothing to do with anything. My point is that you don't believe in absolutes, but you believe discrimination to be bad. That's been my entire point for this entire thread. Your belief about discrimination is contradictory to the rest of your beliefs. If you believe everything to be subjective, and discrimination to be always bad, then you are making universal statements. Just because you say it's only about ONE non-existent state doesn't exempt your universal beliefs from being universal.
February 15, 200719 yr Just because I beleive in subjective morailty does not say that I myself can't form an opinion of what is bad. Discrimination (acting on prejudice and having no logical reason) will for me, always be bad. Whether discrimination is not bad for the guy standing next to me doesn't mean i can't hold such opinion. Whether it be wrong or not. Lets start here as all we are doing is going around in circles. Firstly it assumes this: Harm is justification to be banned, offence is not, and that liberty is neccessary to find truth. This also assumes society would respect such freedom and live within this state. Harm is defined as: to do or cause harm to injure or damage. Offence is defined as: a violation or breaking of a social rule. Liberty is defined as: freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control. The state I wish to live in is one which takes the individual to be sovereign for the sole purpose of finding truth, and adopts Mill's harm principle as a tool to help society judge what is harmful to society and what is not. If something does not harm society, it can't be banned. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. February 16, 200719 yr It's the same, if all black people wanted me dead then I would avoid all black people. Thats not discrimination thats having a logical reason to avoid them. What if only 95% of them wanted you dead?

February 16, 200719 yr It's the same, if all black people wanted me dead then I would avoid all black people. Thats not discrimination thats having a logical reason to avoid them. What if only 95% of them wanted you dead? I would still have a good reason to avoid them. Hell, I would avoid a race if 1% wanted me dead. It's still logical to avoid someone when the chance that they will kill you is 1/100. A minority of priests had sex with boys. The priests can't be trusted! Proud founder of the Myriad
February 16, 200719 yr I wouldn't send my children to Church anyway. By forcing them to geneflect to my own beliefs I am impinging on their liberty. Communism is not fit for humans. We are not good enough for it. Tip.It is officially Red. o.0

If there where 100 people in a race, and I knew one of them wanted to murder me. I'd stay away from them. Discrimination is acting on prejudice, prejudice is acting on a a beleif that you are superior to someone without a logical reason. The fact talking to this person could mean a 1/100 chance they'd kill me counts as a logical reason. It would be different in real life since a 1/3 Billion chance would change things. If you are really serious about avoiding people that have a slight chance of killing you, then avoid objects that can kill you and stop using electrical appliances, stop swimming anywhere, stop driving/riding in a car, stop eating any food that you didn't grow yourself, never go within 100 meters of a smoker, etc, etc, etc. Sorry if you think I'm way off, but avoiding something just because 1% of it wants to/can kill you is pessemistic to me.
February 17, 200719 yr Would you go up to a person knowingly that there was a definate 1/100 chance he could murder you? February 17, 200719 yr Would you go up to a person knowingly that there was a definate 1/100 chance he could murder you? See, now you're turning this into something else entirely. No, I most likely wouldn't go up to that person that has a chance of murdering me but just because one black male is a murdurer does not mean I would avoid the whole culture. You should take every individual on face value, not just make blanket statements like I'm going to avoid all of culture 'x' just because an overwhelming minority could harm me.

But Sorry if you think I'm way off, but avoiding something just because 1% of it wants to/can kill you is pessemistic to me. Thats a 1% chance. It's exactly the same. 100 Black people, 1 was out to murder you, It's a logical reason to stay away from that race, it's not because they are black or i feel i am superior too them. It's because there is a pretty good chance i could be killed it has nothing to do with what race they are. By the way, this is hypothetical, i don't stay away from black or any type of race. It would be the same if I was left alone in a room of 100 blond girls, and one was out to murder me. I'd stay away from them because it's logical to do so. I don't think you know what discrimination is really. What's not logical about what I said? You'd avoid all blacks because a minority steal. I see the logic perfectly. Because this is a hypothetical argument, and we are talking about murder not theft. And there are Billions of black people, not 100 and the odds of a black person wanting to kill me is not 1/100. That statement has nothing to do with anything i said, and now you are attempting to put words in my mouth.
