Too much censoring on TV?

I think kids SHOULD be "exposed" to all this stuff.

Personally, I've been watching R movies since I was very young, hearing curse words, knowing about a lot of things. I've known about drugs, alcohol, sex, and plenty of details about all of them for much longer than most of my peers.

I mean seriously. If anything, it lets kids deal with things over time...

And guess what? I'm not going crazy because I just discovered alcohol or drugs, I'm not screwing every girl because I finally discovered I have genitalia yesterday, and I'm not cursing up a storm because I just figured out these words get reactions out of people. As a matter of fact, I almost never curse, I never drink/drugs, and I'm a pretty decent guy (if I do say so myself).

Let kids know. They will someday. Proper parenting will ensure that kids can "deal with" such real world topics in a mature way...

Not to mention war and killing is so often put on TV...why can't they curse?

*sigh* I've never liked censorship.

Obviously you don't know much about kids. You may be an exception, but kids are renowned for "monkey see, monkey do." If they see it, then generally they'll do it, so its going to increase violence and abusive language letting kids be influenced by bad language and violence at a young age. They say (scientific researchers) the most influential part of a persons life is between something like 4-13 years (roughly) so being exposed to such things at that age isn't going to do the person any favors later on in life. That's why good parenting is so important.

Not if the parents are smart enough to tell them not to say that stuff / ect. early on, trust me; say you said 'what the hell' when you are young and your parents tell you not to, it leaves a mark.

I know many people with similar stories to gonpost's and they're perfectly fine.

Then why in anyones right mind would you allow your kids to see stuff like that, if you're just going to tell them not to do it. And just because a parent tells them not to do it, most of the times, especially if they've seen it (i.e on tv) their going to be influenced by it and still do it.

If it was such a good idea, then why wouldn't everyone do it. Because it's not. It does more harm than good for a little kid. Surely you wouldn't think that you would know better?

I'm not saying to have them watch only profanity. That can be applied to any other type of entertainment.

If they do it at all, all the parent has to do is restrict use of entertainment until they've learned their lesson, it'll leave a mark.

It does no harm to the kid, it's just sounds, it's the parent who was brought up thinking that those sounds are evil who is thinking it's harmful.

Are you unaware or too naive to realize that society as a whole takes those words offensively especially coming out of a young kids mouth?

Are you unaware or too naive to realize that for the most part, your average middle school and above will feature the very same words in much larger quantities and frequency than you're going to get on TV and that censoring them on TV is a thoroughly ineffecient method of editing the language?

If society as a whole finds it so offensive, why are they even used in the first place?[/i]

It's funny when they censor their mouths when they say a swear word. I mean [what the heck]? Can you even figure out of the swear word? That's just ÃÆÃâÃâüber stupid and pointless.

Heheh, I love how American Idol does that, one of the contestants was like,

Im confused why American TV is so censored however its films are not? I found it funny of the reaction of the US media over the Janet Jackson 'Wardrobe Malfunction'

Here in the UK we use something called a 'watershed' (strange name I know, I think its called a safe harbor in the US) which basically allows swearing, graphic violence, scenes of drugs and of a sexual nature after 9pm. Any 18-rated material must be shown after 10pm.

It works out quite well, most children who would be 'corrupted' by these scene are all tucked up in bed. Children old enough to be awake at this time, well I suppose thats upto the discretion of their parents.

I think the issue is not "Bad TV corrupts children" the real issue is "Bad parenting corrupts children"

Oh yeah there was this comedy movie that came on before that played around with Dic k (Short name for Richard.)

That was the title of the movie and then it was showing someone pouring white out on paper and it didn't look right (when it was coming on).

Anyways it was about Richard Nixon and at the end two girls put up a sign that said "You suck, [bleep]!" and he flipped them off. lmao. They censored hsi fingers though.

the thing i find annoying is that the censoring is starting to become funny. Its almost like a feature, its so elaborate.

On a show a while ago, there was a woman who was reciting a rap made for fifty cent and the censored swearing played an ascending scale, whilst the censor that covered her mouth exploded at the end of her speech.

I think that's the thing that is stupid despite being kind of entertaining.
