Name Changing?

i don't know if this is true or not but it popped into my head today at work. I think i remember jagex saying that they would let us change our names sometime in a future update, i'm probably just nuts, but if i'm not could someone shed some light on the subject?

I messaged Jagex months ago asking for a name change, they said to me that it cannot be done yet, but maybe in the future.

For starters copycats - How many people will name themselves things like

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"Zezima2"

 

 

 

"Zezima3"

 

 

 

"Zezima4"...

 

 

 

"Uloveme1"

 

 

 

"Uloveme2"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, with over 6 million odd characters, I doubt it's feasible. That's a huge database shift.

I seem to recall some very vague hints about this some time ago.....but IMHO...I wouldn't hold my breath.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If/when this happens, it's a "biggy"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Apart from the initial mechanics of changing a character's name, a lot of other things to be considered/dealt with. Initially what comes to mind:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.Name change....how it affects friends lists

 

 

 

2.Name change....does old name instantly become available, or is there a "cool off" period...or indeed does the name just become never again available?

 

 

 

3.I'm sure there's other stuff to be considered :-)

Yes, but most of those will stay a low level and never be used.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm sure most of them will already have been taken by some attention seekers anyway......

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also would it be a "first come, first served" basis? - Highly unfair.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plus, what if you changed your name, someone took your old one - that would mess the friends list situation up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Or, if someone takes a name of a banned person, or one that looks similar, that could cause a lot of confusion "Durial231" or "Dureal321" anyone?

For the record, all those names are already taken. I just checked #-o

To be exact they said they would make a change for people whos names are messed up with the censor. I believe they also will let people who were banned for offensive names or have more then one space in their name change too, So not too many people, but a decent amount.

They've been saying that exact same thing for about 3 years now. I don't think it's going to happen.
