Making your own world switcher by De_Lille_D

Introduction:

Because of the recent update of the rules, people are not allowed to use world switchers anymore, but they didn't mention using self-made links to worlds ... (A Pmod told me it is allowed, will upload a picture soon).

So I started making them and after a lot of (boring) typing and clicking, I finished it! I made a link to every Runescape world in High detail, so you can add them to your Favorites/Bookmarks. Jwrm22 made all links for Low Detail, using mine (i think).

---> Download all High Detail Runescape world links <---

---> Download all High Detail F2P (non-member) Runescape world links <---

---> Download all High Detail P2P (member) Runescape world links <---

---> Download all Low Detail Runescape world links (Credit: jwrm22) <---

How to do it: (For Firefox and Internet Explorer)

- Download my zip-file with the links

- Scan the file with every scanner you have and also this one (Adaware Se Personal), this one (Spybot Search and Destroy), this one (online malware scan), this one (Windows Defender) and this one (AVG-Antivirus). (Or you could just believe me it isn't infected ... )

- Open the file with Winzip or another program

- Open your browser (Ie or Firefox) and go to Favorites/Bookmarks and make a new map (e.g. Rs worlds)

- Make a new map in My Documents (You can not move or rename this map, or the links won't work anymore)

- Go to Winzip (or the program you used to open the file) and select all the links

- Copy the links to the new map

- Drag the files from your map to your Favorites/Bookmark (Fire fox users see 'Firefox naming problem')

- Drop in the apropriate map

- Organise by name

- DONE!

Notes:

- The links will always open in your default set browser (My IE opens an new Firefox tab).

- I haven't tried other browsers, because I don't have them.

- In Firefox, the links will be named "World ... High Detail",I know it's a little much, but if you don't like, you can still change it. If you are going to, (good luck and) send me a copy to put here also.

Firefox naming problem

(Warning: your computer might block because of the many pages to open at once, take your time to do this, or you might have to restart it manually)

The difference beween Frefox and IE is that Ie names the link after the filename and FireFix names it after the title of the page to which it's leading, but if you haven't been to the page, he names it after the location of the link. To prevent Firefox from giving it a wrong name, you'll have to open all the links, I'll guide you trough it:

(You must have Firefow set as the default browser)

- Close all Firefox windows

- Open the Winzip-file

- Copy all the links to your map in My Documents

- Organise by name

- Select worlds 1-10 (Click 1, hold shift, click 10) and open them (wait untill all the pages are loaded before going to the next step)

- Your windows will go to a group, close the group.

- Select worlds 11-20 (...) and open

- Close group

- Repeat 14 times untill all links are opened and closed

- Select all links and drag to the Bookmark map

You'll see that not all links have the right name, that's because Firefox openes 1 less link then you selected (if you select 3, he will only open 2).

- Check the first wrongly-named link and make out what it should be (it's already alfabethically ordered)

- Go to your map and open that link

- Go back to map and drag that link to Bookmark map and delete faulty name

- (repeat 10 times)

- Organise by name 1 last time

- FINISHED!

Making your own links:

Go here.

Very well explained. It's also where i first heard of the links to worlds that actually work.

- Bradley_006 for posting a way to make links to Runescape worlds.

- De_Lille_D (me): Making all High Detail links (also P2P and F2P).

- jwrm22: Big credit for making all Low Detail links. Thanks man  .

Enjoy your legal world switcher :D.

If you see typo's or mistakes post them.

If there is a problem with the links, tell me and i'll look into it (If there isn't a single mistake in 138 html-files, I'll be amased).

Good guide, maybe you could do one with all member worlds, all f2p worlds and then do all them groups in low-detail, you would have your self a ownage guide 8-)

OFFTOPIC

Don't me to be picky, but if you put the ' ' right next to the word then the underline become the same color as the word. ::'

Are you sure you can do it for F2P? Doesn't it block the adverts this way? If it does, you are still breaking the rules.
No, I am not sure if it does block adverbs but my spy wear blocks them anyways, they can be blocked its just not many people know about it.

great... just great now it'll be even harder to log in into world 2... *sighs*

How will it be harder? Just use the link yourself ...

Unfortunatly, it takes a lot of time to do it, I just made those (High Detail) for myself, and put it here so everyone can enjoy it. I do need feel the need to have Low Detail, so if you want it, you'll have to make it yourself.

1 thing I really like about the Runescape[dot]exe downloadable executable from the JAGeX official website is that it rune Runescape in it's own personal window independent of Internet Browsers, so when you hit a hyperlink with no other IE or FF windows open, Windows will automatically open a new window for the website rather than forcing Runescape to switch to the new link. Is there any way to avoid this with your system?

If my request is too wordy to understand or my English is too poor, please let me know and I'll try to rephrase it.

There are no Favorites/Bookmarks for the Runescape client. So when you click a link, it will open in your default set browser. You can't use the Runescape client as an normal browser, I tried openning a link with it, but it shows the RS-homepage. If you really want to have something like the Rs client, delete all your toolbars and your Firefox/IE will look just like the Runescape client.

Or you could download a different web-browser to the one that you normally use, permanently disable Javascript on it and set the homepage to this topic:

Et Voila, simple and easy world switcher using nothing more than a Web browser.
