  1. Who said anything about bills? What if you want some beers, or a dial-up pizza, or some clothes, or the typical crap those of us in our early twenties spend cash on after a week at work?
  2. That looks incredible. I feel slightly embarrassed about posting now. Originally, I made a world with outdoor buildings and an underground base containing all farms (since they tend to look a bit... ugly). [hide][/hide] Although it looks very pretty, and I'm proud of it, it had two main problems. Firstly: Mobs... there was no end to them. I got fed up of having to scout around for loose Creepers before they followed me and blew up something important. Secondly: Hills. I never really got to grips with how to build into them/around them and keep it all looking "natural". So I didn't bother any more, and went underground. At first it was OK. I was partly inspired by Ethos, and spreading light, water and grass underground does give an amazing feeling, almost as if you were literally resurrecting the place. But ultimately, it's a cave, and that left very little room to expand. Furthermore, if you did expand manually, you were always prone to breaking into an adjacent dark cave, which rendered the whole base unsafe to Creepers. Any future projects would have to be outdoors; even the bigger caves weren't big enough to house the bigger projects I had in mind. Then I had a brainwave while messing around with some ladders. The one difference in movement between yourself and mobs is jumping, and if you jump onto a ladder two spaces off the ground, you can still climb it. And so, I set out making the entrance: [hide][/hide] Literally no mob, except for spiders of course, can climb it, including Child Zombies. I was safe, barring an errant lightning bolt or flint and steel. So I carried on expanding the platform according to what material I needed more of at that moment in time. I've finished the first level, which contains all the basic resources needed to build stuff (wood, stone, charcoal, pumpkins): [hide][/hide] The best thing is, I've not really started. This level only contains one farm for each of the three common tree types, one wheat farm, one pumpkin farm(for the Jack O'Lanterns acting as floor lighting), one sugar cane farm, one Nether Portal room, and an access ladder which goes down to the lava level. The room with the open ceiling in the middle will be an access ladder to the second level. There's no wool farm, no steak farm, no enchanting room, no brewing room... there's nowhere to even sleep at the moment, except for that bed in the middle which really needs a house. I'm going to build some homes and towers around the base just so it fits into the scenery a bit more. There's so much potential. I just need to work out a way of building a second tier on top of the first and still keep it looking as tough the whole thing wouldn't collapse on itself. I know it's Minecraft and physics don't count but I still want it looking as though it could be real.
  3. That's a very silly and baseless assumption, to be honest. In fact, I'll reply with one of my own just to prove how silly it is: People who spend more time playing RuneScape are more likely to be no lifer nerds who don't have friends to talk about how wonderful RuneScape is. So, actually, the more money per player spent on RuneScape, the less social capital Jagex have!! (Or not, because this is just as stupid a statement as yours was) We could just stick with common sense statements: The more customers a product has, the more exposure it has. Thus, the less players RuneScape has, the less exposure it has. The only exception to that rule would be prestige products, like luxury brands, for example. The exposure comes from wanting to have a connection to the brand rather than necessarily owning it. You're going to be very hard pushed to argue that RuneScape falls in that category.
  4. I tend to have it on radio instead, but: Comedy: The Big Bang Theory Family Guy American Dad The Last Leg Have I Got News For You 10 o'clock Live 8 out of 10 Cats Drama/Documentaries 24 Hours in A&E Casualty Holby City Game shows: The Chase Catchphrase Countdown
  5. This would have been true when RuneScape was released, but because of the explosion in social networking and social media, exposure on websites like Twitter, Facebook etc. is capital in its own right. The more players you have, the more social capital you have as a company to use. Unless you're purposefully attempting to give a product some kind of niche market, or some kind of social prestige that only few can enjoy (comparatively expensive "limited edition" offers, for example) it's no longer the case that five people paying £1 each = one person paying £5. The difference is four more people talking about said product to their friends. That's why declining player numbers are a worry, and microtransactions doesn't necessarily compensate for that. NB: By saying that, I'm not arguing RuneScape is necessarily dying. That's far too simplistic an argument. The genre on a more general basis, however, has been in a fairly consistent decline for a good few years now.
  6. There's other practical issues too. If she's living with you, will she be contributing financially? If so, how is she obtaining those finances? If you're living with other people, don't assume they'll be fine with it; I know from personal experience and the experience of my friends, I certainly wouldn't be okay with a housemate basically having their girlfriend live with them for free, unless they're chipping in extra for bills and such. What about her friends and her own life? What's she actually going to be doing on a day-today basis to keep herself busy, when she's miles away from home in another country, apparently isolated from everyone she's ever known? It all seems quite grey and boring stuff compared to the romantic idealism of moving in with someone you have feelings for, but that's part and parcel of living with other people. You have to sort through those questions sooner rather than later, or they very quickly become a source of tension.
  7. I can't think of how it's ever a good thing. Not least because being clingy on one person basically involves paying so much attention to that one person, you're effectively sticking the finger up to the rest of your friends and family, who you'll probably want to be there if the whole thing disintegrates. Which it's more likely to do in the first place, because relationships have to exist within the context of both people's wider social circle if they want to be healthy. What happened to Romeo and Juliet in the end?
  8. One of my mates did a trick where he paid for the first date, and if they went on a second date, she paid for that one instead. At least then there's give and take from both sides.
  9. She dated him for four months. You know, I'm really going out on a limb here but... I reckon this lad probably wasn't the love of her life and you shouldn't worry about it.

I usually type as an INFP, with only a slight preference for P over J; the others are quite strong, especially introversion. Describes me fairly well. I have a few close friends, all of whom I love to bits because we just seem to 'get' each other. I have a sophisticated concept of the 'ideal world', and this manifests itself in strong values I hold; it's these values which usually decide my actions. I'm more interested in the 'greater good' rather than my own personal gain. My sense of humour mixes between surrealism and sarcasm, and while I do enjoy talking to people and really getting to know them, if I'm with lots of people I'll get tired quickly and need time on my own. Romantically, I tend to be attracted towards girls with intelligent, caring, cheerful personalities.

Fantastic pictures. Good thing I'm not squeamish about surgery (except eyes!)... you can really get a good perspective of the skin layers. What did the surgery actually involve? Moving from uni halls into shared housing today with private landlord. Very excited and very nervous... I have an 8-week placement starting Monday in GU Medicine. Hello 7am starts. :? I'm not sure if the new house has Internet, so it could be a while before I post here again.

Excuse the perfunctory use of a meme, but can't you literally kill it with fire?
  13. Let's put the thing with Kat to one side, because from the sounds of things, it doesn't really have much of a cause in what you're feeling right now. The way you wrote it suggests you had a tenancy for 'clingy' behaviour even before you went out with Kat, am I right? Perhaps Kat felt that all the responsibilities of being President of that society were beyond her capability, and she simply didn't cope with that. That would have harmed her belief in dealing with other things in her life too. Although relationships are a form of social support, partners in relationships have expectations of each other, yes? What I read from what you've wrote there is Kat saying: "I've taken on more than I can chew, I'm not coping, I've gone home to build myself up again, but I can't do that while I feel an expectation to provide you with what you're wanting from this relationship, so I'm ending it for my own sake." From that perspective, it isn't a case of whether you were righted or wronged, it's simply a matter of fact, that the relationship couldn't possibly have worked, regardless of the respect between the two individuals, simply because one of those individuals was tearing apart at the seams in terms of her mental well-being. However, what's also very clear is that Becca isn't following that pattern, is she? So there's no reason to believe that the relationship will follow that same path; it's a different person, a much healthier person with obviously more belief and self-esteem. Let's focus on you and the way that you're feeling, because this seems to be primarily driven by your emotions ... How do you mean 'insecure'? What exactly are you worried about? Describe it to me; what makes you feel that way, how exactly do you feel, what's running through your head when you feel that way, how do you stop feeling that way?
  14. [hide=lolz][/hide] I count fifteen there, and another two or three popped up before sunrise. Another house in the Village was also under attack at the same time. UPDATE: I forgot to mention; this isn't a zombie siege. The village has too few houses and even fewer villagers. This is happening every night as a result of natural spawning.
  15. I was going to reply a bit later when I had something wittier to say, but I realised that, like Maddy, I'd only be putting things off until the time 'feels right', which of course, never comes. :P
  16. You and I both know that what you're actually doing is using any excuse to avoid approaching this problem, because emotionally it's not making you feel great, because it's taking you way out of your comfort zone. I realise I'm a hypocrite when I say that, because I'm a sucker for procrastinating even the simplest things, especially when it comes to relationships. Tell me I'm wrong.
  17. You definitely can't just punch mobs to death now. Hunger falls too quickly, which is a good thing. It's definitely catered towards players who've got well-established worlds with food farms up and running, so it rewards players in that sense. If only potions were stackable, though... I can imagine on a multiplayer server, the demand for food just went up a whole notch. There'll be people who complain this is meant to be a sandbox-type game, so why the difficulty gradient, but there's still Peaceful difficulty or Creative Mode. Spelunking on a brand new world with a stone sword, some torches, a stack of logs and a few bits of raw chicken wasn't much fun when I had zombies coming from just about everywhere, though. Cows aren't nearly common enough, or drop leather enough to make leather armour that early in the game, and even if they did you'd be saving it for the enchanting room anyway. Iron, of course, is why I would be spelunking in the first place; the egg has to come before the chicken. I can see how the Zombie change is useful for exploring paths you might have missed, though, and generally makes the game a lot more challenging... they just need to correct the Zombies-not-actually-breaking-doors glitch. Not actually encountered a spider with attributes yet, so can't comment on that. The low FPS problem seem to be caused by the new launcher apparently not wanting to choose integrated graphics cards (mine's HD 4000, which I know is a very ordinary GPU) when loading the game, so if you've got a separate graphics card you shouldn't have a problem. I don't know why Advanced OpenGL works, or even what it is, or why that affects servers, but I've gone from 8 FPS to 50 FPS now. Computer science ain't my thing and that really showed when I worked on the Crew, so... I ain't got a clue. :P It's strange that this is the 'Horse Update' and not one of us has even mentioned it yet.
  18. How much do you trust this girl? 'Coz... I'm not sure I'd be so helpful if a guy wanted to get with one of my female friends, regardless of how nice they were. :P
  19. I have to confess, the sprint glitch has pissed even more people off than the low FPS problems. If you're standing at the side of a cliff or retreating from an aimbot skeleton, don't bother. Also.... ZOMBIES [bleep]ING EVERYWHERE!!!
  20. Oh, very nice! For those who were interested in my Minecraft slowness issues, it was fixed by turning OpenGL on. Wikipedia says something about GPUs, which I guess makes sense. Don't even know what I'm talking about but... whatever, it works. :)

Microsoft names next free game for Xbox 360 Gold subscribers [bleep]ing wankers... Assassin's Creed 2 and they know I can't afford XBL Gold this month. :( Defense Grid is a decent game, but when you look into the metagame (read: fully upgraded guns >>> any other tower), it becomes a bit stale.

You have one friend who says that? I think you, I and everyone else here has a good dozen friends who make that promise after every bad hangover!
  23. This is going to sounds really sad but... whatever. When I used to breed Pokemon like six or seven years ago (on the game, I didn't try it in reality obviously!) I used to go on baby name websites. Literally typed in a word relevant to that Pokemon (like 'Water' for a Water-type) and picked whatever name sounded best. Used the same process for my AC:CF town which was "Arelie".

Let's see how long this one lasts!
  25. Unlikely to having anything to do with the XBone. Moves that high up don't happen overnight, and two months ago, no one could really have predicted it would be so poorly received.
