Whenever I have to do any form of prolonged public speaking, I have horrible heart palpitations. I mean, it literally feels like my heart is pounding through my chest, and I start to get tingling in the tips of my fingers (classic symptom of hypoxia secondary to panic attack). Sure, I'm nervous, but I'm not really nervous about anything I need to say so much as what others will think of me if I start stumbling over words and stuff, which is obviously a self-fulfilling prophecy. I try to ignore the heart symptoms but it gets stronger and stronger until I find it difficult to speak. I've always been told that that's something that will just get easier with time, but it happened last night in front of just ten people. I'm 23 now and if anything it's remained the same since I was when I first had to do it at 14. Is that normal?
  2. Considering the average runescape player is now 18+ are you sure? Source needed and, why does it even matter so long as minors are playing the game?
  3. I'm curious to see a picture of this fiend now.
  4. They could have done neither. Count your blessings. ;)
  5. Wonder if the OH stakes will make vyres a worthwhile task, especially with the cremation damage boosts. They were neither 2h or x2 before. Unlikely, though.
  6. The point about there being no decent Rock moves outside of SR is especially pertinent re: pokes like Volcarona.
  7. It's really just confirmation bias, which is an equal flaw in people who are over confident as well as people lacking confidence.
  8. Internet rule #51: "Every comment vaguely related to censorship must include irrelevant misinterpretations of George Orwell's 1984".
  9. If you removed SR completely, wouldn't you throw the metagame wide open to Flying/Levitate focus sash abusers? Particularly Steel/Ground/Rock-based types who would be immune to TTar-induced SS.
  10. I never did get round to buying OoS when it came out... I'll remove myself from your thread until I'm on your level again.
  11. Wouldn't removing SR just lead to Ice/Flying being as OP as Dragon was before? In fact, doubly so given Dragons now have to compete with a new counter type.

There was a 1984 reference on page 1984, but it was "rectified" by Kimberley who works for the Records Department at Minitrue.
  13. Would confirm RPG's suspicions about your self-esteem, particularly the reaction "why would they ever like me". Honestly, if I asked you to list ten qualities men would find attractive about you, and then ten reasons men might not like you, which would you find easier?
  14. I can agree with both points of view (yours and Sy's) by saying this: Although it is true that many people are now desensitized to language surrounding discrimination, I would argue desensitization is a contributing factor to intolerance, and so continuing to use the term, even in a non-offensive way, is inadvertently contributing to intolerance. Or, in simple terms: using language non-offensively contributes to making that language acceptable even in offensive contexts. Surely the point we can all agree on, is that the use of derogatory language (whether it's racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, misogynistic or whatever) in an offensive context is never justified, regardless of whether people have a personal responsibility to avoid being offended or not. Even if you're not assed about discrimination or social equality, it still falls under the general principle of "Don't be a dick". I would argue that if you came across someone who disagreed with that statement, you're not going to reform that behaviour by muting them or banning them, but by allowing them to expose their prejudices to the wider community. By all means mute them because they're being deliberately offensive and bullying, but don't mute them with the naive aim of educating them or reforming them, because it simply doesn't work like that.
  15. Sex and alcohol. Lethal combination. From what you've said, it looks like you only started to see him as "something more" when he paid compliments to you, and I think you said that's something you struggle with because you feel as though you shouldn't expect compliments. Would you agree?
  16. Wii only. I remember from somewhere that the intention is, having moved on one generation, that they'll start putting NGC games on the Virtual Console (eShop, whatever). Obviously not helpful if you already have the games on GameCube discs. :P
  17. Wii U: Yes 3DS: Yes Xbox One: No PS4: Not technically, planning emulators of previous gens. PSVita: Yes, by download.
  18. It's for a 2014 release, while X and Y will be released this October worldwide, so a Generation VI clone isn't out of the question. Great way to plug the new Pokemon games too given its on the same console.
  19. It's your choice, of course, but I wouldn't worry about dependency. Very low risk, hence it's a widely sold OTC drug. It has some pain killing properties but it isn't an opiate, it's an NSAID. Apart from anything else the MRI scan requires the swelling to go down first to provide the clearest image, and ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. :) Try a 400mg dose and see if that manages the pain effectively.
  20. So why not just call each other shithead? Go out in public, you'll see plenty of people using "banter" without needing to resort to terms like that. Why specifically use a term which you know has homophobic connotations? That's what really doesn't make sense to me whatsoever.
  21. Your point seems to be: "People are offended all the time, you just have to deal with it" which is a reasonable point but not a relevant one to the point being made. My stance was that people have a right to free from being discriminated against, not necessarily being offended, although it is true that most forms of discrimination happen to involve offending the victimized group. A cow being killed for leather is not an example of discrimination against vegetarians, even if it may offend a vegetarian. The homophobic F-word isn't acceptable not only because is it offensive, but most importantly because it's also directed against a specific group of people, not for any beliefs or values they have, but simply because they happen to be male and gay. The use of the term presumes the statement that: Homosexual men have a derogatory term used to describe them as a community, whereas heterosexual men do not. It also devalues the diversity within that community by removing the right to define one's own identity, and attempts to reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator: their sexuality. I suppose an example would be that the term "Noob" would be acceptable, even if it's offensive, whereas a pejorative term such as the F-word, the N-word (etc.) would not. I'd argue this an example of downplaying the consequences that discrimination has in reality. This is based on the philosophy that de facto discrimination only exists because of du jure discrimination, and that because it's now legal to be openly gay/black/Jewish/whatever, that discrimination no longer really exists, and so discriminatory terms have no real meaning. This is in stark contrast to reality: gay men are far, far more likely than the average male population to attempt suicide, for example. De facto discrimination still definitely exists--it manifests in inequalities such as the one described in that example--and so those terms still have negative meanings. How is asking not to be discriminated against defined as "treating differently"? There is no derogatory term of abuse for heterosexual males, all anyone's asking for is that there be no derogatory term to describe homosexual males. In any case, this discussion has moved far beyond the original remit of the thread and probably deserves its own thread on the OT board.
  22. That's an anxiety shared by a hell of a lot of people approaching the end of their education. No statement seemed to terrorize the people I met this year more than "So, what are you planning on doing after uni?" My advice for anyone facing general, free-floating fear like that is to put it all down on paper, prioritize which fears are most important, or which fears are central, and work out a plan from there. The first thing you have to do is define exactly what you're fearful of, otherwise any action you take may as well be random.
  23. Day 2 Saw the first batch of fighters yesterday, still no sign of Meta Knights. The hitboxes on the new characters seem to match up, speaking of which, no sign of Snakes either. A man can hope.
