  1. Uh? My abilities?

Your argument that I'm a laid-back, slow slayer as the reason for my numbers being different.

Yes, I have done bandos, thus I have gotten a bandos kill count off the goblins. Higher the level, higher the chance to hit/one hit kill them. Even at 84 attack I sometimes miss. A clear assumption on your behalf.

And that has precisely what to do with who gets the goblin when two people are standing there waiting for a spawn?

  2. I'm not arguing their money, I'm arguing their patience.

Oh, so 60m an hour isn't good? If they don't have the patience for that, they should probably find another game.

It's no wonder no one can ever make a point with you -- you keep changing the argument.

Just because you can't understand my point doesn't give you the right to flame me with asinine statements that don't even apply.

What does that have to do with it? You could average 14.4 million an hour stopping by the Duel Arena every 15 minutes -- sounds a lot better than 250k/hour.

Except that they could be making 3m an hour steadily. The people making 250k\hour have 10k trade limits, not 60k =D>

  3.

I have played since before RS2, and yet I still have P2P, a spirit shield, Bandos and Armadyl armour, have owned godswords, slay with a whip, own a slayer helmet, have leveled up summoning, hunter, construction, farming, slayer, and runecrafting. I've spent hours playing Stealing Creation and tested out Soul Wars, I own full void (all three) and use ways of leveling up that didn't exist years ago.

And what does that have too do with anything?

And I would still enjoy the game if I was in f2p mining iron with a little pickaxe in a thought bubble above my head.

More or less then you do currently.

I fail to see why you don't understand any of this.

    Ditto.

  4.

    Pages 7 to 36. That's specific? Explains a lot.

Good to know. It might come as a surprise to you, but 1,800 pages takes a bit of forum space to display =D>

Not many people would be dedicated enough to read through 580 posts just so they can see some facts.

Then they shouldn't be trying to argue for or against said facts.

I don't understand grinding, it is boring, benefits you as a person in no way what so ever (except for maybe learning patience). All that for a game.... get a life ppl.

Drop the "get a life", people are free to enjoy whatever they want. I do agree with you though, it's funner to train with variety then grind at one spot :P

    Nice double post BTW.

What? I responded to two separate posts on separate posts of my own to separate facts, it's within the rules so I'm assuming your trying to "insult" me with it as thusfar you haven't been able to come up with a "logic" argument.

  5. Agreed, but Armored Zombies still wins :P

The whole point of a Skill, is to work your way through and get the 99, thats what Runescape is all about really, because if there were no skills but monsters, Runescape would be boring..

    Agreed. That's why I love slayer :P

  6.

People who don't have the patience to get the stats to make 250k an hour are going to do that for who knows how [bleep] long?

Not very long. At 60m an hour, they won't spend very long before their bank account (or their parents) is dry.

Also, given the current system (up to 60k/15 minutes), if you do what you just detailed up there, you could make an average of 14.4 million an hour. And RWT runs rampant, doesn't it?

Hate to break it to you, but most people with all quests done can make more then 250k\h =D>

Since the rest is completely off-topic, I'm leaving it alone. No need to make it worse.

    Fine with me :P

  7.

My level of enjoyment is equal when there are updates and when there aren't.

    Clear enough for you?

So you don't enjoy updates, and no update has ever increased your enjoyment of the game. Sort of contrary to your previous posts, but as long as your sticking to it now it's fine with me. Good to know you FINALLY answered my question -.-

  8.

Ok, my what? I have not said any stats.... and I never said you were a liar, just said that saying "I am the fastest...." or whatever does not mean that I am going to believe you. Calm down.

But it pits my view of my abilities against yours, and as it's me we're talking about, it clearly defines my position and overrides your secondhand viewpoint.

Grabbing a monster does not count as a kill, it is the killing I am talking about. Better stats -> faster kill -> less time till you can attack another one.

Ever tried getting bandos KC? I'd advise trying it before you begin a debate about it. Since you obviously don't seem to know, we're talking about monsters with level 1 defence and 3-15 HP that are almost always 1 hit with 3-4 seconds spent waiting for a spawn between each kill.

  9. All references made by compfreak are vague enough as to be useless. If it's so damn important, put it here or reference the exact post so we know what the hell you're talking about.

Sure. Pages 7 to 36. They deal almost exclusively with my numbers and methods. Obviously you haven't bothered to read them or you would have known beforehand =D>

  10.

So it'd be worth it to pay $20 then spend 4 hours in the Duel Arena winning one rigged duel every 15 minutes for 4 million gold?

No, but it'd be worth it to spend 15 seconds losing a duel every 15 minutes for an average of 60,000,000 GP per hour. We're talking about people that can't make 250k per hour

You don't need to link me there -- I'm more than capable with mathematical definitions. And unless you've taken a large, random sample of posts from both now and however long ago you want to say that the boards were at their peak, you have no real evidence.

All I need to do is take the maximum mature post streak for, say, the past 2 months and compare it to several years ago. There's simply no comparison, whole threads used to go without the spam\flame we see nowdays. Like I said, I've spent hundreds of posts and months of debating with old-timers like Salim without a single insult having been thrown.

That wasn't a point relevant to the debate at all, which is why it was pointless. You phrased it as a personal attack rather than a point you were trying to make.[/quoite]

That's how you interpret it. It completely relates to maturity of now vs. then; it's a direct result of maturity overall.

    Again, evidence for this?

    See above.

So now you're going to judge simply based on the rants forum? You can't just stamp your own criteria onto everything -- you're trying to use your own criteria where they don't apply in order to make your position more defensible.

So what? I'm stating a personal opinion, that the Rants forum has gone downhill, and backing it up with facts (In this case, length between immature posts for a large period of time). As long as I'm not specifically tailoring it to suit my opinions, I can set requirements at whatever the hell I want.

But what the hell does this have to do with the topic in the first place? This has almost completely degenerated into off-topic arguments.

Nothing more to say about the topic. The bottom line is that we have the best possible system in place.

  11. Lol, don't know if that was to me or compfreak, but anyway, maybe I should clarify. There are rates, but it becomes blurry at a certain point where it is hard to see if someone is a very hard worker, or just plain lien'.

Like you cannot say that it is impossible to kill 3 trolls in an hour with maxed stats and a decent weapon, but when you get to the upper reaches of 'facts' it is hard to prove.

Yep, it's a factor in any RS discussion, but one that can be minimized by exact rates. It's very hard to give numbers that match up across all areas of slayer if your just pulling them out of your behind.

I see you are ignoring the better methods argument and still saying everyone is talking about how fast you can click when you do an abyss/Zmi run.

All numbers and methods are detailed with efficiency calculations earlier in this thread. Argue with facts instead of throwing generic insults

  12.

    Change your sig qp compfreak.

Good call, I'm at 275 from WGS :-#

And what type of internet do you have >.>

It's cable linked to via gigabit ethernet, but it's a newly laid line and gets me crazy low lag time.

But really, post a summary of results compfreak, make it clear.

Then I get 20 pages of idiots telling me that I should be using a cannon at Demons. Been there, done that. The posts have details on methods used for a reason. #-o

You are on the internet, you cannot really prove any of your times sorry. Even video recording can be manipulated to look faster than they are.

Not having a go at you, just a general statement of any times for runescape.

And you can't prove any of yours either. Therefore, it is utterly impossible to have any discussion whatsoever as the other party could be making it up. It's probably a good idea not to try and post in this discussion if your operating under the assumption that all of us are pathological liars.

And the kill count thing? Maybe cos you have maxed combat stat you beat them?

Could you show me proof that higher stats result in faster reaction time for grabbing monsters, 'cause I'm really not buying it...

  13.

That's why I started my response with a question, as you seemed to claim that they were enjoyable by default.

Nope, but you specifically said you enjoyed them. Clear enough?

Compfreak, not meaning this to be down your neck or anything, but could it be possible for the money jagex put forward into the forums be returned by an increase in advertisment prices, because FTP play more, seeing as the goal of 12.5million would be possible to achieve, so more players try to keep playing untill that point.

Maybe they could of even made profit?

If they update FTP then i'm sure they'd increase advertisment prices, to cover the cost.

I'm sure Jagex wouldn't compromise our updates to help something they are making no profit off. They must have their reasons, which i doubt would be to make players they make very little revenue off, happy.

Take a look at costs vs. advertising revenue. FTP costs dwarf the revenue; the more people who play FTP, the more money Jagex loses. Logic fail.

Compfreak, Jagex obviously let F2P's into the forums for a reason. If F2P gets forums, Jagex can get a clearer idea of what needs changing in f2p which will maybe bring more people into the game who will stay because they are interested and all of them are potential members (and they will tell all their friends about Runescape as well) which will probably cover the cost of the extra F2P's on the forums. If i'm talking about something completly different my bad.

The goal isn't to make people want to play FTP, it's to make them play PTP. Yes, reeling in players to FTP is important, but it works against them in the same manner - it'll drag down players who decide they don't need PTP or don't have to upgrade. The problem is that PTP while PTP makes a profit, FTP hemorrhages money and is subsidized almost exclusively by PTP.

Actually, there was a post by Gerhard that said the company was about fun, they didn't care if they lost money. I'm not sure if that was in the forums or not though, so it may be gone. Surely somebody else browsing this thread remembers what I'm talking about.

Typical marketing BS. Jagex is a company, they aren't out to make people feel good. Saying something like that puts them in a good light, but notice that they are registered as a for-profit corporation.

  14. At higher levels melee can hit 27s with a scimitar while mages run around trying to hit 16s at half the speed melee is delivering 27s.

    =D>

And that has precisely what to do with low level FTP mage?

I mean that it is underpowered if you are 94 combat.

Gee, a level 35 spell is underpowered if you are 94 combat? Next they'll be saying that a bronze scimmy and level 15 strength is underpowered at level 124. Yay for TIF.

  15. Duradel is the best for XP, period. Longer, harder tasks are better as less time is wasted obtaining them. And he's much easier to get to then Fairy rings; another important time factor.

Yes, some are more enjoyable, but in the end it's raw efficiency we are arguing about.

You have to ask yourself if you're doing relaxed slayer like Compfreak, or efficient and fast slayer like Ydrasil and I.

What are you talking about? All number from this thread have come from my fastest slaying times, and I'm one of the most efficient testers. I managed to obtain the second fastest (next to zarfot) abyss run I've seen from anyone, and my ZMI times are far above what I've seen from others; I beat Zarfot's best timing by 3 seconds for one of my full-banking runs. I have an ultra low lag internet connection (6ms ping time to a nearby server), a very high quality Logitech mouse at 2,000 DPI and very low lag time all adding up to very, very fast rates - my Avansie rates are as-yet unmatched by ANYONE, and I am very efficient at bandos KC - when fighting someone for KC, I generally beat them by at least 10-1.

Basically, I'm not bragging, I'm just saying that when I test I am very, very fast and efficient. Yes, I enjoy laid-back slaying, but those numbers are not being used in the debate and therefore are irrelevant.

  16. Even reading instructions really doesn't make it clear enough. Everyone's new at some point; when I first came to BA, I was a helpless newb. Same for GWD or any hard, first-time event. There's always going to be new people trying to learn the ropes.

  17.

I'm not disagreeing with the limit itself, but with the number. Even 1 million/hour would've effectively killed RWT while keeping the stakers happy and in business. So why at 12k/hour?

What are you talking about? 1m an hour would have killed RWT? I'm sorry, but that's simply ludicrous.

The entire forum wasn't more mature; there were still idiots. When you're biased to the point of ignoring such a large group of people, it's not quite such a good idea.

But the forum overall was more mature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average

It's also not that great of etiquette in a debate -- it makes it sound more like you're attacking the other person than their points.

I'm going to list all points relevant to my debate, regardless of how that makes you feel. You can take offense to me saying crime rates are higher in African-American neighborhoods, but I'm still going to use that as a relevant fact in a discussion.

What? How does it matter when my posts were? It's much more relevant what's in my posts and who I am rather than the fact that I wasn't a very active poster three years ago when I joined.

Point being? How does that affect the fact that 'average length to immature posts' was much greater several years ago?

And other threads on the current TIF have managed to stay mature for longer. Again, selection bias, ignoring the fact that some current threads are capable of lasting longer as well.

I haven't seen a single recent rants thread, and it's not as if I don't read most of them. Perhaps you could point one out for me.

  18.

And all updates are enjoyed? None negatively affect your gameplay at all? That is the unmentioned assumption behind your logic, which is quite a big assumption to make.

Could you point out the line where I said that? I'll point out the line where I said quite the opposite, you even quoted it: "I enjoy updates more then I dislike them". In general, I enjoy updates more then I dislike them. Yeah, some inconvenience me, but the good ones more then balance it out, and in general I derive enjoyment from updates. Be back tomorrow to continue this.

  19. You quoted mervinator, not me.

That would quite effectively explain why we've been having communication problems :-w

Duel Arena is the first one that comes to mind. When the changes were first made, the cap was 3k, throwing away hundreds or thousands of hours that people had spend optimizing their characters and dueling strategies with such a tiny compensation that it's laughable.

Explain the duel arena change above. It was an overreaction that wasn't thought out that well.

Are you talking about the limit itself, or that it was so low? I'll respond to both:

Limit itself: Hellooo, welcome to RWT world. It was a choice of either change the gameplay of a very tiny fraction of their userbase or shut down the game.

That it was so low: Very smart move. Even at 60k\h, the current max, a high level dueler would never find a max of 240k\h a decent income. Staking for money was completely killed irregardless of the limit, and they had to make sure no one was going to do the "limit every 15 minutes" type of trade.

    Potential selection bias

So what? I'm biased towards smart people, because I believe their responses are generally better thought out then the village idiot. You can't go calling every fact that points out some groups of people are different bad because it's "biased"; bias is bad when taken to extremes, but it's also a fact of life.

sounds condescending to the people it's directed at

Sorry, but you'll have to live with that. It's also condescending to say that Nigerians have a lower average income then USA households. I'm here to prove myself correct, not to make you feel good about yourself.

and I've been here longer than you have

You weren't an active poster. When your posts were count, not how long you've been lurking.

but what does that really matter? People are defined by who they are, not when they are.

So what? I'm saying that this discussion strayed to immature flaming in 45 posts, something the old TIF was able to manage for far longer. It's a fact, not an opinion, about a group of people.

Time for bed, church tomorrow. I'll be on later to continue this.

  20.

That further proves your point? It's time wasted that you're not spending getting the most out of the membership that you paid for.

But I enjoy debating more then play RS at the moment, so I'm making the choice to do this instead. Again, completely under my control.

I'm beginning to think that our ways of thinking are so opposite it's pointless continuing this. I'm here for the ride, you're fretting that we're only going only 10 over and could get there faster if we went 15 over.

No, because the faster we go the more enjoyment we derive. I'm saying "I get more enjoyment from the game when there are more updates I enjoy". There is no logical way to disprove that, and it's a corollary to "Because I enjoy updates more then I dislike them, increasing update frequency means increase enjoyment". It's very simple and very indisputable logic.

  21.

    1) Not my argument

Really? Someone must have hacked your account and posted it :|

    2) If they thought through things so thoroughly, why do some updates have gaping holes that can best be attributed to a lack of thinking things through

Start providing examples. Hindsight is 20\20; without impossibly long Q&A testing, some bugs simply cannot be spotted. See the DD on spam clicking the dance emote while attacking the KQ with a rubber chicken. http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarti ... cle_id=635

So the simplest explanation is that clearly bad ideas were thoroughly thought through?

No, the simplest explanation is that clearly bad ideas were not thought to be so until a massive amount of gameplay time revealed a tiny flaw that no reasonable amount of Q&A could reveal. Take, for example, the recent Wildy bug: It took nearly 7 months of gameplay, at an average of 125,000 hours logged per physical hour - a total of 87,000,000 hours of gameplay - to reveal it. It was sealed by Jagex in a couple of hours. At the current minimum wage in the UK, it would take 739,500,000 USD to find that - and that's minimum wage, not skilled gaming professional wage.

  22. Yeah really, with ideal setups and minimal interruption we aren't dealing with chaos theory

You should get similar rates within maybe 10%?

EDIT: one post from 1337 >.>

Well under 10%, see my argument on 10% being the maximum variation over an hour period of time, and we should be obtaining much less then that as our numbers come from significantly over an hour.

Also, your technically higher then 1337 already, as you used to mention in your sig the rollback stole posts. I lost over 850 posts, including one evening with a competition between me and Inushakent. I managed to get the 'last posted by' for every single thread on the front page of the H&A forum save one, and he constantly posted on one of them just as I was about to finish it off. The 1 minute limit killed me, it went on for almost a half hour until he finally had to leave

  23. Because all of those are natural factors controlled by me, not Jagex. It's my personal choice to balance those to suit my playing style and decided how much enjoyment I derive from them. It's also my personal choice to disagree when Jagex does something to change that and reduce my enjoyment.

It's controlled by you? Go without sleep for two weeks. Go ahead, try it.

That would reduce my enjoyment, further proving my point. It's currently controlled so that I obtain the optimum enjoyment from it overall, but reducing update frequency is dropping that.
