Because people are eager to blame "society" for criminal activity and have "society" fix the problems that result from individuals consciously breaking the law. It's never the criminal's fault! :wink: This is not the same as most other criminal activities. This is a mexican immigrant or a cuban immigrant trying to get what a canadian immigrant or french immigrant can obtain legally. If the only thing you're worrying about is them breaking the law, then why not try and fix the system so they can move here legally? They can't exactly pay taxes if they aren't able to access the immigration process. We're talking about people who didn't even have telephones before they moved here.

Actually, science is proven by reason. I should have explained myself better. Reason is more basic than religion and science because it is not a set of beliefs. Instead, it is the evaluation of different sets of beliefs. That is why "reason is proven by reason" can be justified, since everything must be proven by reason.

That's like saying math is circular logic because you can't prove math without using math. Reason is wider and more flexible than religion.

The Supreme Court did not define Secular Humanism as a religion. That was merely the footnote/personal opinion of one of the judges. Opposing the use of Reason in schools is not the same as opposing religion in schools. Reason allows students to evaluate different views. Religion does not. Children should not be taught that they can "only" rely on their own reason. They should be taught that there is more than one belief system in the world and be given the opportunity to choose for themselves as they mature mentally. Or that [insert different religious text here] is [insert God name here]'s infallible word. There is nothing to prove that the Bible is right, or the Quran is right, or the Book of Mormon is right. Teaching children to rely on reason is the only system that is not unproven. It allows them to consider all the different religions and decide whether they need the emotional support provided by religion and, if so, which one they would like to attach themselves to.
