Consoles have changed over the years, from simple game playing machines to media centers. Just like modern computers. The Wii really lacks in hardware and extra features compared to the PS3 and XBox 360. The Wii is basically a gaming machine. Extras like dvd-movie playback aren't really important if you want to play games. If you have a standalone dvd player, why is it even an issue? How many dvd players do you really need, anyway? Even if you were to buy a console just to play movies and music, it would still be cheaper to buy a dvd player. The main thing about consoles are of course, the games. If little to no games appeal to you, then why even consider it? Personally, there are very few games on the XBox 360 that I'd like to play, and most of them are available for PC anyway. If you (hawkxs) are a hardcore gamer, it might be better if you look into one of the other consoles, unless the Wii has everything you want to play. Although it doesn't seem like you are a hardcore game, judging by your post. It also seems like your dad is just getting the Wii as a family activity thing, in which case the Wii would be the best choice. After all, the Wii is cheaper and the games are easier to get into.
