  1. Thanks a lot for all your suggestions, I'll look into them :)
  2. Hi - i recently found out that the internet in our house is far slower in my room than anywhere else in house, often it disconnects but then instantly reconnects if i move my laptop outside my room. Is there anything i can buy like a booster or something to increase the internet connectivity in my room?
  3. I know there is a difference between weather and climate, but whenever there is a hot spell in summer there are always scientists on the news saying that it is global warming at work, now that it is really cold they come on and say global warming does not really affect the weather on a day to day basis.
  4. In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create a universe. We do the things we do because of our genetic makeup and our environment. The human choice really is nothing more than a delusion. To say we have freewill is to say our choice comes from scratch, but it doesn't. You were born a certain way or were exposed to a certain stimuli in your lifetime which caused you to make that "choice". The philosophy of nihilism really hits the nail on the head - life is pointless. BUT... to live that way just isn't healthy and overall isn't very desirable for your average human being. That's one of the main reasons why people drink and do drugs. It distorts reality for us because reality is too [cabbage]ty to deal with. Delusion isn't always a bad thing. Our race's happiness is founded on it. We're just bacteria of the earth each equipped with biological tricks called "egos" which delude us into thinking we're something more important than the germs we're stepping on, which is actually quite favorable when it comes to our race's survival. And that's where religion comes into play. I agree with all of that.
  5. I think a lot of this depends on how you see God, not all Christians see God in the same way, as the Bible and other sources are so conflicting as to God's nature. There is so much diversity... many 'believers' do not even believe in heaven and hell. Where as same take pretty much the whole bible metaphorically and others taking every single word literally. If (like many do) you believe God is all-knowing then that implies that free will cannot exist as God knows everything you are going to do in your life time and so you are bound to do it, it's going to happen..you have no choice. I think there is even a school of though that just accepts that God has decided upon our individual creation that only a small percent of humans will go to heaven, the rest hell, and they can do nothing about it. And for non believers I think free will still does not really exist as theoretically, if you could look into every chemical causing every emotion, and then everything that has happened to that person in their lifetime, then you could tell for a scientific fact what they are going to do, and therefore they have no choice. (I don't think there is any proof for this, but it seems perfectly logical to me) Personally I don't believe in any form of conscious God and believing in an all loving, all knowing and all powerful God in these days and time is completely illogical, as it completely falls apart under modern thinking, yet it will continue to exist as so many people have it so engrained in their mind that no logic can reach them. (in my opinion)
  6. People sitting near you that sniff every 10 seconds, arghhh. Haha i know I know a guy that will literally throw up if somebody does a 'flemmy' spit near him.
  7. Yeah but neither of those are really what I am saying at all... In talking about civilians dying, it is the war that kills civilians, and soldiers are part of the war. and "No soldiers can do anything heroic" - I never even came close to implying that... the discussion is about whether being a soldier amounts to being a hero, like so many people seem to suggest.
  8. Hmm Gross negligence mainly I would say, and countless counts of murder.
  9. But why is it a good thing to do something unquestionably? Why is it a good thing to fight for something you don't believe in? I personally think that if you do something wrong simply because you were ordered to, it does not justify that action. (Though when it comes down to it, most of us will do what we are told) I think right intent does not necessarily make your action good, even if most soldiers think they are doing a good thing then it does not justify it. The 9/11 terrorists believed they were doing a good thing, most serial killers do as well. (though I do not consider soldiers and serial killers to be on the same moral level). But I agree pulling out of Iraq now would be bad, I'm not suggesting that, and I do not consider soldiers to be bad people.. but I don't think after participating in a war like this they should be called heroes
  10. Well I think perhaps it is possible for soldiers to be heroes depending on their motive, if they truly believe they are dying to liberate Iraqis then that is fair enough, they are heroes. But I question the American government's motive for going to Iraq, as there are a lot of other oppressed countries, with terrible genocides happening etc... and I think it is the soldier's duty, as a member of the human race, to question why they are doing it, and I cannot see a good enough reason to fight and kill in Iraq, although of course some good has been done in toppling Saddam's regime I'm not sure it was worth the civilian deaths (60000 I believe is a conservative estimate from beginning to now?) and if it is an immoral cause I think the blame has to rest partly with the soldiers as well as the government. Thanks for your perspective by the way, very interesting to get a view from someone inside the military.
  11. I've been thinking lately, why do so many people treat soldiers like heroes? In my opinion the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan at the moment are not heroes at all, they are just simply doing their job. I say this because they are simply following orders and choosing to participate in a war like Iraq is, in my opinion, morally wrong. The soldiers in Iraq are killing so many civilians that I just cannot see a reason to treat them so well... personally I would rather die than go to Iraq to fight. However, unlike some I do not see them as common murderers either, they are just simply people doing their job, like a banker or a dustbin man.. People say "they risk their lives for you and your way of living" etc etc... yet by the same logic wouldn't people who take part in clinical drug trials be heroes to? They are risking their bodies for the advancement of science and medicine right? No. They're just doing it for the money. My view does not apply to soldiers of all wars, just mainly Iraq and Vietnam. (Probably Afghanistan too, but I don't know much about it) For example the soldiers of World War 1 and 2 are heroes to me, as there was a clear and present threat to their country so they went of defend it. I was just wandering what you guys think and if anybody agrees with me.
  12. Why not? Why must there be a reason for everything? (I personally believe that we are a product of random chance..) I think the most likely situation is that we just cease to exist, our consciousness disappears and we stop perceiving anything, although anything is possible you just can't tell.. Why do so many people believe in reincarnation? It seems to me like such a random thing to believe in.
  13. I got it today from Game pre-order, it's really good.
  14. Yay! England win the ashes \ Another great Ashes series :)
  15. Looking good for England to take the ashes :D Would not put it past them to completely mess it up though.
  16. LOL looks like we're going to lose by over an innings, so poor... And i agree we really need to get rid of Bopara, i thought at the end of last match that he shouldn't play for the rest of the series, then he goes and gives both his wickets away in 7 balls for 1 run. :wall:
  17. Hi, i like to play online poker but when i tried to open the file (pacific poker) about 15 minutes ago i got the message: "windows is searching for this program..." and then "to launch the application, please use the %sfile" I have no idea what this is, i tried resetting my computer, and then uninstalling and reinstalling the program. This is kind of a worry as i have $300 in my account and have no way of accessing without the program as far as i know, also i am scheduled to play in a tournament in 25 minutes which i have already payed the $22 buy-in for, and this will be wasted if i can't play soon... Does anyone know what it wrong and how to fix it? Thanks P.S it had been working fine about half an our before this started!
  18. Well that's pretty much game over for England unless there is some serious rain... 102 all out :wall:
  19. If anyone is debating whether to get The Lost and the Damned add-on, i would definately recommend it, i just copleted it and it was really, really good.

Yes. You have a 1/3 chance of getting it in the 1st place, and a 1/2 after the 1st door. However, once he asks, that changes everything (aka variable oods). If you say yes, ill change, you'll have a 66% chance of winnning. Cookies to who figure outs what thats from :XD: 21.
