  1. Props like tables, benches, etc. help with suspension of disbelief, which is a fundamental aspect of all fantasy settings. It's hard to find any credibility in a setting without at least some measure of realism, because it's hard to take it seriously without anything familiar we can relate to.
  2. The case was a load of trash on the home front. I can feel some sympathy for the family, but for crying out loud, vigils? A minute's silence!? The man isn't a bleedin' war hero, he's a damned stupid drug smuggler. Frankly, I don't care what people think about the "barbarity" of being hanged for the crime, because they take everything the media says at face value. He did NOTHING to deserve all that sympathy the idiots here were all too willing to give. The media and the government have blown this totally out of proportion, almost letting everyone forget that this man was convicted of a crime that, had he not been caught, had the potential to ruin the lives of thousands. The death penalty is a fair punishment for someone stupid enough to attempt what he did knowing that he WOULD get caught and that he WOULD be put to death for it. If he was any smarter, he would have smuggled those drugs into a country that at least wouldn't have the death penalty. To be completely honest, the man deserves a Darwin for the act. As for hanging being a barbaric punishment, get off your high horses. It isn't any less humane than sticking a needle into someone and pumping them full of poison, or frying them with a jolt of electricity. A death sentence is a death sentence. He died in a fairly short time, and that's more than some people can ask for. If it's any consolation for the "human rights" activists, at least he wasn't drawn and quartered. And on the upside, Singapore can reuse the rope for other idiots who are stupid enough to try smuggling drugs into the country.
  3. It makes sense. If you only train in a defensive style of combat, you get better at defending yourself. It makes a damn sight more sense than standing in one place swinging a big axe all day and becoming more attractive or intelligent for it.
  4. I thought some symbolism was in order. He IS a Holy Inquisitor, after all.
  5. Thanks for the comments guys. I drew it with the usual, a 0.5mm HB pencil. smudging isn't an issue anymore because I draw with a sheet of scrap paper under my hand. It's annoying to wash off pencil stains.
  6. Wehey! More sketchness! Heresy begets retribution, and the Amardian Inquisition LOVES retribution. My god I'm bad at drawing hands...
  7. It's pretty good composition. Shows you don't need a whole body shot to make a decent piece of art. The sparse shading actually works better than full shading would on this piece, oddly enough. (Woo, people love me!)
  8. Runescape people also tend to fight in melee and fire their bows while facing the enemy with their fronts. Anyone who's ever used a weapon in combat or fired a bow will know that you're less likely to injure yourself or fall over if you're doing it with one side leading - the bow hand (normally the left), the shield-arm, sword-hand if not using a shield, and the higher hand when using a two-handed weapon. You present a smaller profile and get better balance that way. Well, you can't trust JAGeX to know much about actual combat...
  9. Yes. Yes you may. Welcome to the cult, leave your sanity at the door.

    1. Yes. 2. No. 3. You mean your Defence level? 4. No.
  11. Actually, I only ever use a HB 0.5mm pencil. It does the job, and I tend to stab the picture a bit in Photoshop because my scanner screws with shades and gives everything a yucky bluish tint, so I desaturate it and give a good disciplinary slap to the contrast.
  12. Never hurts to keep a spare. Hur hur hur... [insert more jokes that would only be funny to those who have had their sense of humour surgically removed]
  13. Interesting sketchy feel to the artwork. If you had better subject matter, you've got a lot of potential to improve.
  14. I felt like doing something a little different to what I normally draw... And I loved it. I just HAD to draw something with that title.
  15. I STRONGLY suggest that you remove all that material and instead post the URL. You are breaching the OGL by quoting directly from the FRCS book and a number of modules the rights to which are owned by Wizards of the Coast. Also, give credit where credit is due and cite the name of the author and the original source of the material.
  16. I THINK I can do it. Extreme cases, though, will be dealt with using fire. If it's too poorly-written that I can't even get around the semantics to be able to proofread it, then it's beyond salvation.
  17. It was used for staff sparring. Sparring. Light, nonlethal combat practice. Think about it. It'd never be even on par with leather armour.
  18. Frankly I'm thankful enough that the overwhelming majority of Runescape players will never achieve a position of enough influence to contaminate the world with their... gifts.
  19. Besides all arguments already made against this, let me present a couple of other things... One, a new set of armour and weapons for assassins? What in the hell for? You've got black clothing, leather armour, daggers, darts, shortswords and crossbows. Your quintessential assassin, already in the game. You don't NEED a bloody skill to role-play an assassin. Two, ninjas? Why are ninjas always among the first things to be suggested when people make a thread about assassins or oriental culture in all its forms? Have you such a narrow field of thought?
  20. In some situations they were used together Only after Miyamoto Musashi passed down his niten ryu. Katana and wakizashi is a fair sort of dual-wielding technique, but is geared as most katana styles are towards quick offense against a lightly-armoured opponent. You wouldn't use it against someone in plate mail, because that's not what they were indoctrinated to fight against. Had the Japanese or other dual-wielding peoples been accustomed to fighting men in plate armour, they would have gone instead for blunt weapons or heavier, two-handed blades. The wakizashi was more of a ceremonial blade. Samurai slept with them. If dining or otherwise in the presence of a lord, however, the samurai would leave his wakizashi along with his katana at the door. Besides that, the wakizashi is carried everywhere. Hell, you commited sepukku with it. Firelord: You implied with your post that people were going to argue that you should be able to dual-wield bows. Try to come up with an argument against that. It's the bare truth. And you really should do something about your sig, because I'm just about the friendliest person you'll find to comment on it if you put me next to an irate mod who doesn't like the boards being stretched unnecessarily. Junkieman: You missed my whole point about suspension of disbelief. It is realistic to cast spells, fight monsters, use esoteric 'skills' and the lot, because they don't actually exist in the real world, hence they are as realistic as they can get in a fantasy setting. Things which DO exist in the real world, however, have to have the proper amount of attention to detail paid to them, because people CAN say things like, "Hang on, why does a mace deal slashing damage?" or "Hey, why is this trout stronger than a bloody great claymore?" Ergo, it's fine for JAGeX to mess around with things that don't actually exist, since it's a fantasy setting and they can invent what they like. Tampering with real-life things, however, is something that is Not Done by creators of said fantasy settings. Now, onto the shields again. No. Using two won't protect you any better than using one. Mobility is essential to shield use, unless you are in formation. Which you aren't. With two, your mobility is restricted in much the same way as using two blades - you can't co-ordinate your arms as easily, and as an added bonus, shields are bulky. And heavy. Using two, you'll more often than not end up banging them against each other trying to move them around to block or deflect, the latter of which is what you'd want to do most often unless you want to end up with a broken arm as well as a dented shield. Holding them still isn't an option since then you're leaving everything that isn't covered by a shield (which, if you're employing two for best effect, ie. facing your enemy front-on, is going to be quite a lot, such as everything above your chest and everything below your knees) open to something nasty, like a damn huge falchion. Using one shield with a weapon, you'll be presenting your enemy with a smaller profile since you're coming at him shield-first, which means you can move it to cover the ENTIRE side that you're presenting him with, while you hold your sword back. He tries to put a flick over and around your shield, you sweep up and to the right to force his sword-arm left while you either thrust under your shield arm with your sword or act like a good warrior and fight dirty, and push forward and ram your elbow - or better yet, your shield's edge - into his nose. With two shields, you have to move towards him facing him. Going in one side first like a sword/shield combatant makes your other shield useless, which defeats the purpose of using two to begin with. Going at him front presented, you're forced to lock your shields to cover your biggest target - your torso. That leaves your head and legs unable to be protected. Sure, you can carry two full-length toe-to-chin tower shields, but then you're walking around essentially blind to everything below neck level, and as soon as someone's smart enough to bull-rush you to the ground (which, believe me, is bloody easy if all you're showing him is a pair of wooden walls backed up by only so much muscle), you're dead. And as for "dumping on other peoples' ideas" and "sounding bitter", well, let me break it to you. This is a discussion board as well as a suggestion board. That doesn't mean that you blindly agree or contribute to every idea without any thought for why it should be implemented, and, in the case of real-life concepts like this, how it would even work in a hypothetical real-life setting. You don't just approve of things on this board because it "sounds cool". I have found that arguing against ideas gives everyone else on the board an opportunity to examine the concepts behind them, rather than, in their ignorance, blindly agreeing to everything. I am, in effect, helping the bloody discussion of the idea rather than letting it degenerate into "ya ok kewl jegex shud put dis in" and "omg it wud b kewl if u add dis..." or any other equivalent statements in varying degrees of linguistic and intellectual integrity.
  21. If I remember correctly, the English DID tear the dismounted French knights to pieces once they closed in melee, using falchions and dirks. Mainly because the French couldn't get out of the mud if their lives depended on it, which, funnily enough, they did. Oh, you mean this? Educated statement, huh? And a cynic? What does cynicism have to do with it? Do you even KNOW what that means? Anyway, I saw nothing wrong with the armour design on the original, except for the shape of the helm. Too narrow around the neck.
  22. You are so ridiculously wrong it isn't funny. First off, plate mail IS made of multiple plate sections, because a single solid piece of metal: a) Can't actually be worn unless it is forged ONTO the wearer; and B) Restricts movement to practically nil. Secondly, sectioned plate armour offers better protection than a single solid piece of metal because it creates open layers between overlapping sections that absorb shock from weapon impact. The only weak spots in plate mail are the joints and the spaces between plate sections, which are accessible only through upward strikes, which, for rather obvious reasons, are rarely if ever attempted. Before you denounce his art for not adhering to your ideas of equipment, at least make sure you actually know what you're talking about.
  23. You know, the general assumption was that dual-wielding would only be for single-handed melee weapons. Discounting the fact that it really wouldn't be any better than using just a single weapon, assuming that you would be able to dual-wield ranged weapons that require reloading is a statement of stupidity in and of itself. Oh, and fix your sig. You're stretching the board, in case you didn't already notice.
  24. The face. Oh gods, the face. I'm not sure if that's his cheekbone or his ear, but either way, it's in the wrong place. He still has no chin. His nose leaves a lot to be desired, namely a third dimension. Arm proportions are skewed, and the posture looks damn uncomfortable. And pardon me, but are those his pectoral and abdomenal muscles showing through his robes? If those, why not any other muscles? Why are they showing through the robe in the first place? I can't actually see all that much improvement in your technique here.
  25. I don't think anyone's actually had that problem with it. I thought it was pretty clear myself, and anything that was slightly obscured can be because of the fact that it's a charge, and dust gets kicked up. Still, one comment's better than none, I guess.
