Your ideal MMORPG/Internet Game.
Update: I've decided I need to get a story written for this. I was considering something apocalyptic, but I am rather unoptimistic; any input? I was considering having it all set during Ragnarok, where the Earth is gradually being destroyed, as are the gods; but I would love a bit more input-- what role should the character play in this? Remember it will be a multiplayer game, within time; so it can't really have an 'end'.

I decided against vampires, as that would require it to constantly be 'night time' meaning It'd be too much of a dark, dreary, hard to see kind of game.

If they're all raised equally, what would be the point of having more than one? :-s Ah, I guess you have a point. Well, perhaps I shall code it so some creatures are highly effected by certain styles, unlike Runescape where there doesn't seem to be much difference on damage dealt with different styles. I am still away from home, but regardless, I have been doing a lot of thinking. ;)

Your ideal MMORPG/Internet Game.
There won't be any work done on it for a little while, as I am preparing to go to a gig whilst at my girlfriend's house. All my tools are still at home. Please bare with me.

The tree isn't static with the ground. No matter what wall you go against, it basically pulls the entire map except for the tree. So when you walk up against a wall, it thinks you are moving further away from the tree, even though you are stuck on the wall. I have no idea how to fix this, I know nothing about flash. I know this isn't an official website or anything, but I think it would look better in the middle of the page for now. It seems odd looking on the right hand side of the screen. This isn't the map layout, at the moment. It's just a rough test of the ground + actionscript. I'm going to change the scrolling background codes to using VCAM instead, otherwise I will always have the tree error, unless I want to get into some very complicated math.

Quite a bit update that I've just done, it probably doesn't notice, but I've spent forever on it. It also has a preloader, and a viking fellow waving his almighty sword about a little bit. ;) .com/Unconscious/game.htm]http://h1.[forbidden site].com/Unconscious/game.htm EDIT: I know about the error with the tree moving up, once you hit the south wall. I'm not sure how to fix this, at the moment, but I shall try a few things out. Suggestions? Comments?

[bleep] YES !!!!!! :thumbsup: Heh, I was thinking about adding all the realms mentioned in the Sagas, or whatever; but I've run into enough complications as it is, so I'll leave that until it's all working properally. Actually, saying that. I lied, it's fully possible. I just don't really want to be drawing 20 different maps.

I do, yes. I'm going to develop it, first, as Runescape but single player, and then develop the multiplayer aspect into it from then on. This is only 24 hours of constant work, however. I wonder what I'd be able to manage with a weeks worth of time. ;)

Okay, well, the movement works; but now I've got a lot of issues with the trees. I have no idea how to do collision detection through nested movie clips... Anyone here know anything about actionscript?

^ Same, I don't need to look at the keyboard. Over the years, I kind of memorised the posistions of the keys. ;)

This is only a quick test with the actionscript, et cetera; but I'd quite like some more ideas too. The fire will eventually hurt the player, and you won't be able to walk 'through' the tree. What do you dislike about it? Why? what do you like, if anything? Why? Improvements? Suggestions? EDIT: Darn, I'm not allowed to link to SWF's... Is there anyway I can show it off, without getting in trouble?

when I say Ideal game, I meant feature-wise, not so much storywise. I'm getting the collision detection sorted, the player's cloak waves about while he walks, and his feet move rather well too. I want to get the coding sorted, and then I can work on the graphics a lot more. It's going to start off as a simple RPG, and then progress to a multiplayer RPG, and so on.

I've just fixed up an error with walking, so his feet actually move when he walks. I have yet to set up anything excessively interactive, but at least now, our little man can walk. Also, I will soon set it up, so he can 'pick' what race to be at the beggining.

Of course. ;) But let's wait until a bit more progress has been made, at the moment, it looks pretty poor, due to a few errors I've run into; eg, you can run over the top of trees. Heh. Need to fix the collision detection a bit. I wouldn't mind some help, if anyone is interested, at the moment, I only need someone to help share some of the graphic work.

Those are not MMORPG's. Those are strategy games. Most decent MMORPG's are coded in C++. Eitherway, I am unable to code in C++... Runescape was coded in Java, and it turned out fine. I've been doing a lot of work on this lately, I have the basis for it, and I'm working on the 'flat' world. I've gotta fix a few issues with the base character, mind you- he's walking a bit oddly. ;)

The graphics will be sprite based, so you can forget anything 3d. I have neither the time, nor the budget to make something so advanced, but I will look into it for future versions, but for now, all I'm worrying about is the first draft. The camera will have to be static, too. Think of it as the production of Runescape, you've all seen how that started, yes? Pretty poorly, and then it got better over the course of a few years. That is what I am going to do. That kind of attitude doesn't help anyone, does it?

No, they are supposed to be equal! Each race has its advantages and disadvantages! The vampires can't make things really...while the humans can. It's all about what style of game you want. They're supposed to be equal though, with their own advantages and disadvantages. But then, it's easier for Humans to become merchants, then Vampires.... I understand the point you're trying to make, but I can't really see it working- I'll start off with more simple, and similiar races, and go from there. Ok. Tell me how it is when you're done! I need to be able to plan it, and get ideas put towards it before I can even start. I'm around 5% ready planning wise. Well...what would you like to know? :wink: Well, what kind of interface do you think I should have? Kind of graphics? Should it be so you can see your whole player, or only the head? (Runescape, Or Pokemon, so to speak.)
