Part One: The KCHughes Interview by Book! 1st Q: When did you come to tip.it? 1st A: September 6, 2004 was when I joined. 2nd Q: How did the idea of Investigating WOM come to you? 2nd A: In January of 2006 I was getting awfully bored with Runescape, but I wanted to keep playing. I was just goofing around and I decided that I wanted to see if I could find out what the Wise Old Man was really up to, so I read the books he had (this was way before Swan's song, almost right after the bank robbery happened, so we didn't know a whole lot about him then). I thought that the book on Coordinate Geometry would have some clues, so I posted them on the forum and got a lot of help from members. 3rd Q: When do you think it became very popular? Instantly or did it take a while for people to get interested? 3rd A: It took awhile to get going, most of the people who posted were members responding to me requests for data or people wishing me luck. It was really a one-man show until about February of 2006 when it took off. I think because I was just gathering data at the beginning, people weren't as interested. But when I started putting the clues together and making theories, a lot of people jumped on 4th Q: How far have your investigations taken you? 4th A: Well, we started off with geometric coordinates that dead-ended when we couldn't take it any further. We realized that the Wise Old Man (I coined him WOM, as he is known in the thread ) was extremely powerful and disgruntled. Using logic and reasoning we came to the conclusion that WOM was dissatisfied with being a mortal and was trying to become a god the same way Zamorak did. We've been on this theory for a few months now, and we're thinking that it's the best one yet, and we haven't found anything to contradict it. 5th Q: Have you posted a topic about the WOM anywhere else like Sal's Realm, RC or Runevillage? 5th A: No, TIF is the only place I've posted anything. I've checked a lot of fansites and next to none of them have WOM investigation threads, I was surprised. The ones that do have them are really small and not as advanced as the one we have here. 6th Q: Do you feel that you will ever succeed in discovering what WOM is up to? If so, when do you think the investigation will end? 6th A: I think we will, all depending on how many clues Jagex gives us and when they continue the plot. We're almost 100% positive about what WOM's intentions are, but we don't know when we'll see his plans put in motion. I'd like to see the WOM storyline get resolved before the thread has its 2nd birthday. 7th Q: Is there any extra information about WOM and your investigation you'd like to tell us? 7th A: All I can say is that we feel like we're so close, we can smell the end. Part Two: The Economy: What it is and How it Works by Malo2! The economy is by far the most important part of runescape, everyone is affected by it, and everyone relies on it, whether you buy your fish for pking, or you buy logs for 99 fletching, or you merchant for a nice mask. The economy is everywhere, the only way to get away from it is to turn trade/compete and both chats off, and completely play your own game. Any economy in the world runs by the law of supply and demand, this law applies everywhere in any society on earth, from trading pokemon cards, to selling your Microsoft stocks, the law of supply and demand is common sense to everyone past elementary school. Well everybody knows about that, but how much do you know about the economy itself? What exactly makes a good economy, and how does a good economy run? In reality, the economy is not really an object or a system of any sort, it's more of an agreement between everyone in society on the exchange of goods. The whole reason for the idea of the economy is to describe how everybody in the society is receiving material goods or services. A good economy is when there's a rapid flow of goods, meaning that people are wealthier and have more things, which is the entire goal of us humans; happiness, best achieved through material goods. It's rather difficult to explain, in the real world, there are factories, and resource gathering plants working 24/7. The goods those plants make are bought by stores, who then sell them to us common people, who work for those stores and factories, to only make more goods that will come back to us. Humans are constantly digging up resouces and making items, this flow is never ending, so generally, we as humans get richer and richer, that's our ultimate goal. The economy measures the rate at which we get richer. Both the factories and the stores bring the people goods, the people work for the factories and stores to make the goods, and in exchange get money. The people then use the money to buy things from the same stores and factories they work at. Thus the stores and factories have more money, and then make more and more things, bringing more things to the people to buy. It's a never ending cycle, the more powerful the cycle is the richer humans are, this cycle is the economy. In the real world, politicians (at least the ones that don't sit around and do nothing) go bald trying to keep the economy running, and improving it. In runescape, Jagex can make the economy perfect with just a few keystrokes: ...give everyone 2.1 billion of every item, now wouldn't that be fun? Of course that would destroy the purpose of runescape, and there would be no longer a point in playing, I would quit in three days, just after i have a little fun getting some 99 stats. In runescape, Jagex makes a steady income of items, and lets us do the rest. The economy in runescape is a game, The economy in runescape is runescape. Everyone races to make the most money by making the right trades, and the winners can show off their expensive items or high stats. Of course Jagex doesn't make direct changes to the game the moment they see torags falling, or gold becoming too common, keeping the economy stable is our job, and predicting how it ill move is what we have to do to become richer. After all, we define the economy. In the future Jagex will continue to add more items and skills, making the economy ever more interesting and challenging, giving everyone new goals, and new ways to show off to their friends. The incredibly realistic economy is unique to runescape, it's something not many other games have, and something most games aren't nearly as good at. So now it's time for me to do my part, and sell those lobsters. Part Three: Blah by Firsttsurugi! Section 1: Word Of Advice: Don't listen to those [puncture]s (excuse the bad language) who say they can do stuff to your armor, gems, or ore/bars. I know most people know not to do this, but everyday, more noobs come in to runescape and fall for these tricks. Don't put homophobe into your name or people will follow you everywhere. I've never tested this, but my friend says that it would happen. Don't beg, or everyone will hate you. Section 2: You Know You're A Noob If... You know you're a noob if you use a newcomer map to get around. You know you're a noob if you beg. You know you're a noob if someone gives you free stuff for no reason. You know you're a noob if you think bronze can own dragon. You know you're a noob if you think bronze can own A dragon. Section 3: Mistakes Everyone makes mistakes. I've made the mistake of bringing my cousin into my clan. Sometimes, mistakes end up coming back to haunt you later on. So far, I'm the closest person in my clan to being banned, because me and my cousins keep arguing. This goes for Runescape as well. If you make the mistake of going against the rules, then you will most likely be banned. An example of this is a man named Chazz456. He hacked another man, Wolf God A. When i heard of this, i asked him what he did, and he said flat out that he hacked him. Then, me and my friend repeatedly reported him. He's probably banned now. Section 4: Easy Money Most people find ways to make easy money. I've heard of flax, the most common one. I've heard of Wine of Zamorak. My friend introduced me to a new way. I learned the art of White Berries. I cannot tell you how to get these berries, in good time, for i cannot let supply go up. What i'm getting at is that there are numerous ways for even the biggest noob to get huge money. Experiment with your options and you will find something that is actually successful. Oh, and pm me if you need White Berries, 1k each. It's amazing what the market will buy for what price, isn't it. Section 5: Real-World Trading Real-world trading is a problem. People are making real, green, pure money giving us fake runescape crap that we really don't need to benefit ourselves in real life. There are many sites made just for this purpose. Even Zezima's brother owns one of these sites. Real world trading is wrong and we shouldn't have to see it. It's time for these people guilty of these crimes to stop being so lazy to make a few clicks on a mouse and get these runescape items themselves instead of paying others to do it for them. Fun and Games by Dkw0101! Comics Part Five: Varrock's New Look by Ignite_168! This weekÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s update brings players both f2p and p2p a massive graphics overhaul for Varrock. From the shops to the shopkeepers, everything in MisthalinÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s capital looks so different that the city has become almost unrecognizable. Although some people think the update is a wasted effort, most are happy with the new and improved looks. The first thing youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll notice when you enter the city is its new grey-bricked and grey-roofed buildings. Green tinted windows have been placed on many windows and HorvikÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s armoury has gotten a much better look. Stores have also become much more detailed; just look at the cabinets in the sword store! Up for a story? Try reading a page from the Varrock Herald, or visit the old lady at the church. Although there is much more to see, this weekÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s biggest attraction is the newly redone museum. Boasting three distinct exhibits, the museum has finally become a repository of (most) Gielinorian knowledge. While viewing these spectacular exhibits, p2p players are able to help the museum and earn Kudos, a tracking system used by the museum in order to see how much each person has contributed. Before you explore, I highly suggest that you grab a map from the information booth and have a chat with the clerk ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ wouldnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t want you to get lost now, would we? On the ground floor (NA: first floor) youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll find the Dig Site exhibit, filled with the artefacts retrieved from the site east of Varrock. Those who have passed their Dig Site exams can help clean some artefacts. If you find something interesting you might be able to earn some Kudos or even learn how to enchant a new piece of jewellery. On the first and second floors (NA: second and third floors) are a series of objects that make the Timeline exhibit. Here youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll be able to learn about the events that have transpired throughout the history of Gielinor. If youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve completed some quests, talk to historian Midas to exchange your knowledge for Kudos. In the museumÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s basement is the Natural History exhibit which holds interactive models. By talking with the natural historians youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll be able to learn much about the birds and beasts that roam GielinorÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s surface. Answering the quizzes at each display will also earn you Kudos. In addition, the information clerk will grant you an amount of prayer, crafting, mining, and smithing experience depending on the number of artefacts you've contributed to the Dig Site exhibit; answering all the quizzes at the Natural History exhibit rewards you with slayer and hunting experience (5k xp each); while helping historian Midas will reward you with four experience lamps (three 1k xp and one 10k xp). The archaeologists will also teach you how to enchant ruby necklaces if you uncover one in the cleaning area. When enchanted, this necklace will grant the wearer five teleports to the area just north of the Dig Site. What can you do with the Kudos youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve earned? Well, archaeologists have recently discovered a new island north of Morytania and theyÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re expecting it to be of huge archaeological significance. All those who have earned enough Kudos will be invited to join in on the dig. Although the island is currently unavailable, we can expect it to be released in a future update. Here is an image of the barge being constructed for the expedition. You will be teleported here if you have the new Dig Site pendant (enchanted ruby necklace). Have fun learning about GielinorÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s history! Part Six: Unite by Unleasher10! They're everywhere. They have taken our ores, our logs, our gfs, and our feathers. They have ruined our community and our game. They are an army of robots, of monotonous entities running lines of script. Their goal: to make money for themselves, at the expense of others. They are macroers. If we ignore this problem, we will kill ourselves. They will suck the worth from every last raw material in this game and devalue our hard-earned levels into the ground and still hunger for more. We must work together as a community to rid ourselves from this problem, before it's too late. To this end, I have compiled this list of things YOU can do to help: 1. Report them. It is no longer neccesary to note down all their names and send them to Jagex, because Jagex has removed the 1-per-minute reporting restriction for macroing. I would still recommend noting down their names, though to make sure you don't report the same bit of macroing scum more than once. 2. Don't buy gold. Just don't. You might as well buy a pack of cigarettes. By buying RuneScape gold for real-world money, you are funding macroing. You are giving money to the very people who steal money from you by taking your logs, ores, etc. 3. Screw them up manually. The most satisfying of all. Here are a few ways to kill macroers: -Go to the Varrock rune shop. Buy a couple of body runes, twice as many earth runes, and three times as many water runes (for example, 10 body runes, 20 earth runes, and 30 water runes). It shouldn't cost too much. Switch off auto-retaliate. Now track down the Mugger lurking around there. Cast 'Confuse' on him once (requires level 3 magic) and walk to the rune shop. Once the mugger has come in behind you, either wait for the mugger to attack a low level or log out and back in. Either way, watch as the mugger attacks and maybe kills a low level who is most likely an autoer. -Buy some yew logs, around 28 (one inventory). It will cost around 7k. Now go to the yew trees south of Melzar's Maze, near Rimmington. Lay down yew logs one by one leading to the Hobgoblin Peninsula north-west of the yews. You don't have to use them all. Wait for the logs to become visible to the autoers. Once they do, the autoers will start to pick them up, following the trail of logs. Follow the autoers to the peninsula, where they'll get a good jacking. Feast on the wonderful yew logs they drop. -Only use this if you have level 74 magic and you're a member. Get 1 soul, 1 law and 1 earth rune. You can substitute the earth rune for a water one if you're level 82 or higher magic. Now go to a place crowded with autoers, such as the willows in Draynor Village. Cast teleother Lumbridge or teleother Falador on the autoers. Some autoers will have Accept Aid off, but most will have it on. Part Seven: The Bronze by Chr!stopher! ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâæOh pain, I was lying on the ground. Once the rain came I would be rusted away. So young, so inexperienced with life. Yet I had to loose anything I had. I gave up the hope for life. I gave it up as I couldnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t do anything. Suddenly a staff hit meÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ I wondered why people didnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t care about those who would be dying by the rain. Rain didnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t come however and suddenly I felt a hand. ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅWhat a nice study swordÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
