RuneScape Information

  1. I'm not in any of the above catagories. I'm an old-school RSer. I've watched as trends changed and always stuck to the same play, because I know where Jagex is coming from, and I think I know where they're headed. Jagex is trying to make gameplay fair for everyone. There was a time when the only people who made money were those who already had a high combat level. They attacked anyone dumb enough to be caught using a skill, and took their items. So Jagex made PKing an option (instead of mandatory), and eventually made the Wilderness. Then there was the invasion of the bots. Auto-miners were banned by the thousands, and people's mains just kept getting richer. So Jagex made random events. (Thank Guthix they stopped using sleeping bags!) People have always run scams. It used to be so easy you could just switch items at the last second before someone accepted your trade. That's why you have to double-check your trades now. The creation of the GE was so that players wouldn't get scammed by not knowing the current market price. Now you can read it on the GE itself. Jagex will continue changing the gameplay in an effort to make sure that even the youngest players can get rich, instead of just the older players that understand economics. Because that is what Jagex does. It's a cheap game (as monthly fees go), and it's made cheap so young ones can play. The only question is: how long do you want to play? If you want to keep playing for a long time, you do everything the game has to offer. You don't go in with the intent to win, or score higher than everyone else, because if you do, you take it personally when Jagex levels the playing field. If you're intent in the game is to experience it all equally, have fun, and make friends, you don't mind when the rules are changed. That's how I've always played, and that's why I'm still here after all these years. I don't have high levels, or lots of gold, or all my quests done. But every time I play, I sign off happier and more relaxed than I was when I signed on. Every time.
  2. I thought this article was well written, and I agree with it one hundred percent. If you will permit an old-timer a little reminiscence, I'd like to add to it a little. The reason "people regard [RSC] as having a more vibrant wilderness [than RS2]" is that most of the people who prefer RSC over RS2 were around during a wilderness makeover, so to speak. First, there was no wilderness, and everyone could be killed at any time. Then, new players started complaining about the mass newb slaughters in Lumbridge, and everyone had to choose whether his/her character was a PKer or not. But that wasn't as cool as the combat areas in other MMORPGs, so the wilderness was created. There wasn't much of a wilderness at the time, and it's original purpose was to allow a killing space that new players wouldn't mind missing out on. At the time this was going on, new players were almost as important as the old ones, because the community was so small. As you can see, the wilderness is no longer just for PKing, and newbs are no longer quite so important. (1 million players!) Jagex created the wilderness and continues to change it solely to keep up with the demands of the RS community. The RSC community liked what they were used to, and when RS2 came out it was only natural for them to prefer to keep the old community and the old way of doing things. It was a different game then, and I miss it in some ways. On the other hand, the current RS wildy is rather awe-inspiring. I think Jagex is doing well in striking the balance betweeen emergent gameplay and imposing restrictions, especially in the wilderness. After all, they hear just as many complaints from players who took 100K into level 33 wilderness as they do from players who want to be allowed to outwit everyone else.
  3. Combat - 62 RSN - Sir__Robert (mind you, that's 2 spaces) Current Skills: Healer - 3 Def - 2 Att - 1 Coll - 1 I am trying to get points in all skills for armor, and I am surprisingly good for someone with low combat. I will of course be willing to switch to healer at later waves, if needed.
  4. The table for the bedroom hotspots is incorrect. You can't "build" an oak decoration. It just comes with the curtains and does not show the family crest. I found out because I tried to remove the decoration, and accidentally lost the curtains. :? [pokemama 21 feb 2007: Fixed, sorry about that ;)]
  5. I feel a little old reading this thread. I've been playing since the spring of 2001, practically the start of RS. I was in high school then, and I only got my own computer this year, so I never really had the chance to level up. Most of my friends list is made up of people that are long gone, and I only play sporadically. Same deal coming on Tip.It, of course. I've been using the site since RSClassic, and it's really come a long way. Anyone who wishes should feel free to pm me, with the understanding that I don't sign on regularly and may not get the message for a while. I will definitely pm back when I get the chance. Any of you oldies out there, please let me know you exist. I would love to hang with some players that don't call me a noob just because I have low levels or don't know what the deal with all the new stuff is.
  6. Pet Fish 1. Fishbowl must be filled with water and in inventory before Harry will speak to you about pet fish. 2. He will then tell you to add seaweed to the bowl before he will sell the tiny net (10 gp), but he will give you the fish food box for free at this point. 3. You can't choose the color of the fish. If you want a different color, you will need a new fishbowl with water and seaweed. I spent a few minutes trying to figure out why he wouldn't sell me the net before it occurred to me to put water in the darn bowl. :wall: pokemama edit 21 feb 2007: an Elder spent some very vexing time in game with the same problem (couldn't buy the fish) ... our guide needs to be updated.
