Two Headed Serpent
http://www.flickr.com/photos/karljohnston/3461382431/ Went for a 30 k hike into the woods this past day and took a few shots. A loon passed over the stream about 6 feet from me and skippered over the water by its feet. I was too stunned to take a shot. The land is beautiful...oh so damn beautiful. I took this shot with an 11-16 tokina 2.8 and a 5D mark II on a 190CX3 manfrotto/+486 RC2 ballhead. Bit of a rough job working with the tripod; I'm thinking of getting an Really Right Stuff tripod because I hear rave reviews about them and how stable they are.

I don't look that young do I??? It was loaned from a friend I was shooting with who works with National Geographic My gear is Canon 50D, 5Dm2 with associating lenses; 70-200 2.8L and 16-35 2.8L II :) No need for super telephotos for what I do.. though if I were to need a super telephoto then my first selection would either be the 300-800 5.6 or the 400 2.8L; depending on what I was goin' for. And yes just for clarification that would be my own $$$.

Jeez, how much did that cost? At the time the lens was about 14 000$, the nikon d300 was 2500$ and the d3 with the 70-200 2.8 VR is about 8000$ US http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-300-800mm-U ... B0009JKH78 It dropped a bit, and I think the d300 is about 1-1500 $ now, the d3 is teetering on 3-4 000$ and the 70-200 is still rocking and rolling about 2500$

worst pain ever inflicted on you
To be absolutely honest the reason I didn't go in for dislocating my jaw was I didn't realize it was dislocated for the first 3 weeks and when I started experiencing "lock-jaw" or "tense mandibular joint" I made an appointment within a week and it took 3 weeks to see one. Lol

And im sorry but i do not understand what this is on about. It's the worst pain ever inflicted on me, what else would it be about?

SamWILD - Portfolio ReDesign
I think it's pretty decent. Two things, though; take down the "sillysamowild" (that is, if that's not a watermark symbol) and the "Oh hey there>:D" header; they're not really necessary and take away from me taking the portfolio seriously. Try to only put up text in two different fonts for consistency, anymore and its overkill and distracting. Maybe fade the background a bit and make it less "busy" and more neutrally organized..otherwise it's pretty decent. If I pay reformat the bio a bit I'd write it more like this; My name is Sam Wild, I'm 13 and live in Glastonbury, England. I've always been artistic and I've always enjoyed producing art since early 2009. I divulge myself in many different types of digital art such as; digital photography, photo-manipulation, vector-art, graphic/web design and I try to find a way to incorporate a part of each medium into each of my works. I hope that since you now know a bit about me, you will check out my portfolio. Feel free to check me out on these other following websites, too: (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr) Reason for this generally is to keep it clear, concise and to the point .. this is me, this is what I do, this is how you can contact me, if you like this you can do this...etc so if a potential client or someone who's interested in seeing who you are and what you can do knows where they can see what you do and how to reach you without having to wonder about all the strange little people in glastonbury, england ;)

worst pain ever inflicted on you
Probably the second worst pain of my life...first was 3 years of recovery from an accidental diagnosis of requiring prozak. I went into the doc's when I was 17 complaining of sleeplessness and feeling out of energy and sluggish all the time. Being the dipstick I was I had no idea what fluxotentine (prozak) was and started taking it for 2 months. Upon finding out what it really was I stopped taking it cold turkey. Bad. Idea. I went to another doctor and he hit the roof, saying I should find the other doctor and sue..but I had no idea where he went or could even remember his name. He explained to me a bit of what happened when you came off of an SSRI (half life is 6 months minimum) when you didn't have an SSRI disorder. 3 years of withdrawl effects ..Took me 4 months when the withdrawl symptoms started. I had panic attacks so badly I couldn't even leave my room, seriously, for four MONTHS. It was a step into madness and one of the biggest, most scariest rollercoasters of my life that I will never repeat. I don't even take advil anymore and avoid going to the doctor's at all costs...hell I dislocated my jaw for 2 months (partially) before I finally went in and instead of going to surgery I went the route of 6000$ orthodontic surgery instead. One accidental misdiagnosis cost me 3 years of my life I'll never have back. I lost all faith in the medical system after that.

Do you like to read?
I re-read that a few weeks ago, and it's probably the funniest book I've ever read. It's not often that books are laugh out loud funny but still cutting and relevent satire. Silly Orr with his apples in his cheeks and chesnuts in his hands. I found catch 22 the most god awful boringest book I've ever read..I just couldn't get into the book. Perhaps the manner of writing is just too far removed from what I'm used to reading. I haven't read many classics, I find them difficult to grasp. Though I am a huge fan of William Shakesphere (Absolutely got drunk as a kid reading over romeo and juliet). Otherwise... I've read a lot. When I was 12 I won a competition for reading and writing about (to prove I read) the most novels in a month (94). I've been able to speed read since I learned to read. I recommend authors more than I recommend books. In particular a really good author is John Grisham; anything by him is genius. Especially recommend The King of Torts. I once read through the series of The Wheel of Time but couldn't afford to get any of the new books and I could never find the right editions. I'm re-reading the series starting from book one and it has me on the first chapter.

Aurora Borealis Photographs
I just saw that forum, lol, I posted up a topic in there as well as my information in the photographer II thread. I don't use or support Deviantart...I'm also anti-walmart, lol. Deviantart...let's just say they really really really rip the artist off in terms of print sales and I don't like how commercial their operation is. To me, that's not what art should be about...though there are some great artists on there.

As the Aurora Awakens
I was pointed by a friendly tif'er to this section since I made my mark in the offtopic forum with my aurora photography. Here's a couple of shots that I wanted to share from January of 2009: Add me on flickr.com if you have a website there. Sorry I don't use or support deviantart; they really really really rip off the artists in their print-merchant system.

Aurora Borealis Photographs
I'm glad they're well received:D  I see these every night, it's a wonder that people don't go out and watch them more but here its like "Oh auroras...cool" -.- I've seen these things for a decade, every night, and every night they stun me. I'm hoping that one of them will get shown in Telegraph UK this week; they're doing a feature on auroras in the Arctic Circle. I'm frequently on http://www.spaceweather.com where I have a couple shots on their aurora gallery...lots of interesting astrophotography and astronomy information if you're all interested in learning more.
