My dad used to do this SORT team, kind of like a SWAT team except for the federal prison he works at. He dressed in all his gear one day, helmet, bulletproof vest, gloves, boots... The neighbor guys were running around with airsoft guns and my dad ran out with a gun, one guy nearly wet himself.

I've been watching CNN and it's all been on Japan and Libya, mostly Japan. But here I go defending my country, oh no. I know I'm not as informed on world news as I should be. I'm 17, I just need to establish habits and gain an interest. I know plenty of adults who don't have an interest for knowing what's going on in the world around them, but I also see people like my government teacher, who would use class time to make sure everyone was informed and make us discuss what the news means, or my mom, who watched the news on the nuclear plants for hours last night and looked up nuclear facilities in the US out of plain interest in curiosity. This thread is filled with generalizations and people arguing when the OP asked if America is a greedy country. I think people are taking the high standard of living and highly vocal citizens to be signs of greed and ignorance. If I'll say one "patriotic" statement, it'll be that the US is filled with 300+ million individuals. You could say they're all greedy, but maybe that's part of the culture of the "American dream", where you want the next generation of your family to be better off than yours. The government could be labeled as greedy, but... Yeah there's a lot of nasty debt and I'm 17, which GENERALLY younger people are more liberal and I fit in there so I won't elaborate on the greedy politicians or the sketchy dealings between the government and oil company executives or anything. Basically I'm saying there's nothing to say the whole country is greedy or not. For the people who have said people don't open doors for each other anymore and other such things, I'd say cultural shift. Young people are stupid. We just have to grow up. Even when people do grow up, they make mistakes, and people who do bad things seem to get more attention here than those who do good. There's no angle to look at this discussion from to get a solid answer. Unless you believe what someone just said on CNN about how Japanese people aren't looting because they love their country and do best for it, while Americans love their country and do what's best for themselves.

Although I'm currently not playing RS and haven't been an active player in a couple years, I can contribute to this discussion. I am female, and my character has always been female. When I started playing, I caught on and took advantage of the free stuff I'd get for being a female. I'd just take whatever anyone wanted to give me and then ignore them if they wanted to talk to me more. After my combat increased, though, I more received compliments than help. Plus, I'm F2P, so players admired whatever expensive gear I donned. Really, it didn't bother me being a girl in a guy-filled virtual world. Out of my real-life friends I knew more girls who played than guys. Yes, guys did randomly talk to me simply because I'm a girl, but I never cared. And I didn't read this whole thread but whatever the discussion is with two girls going into the bathroom together, I fit into the group of girls who partake in that ritual. I don't know why, since it's sometimes awkward talking through stall doors and whatnot, but it's just what we do.

I'm gonna find some sort of sick satisfaction in being right in the end. Except I'll say that now and then feel bad when she's miserable. Because I always do. But maybe not this time. I feel right.

I just want to go tell my friend's parents to tell her to go live with her boyfriend's family. Just take back her car and whatever else they've given her and send her off. She is acting like a spoiled brat, getting mad because her parents aren't giving her what she wants and her boyfriend's family apparently is. Don't you think it'd hurt your family's feelings if you wrote on Facebook where they could see that you feel like you're more of a part of your 17 year old boyfriend of two months' family? Seriously, they're being reasonable. And they need and appreciate her. She just needs to look in the right places. What an ego she has.
