  1. Hehe thanks. Not all of the design were for threadless, a couple of em were for Shirtfight, some Teefury stuff, some schoolwork and some commisioned pieces. I haven't won anything at threadless since the viking design got printed. But then again I only submitted one design after that one :P 2 shirts got printed at Teefury. Didn't make a whole lot of money off of that, but hey, prints are prints right? I don't really make a whole lot of money from this on a monthly basis, mainly because I haven't been all that active in competitions and stuff lately. Been preoccupied with school. But a threadless win equals 2000 dollars, which I won twice. Teefury brought me about 100 bucks per design, it all depends on how well your design sells. Pop-culture things seem to sell like crazy there. Recently someone got about 1300 bucks for his design. Thats 1300 shirts sold. Thats pretty sweet. Yeah this really was the place I kinda grew into the digital art thing. I still come here from time to time, guess I just stuck around. And mrshiny, too cute for threadless? Haha, does that even exist? xD Thanks for the comments everyone.
  2. Character design is fun, but it's a whole lot more than just drawing a character right off the bat. If you want to make a cool character, think about it first. You could start with his story, what does he do, whats his purpose, what kinda world does he live. What are his basic recognizable features. Even though these will probably be very specific features, there's a whole array of possibilities within those specific features. Like say you want him to have winged boots. You can just draw winged boots right away, or you could go sketch and think how you can draw those shoes in various ways. Again, don't just go with your first instinct, explore. Experiment. Also, look around you. If you have some very clear idea's on what kinda 'feel' your character should show, go browse around for direct inspiration. Look for little bits, like hey this is a good way to make wings, or hey this little bit of jewelery could form the basis of my armour. So you got your description of your character, then you could start the sketching. Sketch the guy you described. Again, don't just go with your first thought, but try many different things. Combine the stuff you use as inspiration, don't just redraw it directly, use it as a guide of sorts. Make variations. Eventually you should end up with something you really like, AND is logical and well thought out. That's good character design.
  3. The running dude reminds me of Ampelkopf by Ptoing. But otherwise, looks pretty good. On the game mockup, maybe get rid of the black lines in the background. It creates a priority conflict. If you keep the black lines strictly to the moving things, like the giraffe and banana, attention of the player will be fixated on that. Which is the idea, right?
  4. I don't think you fully grasp the idea of how much work a game is, let alone an mmorpg. Switching from a single player rpg to a mmorpg isn't just something you decide to do and edit a few minor things and you're done, it will most likely require rewriting a whole lot of the code that makes up your game. Multiplayer mechanics work very different from single player mechanics. If you wanna do it right anyways. You could just make the other guys appear on everyones screen and you're done, but what fun is that? To make it multiplayer you need interaction, and well-developed interaction at that. If you're really interesting in making games, then just jump in yourself first. Start building. Start thinking. Try flash, try gamemaker, try whatever else is out there. I'm no expert, but just saying hey let's make an mmorpg, without even knowing what it takes to make one, is just not going to work.
  5. Oh man I totally remember you. I was pretty much a noob back then. I remember people like Keiphus and GSW starting the 3d trend back then, with those really really basic battleaxes and stuff. I thought it was so awesome because all I could do was pile filters and brushes :") Oh man great memories. My name was Uncoverd back then, but you probably won't remember me. This forum pretty much started my interest for digital art off as well, and it's turning into a nice carreer at this very moment.
  6. Hey guys, Some new stuff from me, did a month-poster for some local place I do stuff for. They host concerts and events and things you know. They're awesome. But yeah, I made this months poster, and flyer. I also did the previous few, but those are not interesting enough to show. Poster: Flyer, front and back. Yeah there's some sloppy stuff, but it was pretty much a rushjob.
  7. Yeehaw! :D Go buy it folks :D Can't wait to get this in my mail.
  8. I did some more work on my Noise Pollution design, my personal favourite. Oh, by the way, the old version (on the right) is getting printed at Teefury in early March, or possibly somewhere in February if any spots open up. New <--> Old Why did I rework this? You'll see in a little while. ;)
  9. Check it out guys, my second print has arrived :D http://www.threadless.com/product/1650/Farewell_Midgard
  10. Adobe After effects is great for finishing the whole thing, also great 3d support and stuff.
  11. Yeah but the thing is, my bag filled with free time is kinda empty. I can sometimes squeeze a little bit out of it, but I'd like to spend that on my own things you know.
  12. Uhhh, can I refuse? xD Last day to vote today! Oh, on another note, my Viking shirt is going up for sale today! :D
  13. Hehehe not only the Gallery here man xD I know my design isn't one of the best. There are better ones out there that aren't in the top20. There are also some other designs in the 20 final ones now that I don't think belong there. But they did what I did. Get votes. From everyone xD Chances are small, because now the voting is narrowed down to 20, instead of 331. All the regulars at threadless will vote for whatever they think is best. Which is most likely the Judith + Holofernes one. The panda one is also a good contestant, because not only is it a good shirt, the two guys who designed it have a huge following, and know how to get votes. So yeah, I'm not counting on it, but I'm still doing my best to get as many votes as I can. Who knows. Thanks for voting everyone!
  14. [bleep] YEAH SEAKING!!!!!!! I'M IN THE TOP 20!! My design is now up against 19 other design for the grand prize of $20,000!!! So now it's time to vote again, even more important that previously! Seriously, I'd really appreciate if you could go and vote for my design. To vote, go here: http://www.threadless.com/bt And vote for my iceberg design! Thanks so much! It's a long shot, but hey, it's worth the shot.
  15. Thanks alot all of you :D If anybody else wants to help me out, the voting closes on monday.
  16. Alright guys, it's voting time again! This time, it's the Threadless Bestee Awards. The yearly award show on threadless. The design the public can vote for is "Design of the year". Which has a nice prize of $20,000 attached to it. So, I figured even though I had a really small chance, why not give it my best shot. If you want to help me, follow the following instructions: You need a threadless account. If you don't have one, register one, it's easy. If you have an account, go to this link: http://www.threadless.com/bt#november Scroll down a bit, and you'll see my 'Icebergs just wanna have fun' design. That one. Underneath it is a button, "Vote for this design". Click it. :D THANKS! Btw, if you happen to know any people who would take their time to vote for me, be sure to ask em! Cheers :D
  17. Here's what I do for halftones in Illustrator: Get a shade of gray, or a black/gray to white gradient. Draw the shape you want the halftones in. Rasterize the shape at 300dpi. Apply the colour halftone filter. Expand appearence of the object. (Object>expand appearence, something like that). Then use the live trace to get em back to vector. Put ignore white on. Most of the other stuff you can just leave as they are. Object>Expand. Ungroup two or three times(as many times as you can), and add all the shapes together using 'add' in the pathfinder, so it's all one object. Give it the colour you need.
  18. You can't save as png in Illustrator? Who ever told you that? Use Save for web and devices. Png right there. Also, image getting cut off has something to do with artboard/image size. If you're using cs4, with nothing selected, click the document settings button in the top bar. Adjust the artboard size there to your liking. In cs3, I think it's in the File>Document setup. Change the image size. That should fix it. Also, I have no idea what the thing is you drew xD Perhaps if I see the full image.
  19. Haha yeah that'd be nuts indeed. Nah they're halftones, done by a little trick. What it comes down to is making gray shapes in the parts you want the halftones, rasterize, colour halftone filter, and live trace, to get em as vector. Size of the dots varies by what numbers you use in the filter, and density of the dots depends on the gray tone used. Thanks guys :D I subbed it, let's hope for a good score.
  20. Thanks  Finished? Any more thoughts on this before I submit it?
