  1. Objectively, I would agree with you, triquos. I don't care much for rares (I don't spend that much time lounging around or in any capacity to be wearing a rare anyway). To me, rares are merely serve as an alternative currency. However, since the topic is alive again here, I don't see the harm in discussing/debating possible solutions*. * I say solutions because of the quote seen in the OP regarding Jagex's original intentions for the items. Please, don't try to argue that there isn't a problem, as I think this topic is approaching the problem that Jagex perceives, not that the community as a whole sees.
  2. 1. You can't take items out of an economy and expect people to use your presented alternative. That approach never works. 2. That isn't a bad idea. 3. No. Numbers 1 and 3 are effectively intertwined, and go off of the already stated idea that Jagex intended for holiday items to be fun, and not the economical disasters that they are today. I have to agree with the OP (and many before him, I'm sure) that the only way to return to that idea is to make all current tradeable rares nontradeable, and acquirable from Diego. To prevent mass riots, the current tradeable items would, under my suggestions, retain their entire street value, albeit in an unwearable form. Do you really think that the people who are hoarding Santa's (or other wearable rares) are doing so because they want to physically show off their wealth? Seeing as you can only wear one at a time, I doubt it. Now, sure, maybe they like the look and wear one of them to show off some of their wealth. By transforming all current tradeable rares into tradeable "card" versions of themselves, you allow for everyone who wants to have one of these fun items to have one and wear it if they desire, without removing the high street value and wealth that players have been amassing over the years. Sure, those with phats and masks and santas wouldn't be able to dangle them in front of those not quite as well off as themselves, but that was never the original intent of the items anyway, and so should not be a reason to keep wearable versions from being available to the masses, IMHO.
  3. Mmmm, year old necromancy. Love it! nachalo Well, since the topic is up here, I'll throw my idea into the mix. The point was brought up that much of the value in the current rare market is hoarding wealth. Since there is a GP limit, players often store further value in the form of items. So, why not turn all current tradeable rares into stackable "Trading Cards", which act just like any other item, with a fluctuating market value, only they have no aesthetic value. You can't show them off (beyond, of course, opening a trade window with people and throwing up hundreds of Blue P'hat Cards just to show off), but they retain their value as extra wealth. They could have very low shop values, so that you can't just take them and sell them for instant GP (to prevent flooding the market with currency). With that said, it would be a great opportunity for Jagex to introduce additional currency in the form of stackable notes, each with a set value (say, 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k, 1m) which have a set market and shop value, and can be "sold" to/"bought" from a bank for the equivalent value in GP, so that you can take your wealth above the 1.2B limit that way as well. I'd bet my bottom dollar that I've been playing RS for a lot longer than a lot of the TIF community. I was around for ALL the holiday drops (though I foolishly gave all but a single Santa away when I left the game), I was there when the Disc of Returning had a purpose, blahblahnostalgiablahblah. I took an extended break up until last year, and so missed out on most of the untradeable holiday items. And honestly? I don't care. Now that we have Diango, I don't think I have any of my untradeable holiday items physically on my account right now. I just don't wear them, nor have any desire to unless I have some explicit reason to. But I recognize that some people do want them to wear around, as they enjoy wearing them. I don't think they should exist as symbols of how long you've been playing (personally, this is another thing I could care less about. If Jagex added a feature to perhaps the adventurer's log that displayed when your account was created, I wouldn't object). TL;DR version: -Take all current tradeable rares and turn them into stackable "trading cards" with a dynamic market price, but very low shop value. Monetarily, they would serve the same purpose as rares do now, without causing an instant flooding of the market with GP. Essentially, what was once wearable, no longer is, but it retains all other value. -Optionally, create a new series of stackable items that are tradeable, and have a static market and shop value, to act as a way to store excess wealth -Create duplicates of all current tradeable rares, as untradeable items that can be retrieved from Diango or other methods as mentioned in the OP konets
  4. I'd say try looking at it from a role-playing perspective and thinking of which alignment/personality your character would best fit into (so that you don't have to compromise your own ideals, even if it would be for the sake of the game), but then you'd probably just tell me that your character, much like yourself, would never bow down to the man, man.
  5. If they had taken Corp. Beast, GWD bosses, DKs, Barrows, and any and all other bosses, and moved them into Daemonheim, OR moved them into floored dungeons similar to Daemonheim, and required a Dung. level and team to access them anymore, I would agree with you. Dungeoneering is a skill, albeit much different than the other skills*, and as such, does not have to be completed. Sure, there is content associated with it that you will miss out on if you don't level it, but then, you can't get/use the Inferno Adze if you don't raise your FM level. Similarly, you can't use Extremes/Overloads if you can't afford/can't be bothered to train herblore up that high. As long as they don't restrict current content, or limit most future content, to Dungeoneering specific zones, I can't see the negatives. If you don't enjoy it, no worries, no one is forcing it down your throat (unless, of course, they make the majority of future content require it). If you do, more power to you. As far as the raiding aspect and its potential for failure, I would have to disagree. As I mentioned before, look at Runescape's player base. How many of them have played WoW (I use WoW only because it is one of today's most successful MMO's), and experienced that style of grouping, where each class plays a role, and certain roles are required? I'll admit, in RS, hybridism is rampant, especially amongst the higher tiers of players. Everyone can do everything, or at least, has the potential to do everything, from one single character. I, personally, like the fact that there is an area of RS where teamwork is required, and more than just "pile on boss, keep yourself alive, (and maybe even) if the boss targets you, run around and kite it until it switches targets". Sure, it's different, but that's why it's in its own area, I think. The core of RuneScape remains unchanged, but for those who fancy some coordinated effort, Dungeoneering has the potential (although right now, admittedly, it is still rushable without any particular "class balance") to offer that to those who seek it. Also, you'll forgive me, I hope, for being confused--you criticize them for having a simplistic approach, but go on to think they are making (or are working towards making) it too complicated? Like I said, I am confused, and would merely like clarification here, rather than trying to call you out on waffling or some such. *To clarify my stance, as your Dungeoneering skill level rises, the content you can access increases. As your (insert typical skill here) level increases, the content you can access increases. In Mobilising Armies, your rank increases, but the content (barring outfits and a few select items) you can access doesn't.
  6. 1. If your sarcasm was intended to be lighthearted, then it was lost over the internet. If it was the bit about catching up to generic korean rpgs, then sorry, my point remains: you are trolling (see footnote) 2. It is hard to be unique in the MMORPG world today. I'd say RS still has a fairly unique identity. Name a korean RPG. Go ahead, name one. Heck, name ten. Go onto any mainstream MMORPG board and post those names. Will anyone recognize them? No. Try it with RS. Granted, the responses may be mostly negative, but people *know* RS. 3. Face it, RS *is* simplistic (by comparison to class-based MMOs). Everyone has access to the same skillset, and gear. Therefore, within a dungeon, it is reasonable to assume that roles must be defined by the players, and use their own skills accordingly. As resources on each floor are limited, it is wise then to break it down into simple jobs, and delegate resources accordingly. "You mage, you range, you wear armor and shield and have lots of food, and you use big hammer" 4. Dungeoneering is a huge first step for Jagex into *real* team-based activities in RS. Not just minigames, but in terms of content that can be advanced through. Don't think of it as Jagex copying another MMO's instance system, rather, it is Jagex's first venture into the realm of raiding (which, at the basic level, is far from unique in *any* MMO today) 5. We have yet to see Batch 2, or any future Dung. releases. I'm reserving judgment until then (although, personally, I enjoy it plenty already). Also, I'd like to throw out "It's not about the destination, but the journey" (paraphrased, but you'll get the message I hope). Keep in mind that many of the people who play RS are nowhere near as experienced in the MMORPG field as some of us. For them, merely experiencing Daemonheim, having a place in RS to *really* group up with their friends and test their mettle against scaling enemies and challenges, is a very welcome addition.
  7. Give it a few days, and I assure you, there will be a self-addressed letter of apology in your mailbox from Andrew himself. No, really! He is, I'm sure, very sorry that he and his staff forgot that you were the only player who read the KB. How silly of them, to include information in a Knowledge Base (which, dare I say, is a database of knowledge, be it common or less-so)! Surely, there have been no new players to the RPG scene, much less MMORPGs, who may not be so fluent in gaming lingo as yourself. At what point does it stop being "expressing ones opinion" and simply become "trolling", Lib? Come on now.
  8. I'll give you the same advice I was given when I asked the same question a few days ago, cc: dungsmith the guys in there are friendly and helpful, and helped me get my prom. spear (and p++) very quickly
  9. Most likely...no other way to explain the sudden demand for that rubbish. god...sad merch clans Why is it sad? There is a very small niche for the scarves (Namely, anyone who wants one to wear just to wear it/because they like how it looks). You sold it for its street value. Whoever is merching the scarves ATM has had NO effect on you, you got your fair price for it, and, seeing as how you are not trying to buy another one now, I can't see why you would complain. well i guess if i were him i'd complain because if i waited i could have sold it for 1.7m more than i did. but that's just me  Heh, if that's the case, then he shouldn't be complaining about merch clans at all, seeing as how they were responsible for the price rise in the first place, and, if they didn't exist, he wouldn't have been able to sell it for +1.7m anyway  he's saying how he sold it for 1.3m before it hit the 1.7mil bump. The reason he's complaining is because if it's merch clans, he hates it because he didn't sell it for the 3mil. No, I understand that. But he can't blame the merch clans for when he chose to sell his scarf. Sure, he might kick himself for not waiting a few more days, but that's his own fault. No one told him to sell it when he did, he just decided to sell it for what was (I assume) the generally accepted fair-market value, so the merch clans raising the price didn't harm him in any way. There's no reliable way to know when any item will undergo a price spike (or crash), and so, as long as your decision was not made under any duress, you alone are responsible for selling your item. It could experience a natural or manipulated rise, and of course, in retrospect, we all wish we'd done things differently. I wish I'd kept all my countless holiday drops that I'd picked up when they littered the ground years back, rather than handing them out to friends/giving them away when I thought I was quitting for good (who knew they'd be so valuable now?). In a more appicable scenario, I wish I'd sold my last santa for 60m instead of 50m. But you don't see me complaining. I found the price I listed my santa for to be reasonable, and, as such, I sold it. By its very nature as a rare, of course it was going to rise, but I got a fair price for it and even though I would love to get a refund of sorts, and get that 10m difference back, I can't, c'est la vie.

  12. Aye, they were quick to help, and very amicable! Took us 2 floors to find any prome. ores, but with 4 of us going at it, it took what seemed like no time at all. Big thanks to Coffee, Fucher, and SordLady (just in case anyone here recognizes the names, heh)
  13. I had no idea such a channel even existed! Haha, most excellent. Thanks for the tip
  14. I just hit 90 attack yesterday, and would like to get my hands on a fancy new Prome. Spear. I would also love to get that spear poisoned (P++, though I can do P+ myself if need be). Right now, it's about 9am for me, and I'll be at work until about 1pm, though I'll likely be on in that time (very loose definition of "job", here. heh). If anyone would be willing to help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it. Reply on here, or if you see me online in game. FWIW, my dung. level is 41. In-game name: "Lizzenkov" Thanks in advance (and sorry if this should be in Marketplace, I wasn't sure)
  15. Everyone who is dismissing his ancients method since it is not very cost-effective, is missing the point. He did not say it was better, simply that it is an alternative method, which can spice up Barrows runs. He suggested it to add variety.
  16. ah okay, just thought I'd at least let you know about the oldest one heh. Sorry I can't be of more help, I don't have any pics of those dragons you're looking for =/
  17. ^yay for war, the wannabe mod. didnt even conbtribute to the discussion, simply puffed up his chest and chided people. Back on topic again, I'm thinking (hoping, maybe?) that they will release mini-quests for each pouch, in which you have to do some small task relating to the pouch, and you can only do them after a certain summoning level. Like say at Lv10, you are alerted that you can talk to the "Master Summoner" in Taverly, and he/she tells you that he has discovered how to summon, let's say... a raven. He asks you to bring him some wool, a bird's egg, and a few runes, and when you return, he takes them, makes a pouch, and enchants it for you. that's my idea, anyway, although it'll all be cleared up next week (hopefully) **edit: To expand, maybe the trainer will sell the most basic pouches to you, but you have to go on these mini-quests for the cooler/stronger summons
  18. #3 might be a scorpian, think of the tail
  19. The first time I saw a skull, I was quickly laid to rest. I then walked the 5 feet from lumbridge castle respawn to the general store, and asked the guy why he did that to me! (this was wayyyy back, when you could toggle pk status, around the time that addy was the best armor available). Good times.. I remember cussing out that rude player "Highwayman" on some road because he wouldnt stop attacking me... wow... my noob days were awesome. But back on topic, I wanted to change my emblem from kandarin to a Skull just the other day, but couldnt figure out how, for the life of me. Fortunately one of my clanmates suggested the Abyss, and it worked like a charm. on my walk from fally tele-spot to the herald, I had about 20 people ask me how I got skulled. 'twas interesting indeed.
