  1. First of all, http://www.broadband.org/usage_calculator.html is a useful link that might help you answer my question. All I really want to know is whether I'd end up exceeding the monthly 40gb download limit with the following:

Total hours surfing the net per week: gonna say ~56 to be safe (most of this will be runescape/youtube/facebook)

    Emails: Barely any

Music/films downloaded per month: None, I stream everything.

Videos watched per week: Not sure if this would include youtube, if not, perhaps ~10 hours per week, if so, more like 30 hours per week.

Online radio per week: None but I do use spotify for perhaps 35 hours per week.

Hours gaming per week: ~40 but that's runescape so i don't know how much less bandwidth that would use than the typical game the calculator is considering.

Extra: I might look through 500-1000 pictures per week on facebook.

Also, my brother is very similar but with more hours gaming and less streaming vids/music. He also uses a program similar to ventrillo for perhaps 50 hours per week, does that use alot of bandwidth?

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm being lazy and not using the calculator myself, I have done but I'm just not sure of a few main things:

How much bandwidth runescape uses compared to typical online games

    How much bandwidth youtube/spotify use

How much bandwidth programs like ventrillo/teamspeak use

Sorry for the long and perhaps slightly confusing post, thanks in advance :)

  2. This update ruined my goal completely. I got 95 prayer, extremes, 99 summoning and was going for chaotic maul to wreak havoc on players in castle wars. Now you can use overloads and armor that takes literally years (5 years for best armor?) to get and has best offensive bonus over any armor in the game.

I got about 2k tickets playing castle wars fairly regularly over the course of a year, it wouldn't be hard to get the three items required for the 25% bonus in around 9 months without totally nolifing it. Castle wars gets boring if you're only there to pk people anyway.

Personally, I'm not happy with how the new armours look. I loved the look of the gold dec armour and now it just looks like something from dungeoneering - ugly. The balisade(sp?) things are quite funny but not massively useful and I definitely do like the new highscores system but apparently it's been made so that the flag no longer returns to it's standard if dropped on the stepping stones or if the tunnel is collapsed on it which takes a large tactical element out of the game.

I voted do not like, they'd have done much better to ask people who play regularly for their opinions and work from there.

  3. Thanks guys, especially for that link piesofdoom, it turns out one of my friends has experience setting up phpBB forums so hopefully we shouldn't have too much trouble. At the moment we're potentially looking at having it hosted by a friend's brother who has his own forum hosting website (though it looks like it'll be fluxBB rather than phpBB). Does anyone have any experience with fluxBB (is it any good etc) and what would the benefits of hosting the forum on our own server rather than on a third party website be?

  4. Basically, I want to set up a forum for my university climbing club. I was wondering how difficult it was to do this to do as well as how hard it is to maintain. At the moment I'm thinking of using phpBB3 because it's free and I quite like the layout but if anyone has any other recommendations I'd be happy to hear them. We currently have a website so would I simply just have to copy and paste the source code to it or is it more complicated than that? I've no experience of running a forum/website but I learn quite quickly and am fairly good when it comes to computers.

ANY advice you can offer would be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.

  5. Before quitting I was level 137 and I regularly got crashed while killing different monsters whether it be while slaying or at GWD. Obviously most of the people crashing me were lower levels (because most people are lower than 137) so I wouldn't say people crash because they're higher levels. Personally I dislike crashing people if I can help it, I always try a few worlds before crashing people despite the fact that with maxxed stats and gear I'm unlikely to be second best, however I think you just have to accept that runescape is just a game and if you can't take a bit of competitiion then perhaps you should go and train your farming skill. If nothing else, maybe being forced to leave due to a higher level crasher will inspire you to train harder and max out :)

  6. Ok, basically I've disabled my graphics card and now my laptop is apparently fully functioning again, i.e. it doesn't bluescreen on startup and is running outside of safe mode and playing videos and music fine. I'm fairly happy with this situation, however, what will happen if I try to do something that my onboard GPU doesn't support (like accidentally try and play a game) will it just say I need a better graphics card or will it cause any damage to my laptop.

Finally, thanks alot to PSY145, not being able to listen to music/watch videos for the past few weeks has been so frustrating!

  7. On my device manager there's options to either disable the device or uninstall the driver. If it is a problem with the graphics card then will either of these allow my computer start outside of safe mode without bluescreening or would i have to manually remove the graphics card?

Also, my laptop is out of it's warranty so sadly that's not an option :(

  8. I currently own a fujitsu siemens amilo xi 2428 with an nvidia geforce 8600M GS graphics card. Recently my computer has started bluescreening either during startup or just after I log in. Basically I get loads of random lines across my screen and it then all goes black and I get a bluescreen message citing a problem with nvlddmkm.sys. I've tried downloading the latest drivers and even rolling back my driver but I still get the same problem.

I'm thinking that if I get a new graphics card then this problem should hopefully go away, am I correct to assume this? If so, what graphics card should I get? I don't play games (not even runescape anymore) so all I want it to be capable of doing is playing videos and music so the cheaper the card the better.

Finally, how hard is it to replace the graphics card? I've never changed any hardware around on a computer before so should I leave it to a professional?

    Thanks in advance :)

  9. Thank you, I will put the dagger away in that case!

As you'll probably pull it out again for specs when you get a scimi or whip, dont forget that you dont get exp for poison damage - so it's best to use a clean dagger when your leveling, not ddp++.

    ;>

    - Gid

Depends what you're training on, if you're training slayer or on a monster whose drops you're collecting (which I highly advise), DDS is better because of quicker kills and therefore faster cash.

    On-topic, Scimitar > Longsword > Dagger.

  10. Everyone has their own opinion. Some people will prefer f2p and others will prefer p2p. People that start writing down percentages of players and why they are either f2p or p2p are idiots, you don't know why others play the game so don't pretend you do.

In response to the creator of this thread, I personally don't think what Jagex is doing is wrong, f2p runescape is a game in itself and so it is fair for Jagex to market it that way.

  11. My advice would be to train your defence via slayer, this will help you earn enough cash to buy the gear you desire. Once you reach around 85 defence you can start doing armadyl trips (I would suggest 4+ man team though). Beware though, it can take a very long time to get drops at armadyl, so it's not the best boss if you don't have much cash (I'm guessing you don't). Furthermore, coinshare is far better than lootshare when you don't have much cash, bear this in mind :)

  12. Personally I would suggest you burst rock lobsters until you have the charms for at least 88 summoning. You may not want to train summoning now but I can almost guarantee that sometime in the future you'll want charms and regret not bursting rock lobsters instead. As for your question regarding whether you should use magic enhancing prayer/potions, I would personally say it's not really worth it. The potions will barely boost your magic level and each dose only lasts about 4 minutes so you'd need to take loads of potions with you which would reduce your inventory space for prayer potions and therefore significantly reduce the amount of time you could last before banking. As for prayer, it will help slightly but at the expense of shorter trips so it's up to you whether you want to use it or not.

If you do decide to burst rock lobsters, I believe there's a guide in the AOW which should explain everything you need to know. Good luck :)

  13. I went around 750 kc (bout 15 2-3 hour trio trips) without a drop at arma. Never had a dark bow after 1k+ beasts. Idc too bad about dry streaks tho, I once met a guy who'd missed 13 sigils at corp LS and never had one of his own, he didnt even use his lsp on anything other than corp either :/

  14. No offence but your stats are too low for most bosses. You could however kill the the giant mole, the KBD or bandos with a very large team. Best place to find teams is in the pvm forum on the runescape official forums; take a look there to see the requirements for most boss hunts.

  15. Basically, I haven't farmed in ages and I don't know what is best to farm atm (83 farming). I plan to use the herbs I farm to train herblore (currently lvl 79) so if you could take that into consideration I'd be grateful. Also, what is the average number of herbs I can expect per seed at this level? Thanks in advance.

  16. Due to their popularity, I would think I could sell them at max regardless of the GE's median price, even if it might take awhile.

Thanks, I'l wait for some more advice.

If that was truly the case then everyone would sell their claws at max price and they'd be significantly more expensive than they are now :P

Not everyone has the patience to sell their items at max, including me :P

But people like me also buy things for max all the time, so Draconic is kind of right.

If you try to sell your item for max price whilst that item is falling in price, no-one will pay top dollar for your item and the ge limits will fall leaving your sell offer above the new max price for that item. It depends whether the item is rising or falling in value as to whether you can sell it at max or not (sounds obvious but you two seem to have not realised it :P).

  17. Build oak larders. You only need 70 construction to build a gilded altar as you can combine drinking a sip of tea (made inside your house) with the crystal saw (from a quest I forgot the name of). Good luck training :)

  18. Due to their popularity, I would think I could sell them at max regardless of the GE's median price, even if it might take awhile.
