Parenting
I think single parenting is rarely preferable - it's basically statistical fact that children do better when having two parents. However, it isn't always feasible (like in the situation you mentioned).

Ahh ok, I get it. Yeah, you should write separate if statements instead of if and elseif. To elaborate: Your statement where you change the label text will work, but that variable won't have a value since if you have the member checkbox checked the variable won't be set.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
I believe you mean African American Friday. I really, really hate political correctness in regards to race. It adds so many barriers. If you really want people in general to move past what color people are, then stop making so many [bleep]ing distinctions. Why not emphasize WE as HUMANITY vs. we as all these highly individualized and even more highly redundant and moronic classification systems of melanin levels.
