  1. Arch, while liberals may be preachy (to the extreme in certain cases) at least in america conservatives are hardly any better (especially with a disappearing middle ground). Our brand of conservatives (the G.O.P.) being one of those special parties that build quite a bit of their domestic policy around the [wagon] (gay marriage, don't ask don't tell, etc.).

Also, lei here's a link that you might find helpful.

    http://www.livejournal.com/

  2. Has anyone here got/looked into Wargame: European Escalation? I'm very tempted to buy it on Steam (even though it has an extra DRM) simply because it looks like a breath of fresh air (and a nice compromise between games like starcraft and grand strategy games) and I would kind of like to know other people's experiences.

  3. [bleep] the UK (In Vicky II), is it normal for them to declare war on you randomly (I just finished beating them back [read; keeping my european cores and occupying most of SA and a bit of India] for the second time)? On the plus side, I now have some pretty bad ass brigades (and the UK is missing quite a bit of their uber fleet).

  4. How does your grading system work? 5 is an A+?

The usual 4.0= An A (any type of A) in a regular class, however in certain classes (AP & honors to be specific) you get an extra grade point to show the extra difficulty of the class (So the maximum number of grade points you can get from a so called weighted class is 5). You then take the total number of grade points your earned and then divide them by the number of classes you took to get your Grade Point Average (or GPA) . How does your grading system work?

  5. Hah, I just got my final results (the reason why I was gone for the last week or two was that finals week was happening) and my GPA for this semester looks like it's a 4.714, if I can keep this up next semester (which shouldn't be *that* difficult after AP tests and the SAT) I will have a 4.171 average for when I apply to colleges senior year (which might just be enough to get me into UC Berkley or the Claremont college system). Oh and how is the dungeoneering going (how are the new players reacting to the tavern?).

  6. Hmm, I have an idea, they will most likely be looking for me and me only (hopefully) so you lot will not be detained (most likely); ideally I would cast invisibility and then fly, and then flee on foot before having a roundez-vous with you people. To that purpose I will use locate object to find the hip again (and return to the ship under cover of invisibility). That would be the easiest way (assuming that they aren't using scrying to follow me, if they are that complicates things (and necessitates some more scrolls)).

  7. I just realized I had protection from good on my spell list too, never though that I would need that spell (or at least that I would quite possible be using it on party members).

EDIT: Oh that, we firebombed the wizards store with ~10 flasks of alchemist's fire, only one of them hit which was put out by the wizard; the rest of the flasks missed and we may or may not have hit a couple of civilians (and other buildings, twas carpet bombing).

  8. Wyvern can send you a transcript, all that I can remember about the female sorcerer (if that's what you're talking about) is that she specializes in conjuration. If it occurred after we broke into the crypt I wouldn't know though, I was without internet for that time period.

EDIT: Oh and you really don't want me to be the one to deal with the paladins, as I would appear on their evildar (whee LE alignment) though I may be able to talk my way out of the situation if the need arises. (Hell, one of my traits might prove useful, power of suggestion and all that)

Corrupting Touch (Sp): At 1st level, you can cause a creature to become shaken as a melee touch attack.

This effect persists for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your sorcerer level (minimum 1).

Creatures shaken by this ability radiate an aura of evil, as if they were an evil outsider (see detect evil).

Multiple touches do not stack, but they do add to the duration.

You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Infernal Resistances (Ex): At 3rd level, you gain resist fire 5 and a +2 bonus on saving throws made against poison.

At 9th level, your resistance to fire increases to 10 and your bonus on poison saving throws increases to +4.

    Bloodline Arcana:

Whenever you cast a spell of the charm subschool, increase the spell's DC by +2.

  9. I would assume that we don't get to spend the money we have before the first session, correct?

On a semi related note, we now have a party made up of:

what ever the hell icu makes (icu)

A warforged fighter who takes the "kill 'em all let the gods sort them out" approach (ross)

    A winter witch (retech)

A summoner (nex, if he ever gets back)

An infernal sorcerer who acts the part (grim)

A gnomish ninja (arch, I think)

    A thief (mask)

Yep, there's no way we're not going to get some sort of group of paladins/adventurers following us after a few more islands, trying to track down the bastards who burnt down their town.

  10. Merry Christmas to all, and I apologize for dropping off the radar for a bit. My family had switched over to comcast (or xfinity as they are now called) broadband for a month or two, and for the first two weeks the internet was down (it should be noted that we have switched back to local dsl) and so I couldn't participate in the games. I apologize for not coming back, I had fallen out of the habit and most all of my classes were giving inordinate amount of homework (especially journalism, that class should be honors) I just didn't have the time (especially when coupled with SAT prep). To get back on topic, I have slightly more time (at least on the weekends) I may be able to participate more fully. I may post a couple more things that I had worked on (and promised) depending upon if I can find them on my laptop.

On a completely different note, if you're looking for a cheap and fun game on steam, I suggest Killing floor, a (possibly) multiplayer zombie survival game by tripwire interactive; Its also 75% off on steam so there's that.

  11. My apologies to all involved with the rotating GMs idea, due to extenuating circumstances (read; soccer tournament) I won't be able to be on to run the game over the weekend (the only free time I have that works for all parties) and would like to postpone it yet another week, again I apologize. If you are still interested, contact me for information about how to get ahold of the books for DFRPG.

  12. Pretty much free all the times you specified. I would like to request Sunday Evening as my first choice though (Its considerably better for me, though obviously Ross and Grim will probably have a problem, given they usually disappear before 6pm, your time)

Monday/Friday would be my second choice, as I am free on both occassions, and have nothing else on those days...Mondays are favourable, but not by much.

Saturday I can do, but would prefer not to as it would effectively mean I would need to do everything for Monday 3 days in advance(aka on Friday)...and I don't do foreplanning particularly well =P

For reference, mainly for Ross, 8 pm CST is 2 am GMT.

Sunday is honestly preferable for me, I can make it (I just have to do my homework in advance), the other days (more specifically timeslots) would be problematic for me.

  13. Hmm. I keep thinking up games, but I think I keep making them too complex. Gruh. Although I was considering doing something along the lines of an sc2 game... Anyone interested? I'd be basing it off the dungeoneering plate.

Sounds interesting. I dont' know much about the SC2 universe, but I'm all for it. :)

EDIT: It would appear we all have some ideas, but no one has written anything up yet. lol

If I could make a suggestion, don't spend the time and effort making your own system (unless you really *really* want to), rather it would be a decent idea to either strip down a wargame to manageable levels (if you're controlling multiple entities) or simply finding a system that works for you (iirc GURPS has a starcraft splatbook, though I can't comment on how good it is).

  14. Yeah, I really don't see the need for us having the "tell us your god damned tiny problems" thread that the back room has devolved into. Either get rid of it, or make it into a game discussion thread and have all of the live journal esque posts deleted (seriously, almost no one gives a [bleep] about your current "problems", you might want to talk to an actual psychologist). And lei:

    www.livejournal.com

Oh and @Mather, congratulations, by now you are quite a bit more annoying than hex was, if not from quality, then from the god damned quantity of shit you post/complain about.

  15. wat

    How's life?

Earth, wouldn't that entail something more along the lines of british WWII procedures (which would probably be slightly easier to get a hold of). What sort of project are you doing anyways?

  16. You seem to forget one thing, I actually understand hand-to-hand combat because guess what? I'm a karate blue-belt. There's no human reflex that says to lift your knee if something is hurled towards your face, our reflex for that is to hide behind our arms.

Also unless I'm standing less than half a meter away from the target with my legs spread, the knee wouldn't hit anything, and at that distance the move is impossible (because you can't pull them down) and an uppercut would be the obvious choice of attack.

And no, those guys wouldn't beat anyone, they're pretending to know what they're doing, but their combat style is the one used for reverse David vs. Goliath scenes, you know where the small guy is jumping around, showing off before he's instantly and unceremoniously knocked out by a fist to the face.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlW0_r_japA

Starts at :22, runs several minutes of 'why you're wrong.'

Blue belt doesn't mean shit. Martial arts is impractical and probably puts you at a disadvantage until you've reached mastery. Except maybe something like Krav Maga.

I'd add Silat (one of those special martial arts that encourages groin shots) to that list as well as possibly muay thai, and track and field (otherwise known as the art of running the [bleep] away).

  17. Ok. In pure metagame (because, unless the boat sinks or explodes or something, you should see it...and to bypass the 'There is a note on your bed 'OMG ITS AN EXPLOSIVE RUNE FROM PHSYCO ARCHI' ') I have left Caliber, Martel, Kazi and Cathern notes in their rooms.

The information is not overly secretive, its more of an 'If I die, here is what is going on, thus far'...Also saves from group conversations that I am against on principle.

I have no problem with you reading it whenever. (I have no specific problem with Retech or Resistance reading it, but my character doesn't consider them part of the crew, and Kiara has been informed during the course of my activities)

Wyvern has the details so it is ultimately up to him...just removing the burden of remembering trivia from his extensive list of responsibilites...Please don't annoy him by going 'I look into my room, what do I see.'

I understand why you did that (I think the events of certain people proved that point correct) and accept it (though this will ensure some extra paranoia), though I think it would have been a bad idea not to bring the god damned diplomancer (that reminds me, if someone fails the willsave for charm person, will they know that I tried to enspell them?) to a social situation.
